Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Lately everywhere I turn there has been sadness, sickness, diseases, death, horribly desperate situations. I can't find a happy place anymore. On here we have had heart ache after heart ache. On my Cystic Fibrosis forums we are having death after death of even small children. On Facebook I have friends who have lost their children to heart disease, brain cancer, and lung disease. All the rescue groups I belong to are posting picture after picture of beautiful dogs that have been abused, who…

As you may know our resident humorist and blogger, Laurie of Fudge and Vern fame, recently had the idea that she was somehow the new incarnation of E B White. Now she has had many good ideas but this wasn't one of them. I think it was a brainstorm with some electrical static.
E B White wrote for the New Yorker, wrote a few wonderful children's books, and was one of the authors of a book on English usage. Does this sound like Laurie? I hear a resounding no in the…

his week I decided to forego a humorous post and instead ask you a question on a more serious subject: Should a natural disaster occur in your hometown, when it comes to your beloved pet (of any species) “are you prepared?”…
As Hurricane / Tropical Storm Isaac reeked havoc across the state of New Orleans Wednesday, sending the worst of its howling wind and days of unending heavy rain, I worried about a family I’ve known all my life. They relocated there almost two decades…

Since we moved into our home 2 years ago, there has been a BIG pit of sand in our yard. The previous owners had an above ground pool that we asked them to remove. For some reason I thought there would be fresh, green grass below it. haha
Since two years ago, I've been constantly asking my husband to 1. dig up the sand, 2. lay fertilizer, 3. lay…

Winnie the Pooh Winston is turning six years old. Yippee!
He is my sweet cuddly Pooh Bear and after almost a year of being together I don't know how I ever survived without him. His "adoptaversary" is coming up on September 18th! We have been through a lot together over the…

Who needs a babysitter when I have these 2 to help me out?!? I'm thinking of hiring out Seamus and Stella's services for a modest fee. Seamus has also mastered the art of giving foot baths.....if you look closely at the second picture, you'll see him hard at work on Patrick's toes. …

My yoga studio, Uptown Yoga, recently posted a version of the below Winnie the Pooh sketch on Facebook:
The drawing and message greatly reminded me of our goldendoodle, and I am certain many of you with a dog can relate. Each morning when Milton wakes up, he is thoroughly pleased to be here again. He walks out of his crate, resplendent with bed head, and completely excited to begin the day. Milt is never in a sour, grumpy mood…

We adopted a new Goldendoodle puppy named Bella. I found her advertised on line for rehoming. The owner was moving and they were only permitted one pet in their new residence. Since they already had a 4 year old Goldendoodle, they needed to rehome their 15 week old Goldendoodle. I couldn't believe my good fortune. After losing our Goldendoodle, Champ, after almost 17 years, our home was so empty and lonely. After several e-mail communications with Bella's owner, we made arrangements to…

Last night a long line of thunder storms set off by an approaching cold front passed over us. As they were approaching Haley started getting upset so I got the Canine Calm and applied it to his beard, ears and chest. This works good until the thunder is real close and he will just lay down beside me. The thunder got real close and Haley tried to climb in my lap (all 60+ pounds of him). He wouldn't stay still so I asked DH if he would sit on the floor with Haley. That didn't work. I got a…

Dog shaming is a witty, new trend I just found out about (I'm always a little out of the loop - a late adopter, you might say). The basic concept is to "shame your pet," in a comical fashion, after he or she has committed unacceptable behavior by human standards, of course. The below creative examples are taken from either www.pawnation.com or Google Images:…

Penelope the Kitty, as many of you know, has been an indoor cat since I first adopted her and I know she spent a very long time in the SPCA before that so I don't know if she's ever been outside on her own. I once got brave enough to let her outside and as soon as she was on the back deck I don't know which one of us panicked more, but she ran back inside before I could blink (Phew! what was I thinking??), and that was that. Penelope is simply an sweet, innocent, indoor…

As I sit here and read more and more about all the poor Doodles that are going through various types of medical issues, one thing keeps coming to mind...MONEY! I honestly can say that one of the best things I have done for Gracie Doodle was to get Pet Insurance. I only wish I had done it when she was a puppy but I was not yet a member of DK and was not up to speed on this type of thing. I always sort of assumed I would have a very healthy dog and any of the regular stuff I could pay for.…

Last Sunday started off like any ordinary Sunday. My husband watched his favorite morning show, CBS Sunday Morning, and I tried to refrain from talking and breathing too loudly for fear he would miss one word of the show. At one point, he was holding Fudge and cuddling with her and when she jumped down to greet me, Vern immediately took her place in his lap on his recliner chair.…

Growing up, my dog never fetched. He dashed, grabbed, and ran. He did not want to share his toy or ball with anyone. When this occurs, your game of fetch is dead before it even begins. Learning from my dog's poor example, we have been hard at work teaching the Milt to fetch. Our goldendoodle has an abundance of energy, so we need the game to last for longer than just a few rounds.
In the fetch training, Jeff originally took charge and declared Milton's tennis balls strictly…

What does your doodle do when they are most excited or happy?
Zoe does a happy dance. It's a cross between a dance and a skip with a beat. left, left...right, right...left, left... right, right...all while skipping towards you. She also has her mouth open with her tongue slightly out...looks like she's smiling =)
Bender yaps! it's like a bark but a "YAP YAP YAP"! It's kind of annoying but he can't help it! haha
He also leaps. Leaps from the second or…

OMD, I’m not the boss! I no longer call the shots! I’ve been replaced…
I had great intentions for Saturday morning – well at least I thought I did. I’d suggested a month ago that we go to the WAGS N’ WHISKERS pet exhibit. I love carefree – laid back – outdoor “pet friendly” activities – and this one had several vendors I wanted to visit (including our friends at OTPR), but these plans were…

Last week we had a little...biscuit incident...with our lovable 13-week doodle Copernicus. I swear I just set the bag down for a microsecond while grabbing his leash, and suddenly half the biscuits were gone. What a naughty dood.
Of course, he almost managed to convince me of his innocence with those big brown eyes.
Later, when I sat down for a sketching session, I whipped up a little print to commemorate the event. It now hangs in my office and reminds me…

Some days the Milt likes to join me at the pool. Are dogs allowed in the pool? That's a loaded question. During apartment office hours, no, definitely not. After apartment office hours, well it's a toss up.
The Milt is still…

Jackson was stung by the bee at 7:30 am this morning and he had a major allergic reaction. Within 20 minutes his nose was 3x the original size, eye swollen shut, fever up and trouble breathing. We rushed him to emergency room and he was treated and released by 3pm. Quiet a scare and now I will always be so terrified of bees. If I wasnt home he may of died Terribly scary situation. So Grateful for the incredible team that took care of my puppy today at Laguna Hills Hospital.…
