Oliver is now 14 weeks old! Just did my weekly weighing of him: He now weighs 27.8 lbs. which is an increase of 3.4 lbs. since last week! There's a doodle equation that is pretty accurate in terms of how big a puppy will be as an adult that I can't wait to use when Oliver is 4 months old (only 2 more weeks!). As it is right now, if he only gains 2 more pounds over the next 2 weeks, he should be 60-70 lbs. as an adult. But at the rate he's growing, I haven't seen a <3 lb. increase each week…

Lucy is such a funny puppy! She got fixed a few days ago and she hasn't been feeling great so we let her sleep with us in our bed for the past few nights. As soon as we put her on our bed, she immmediately goes under the covers to our feet and stays there until morning. She also loves to go underneath our bed (which requires her to basically crawl on her tummy because there isn't much room under there). She also likes to sit in our open dresser drawers and the laundry basket . I guess they just…

Lucy is 6 months old. She weighs 21 pounds. The vet says she will probably gain another 2 or 3 pounds. We have decided that Lucy is really a barn dog in a designer coat. We have 3 fenced in acres here in Florida. She is free to run, dig holes, chase squirrels, follow my husband to the barn, and, of course, stick her nose into anything that is happening. She is hoping for a chance to steal, chew, dig, eat, or jump into the smallest puddle of water. Our yard looks like a war zone. Critters are…

Wow. How easy it is to fall in love!
We knew we loved her the moment we found her but my goodness..after one week with her, she completely has our hearts!
It's interesting to look back at the labradoodle puppy we picked up 9 days ago and compare it to the one we have now! She is a completely different doodle. All shyness has disappeared.. and cheeky abby (often dubbed Darth Abby) has taken over! She'll eat anything except her toys (I honestly think she has learnt she gets more of a…

Well, Oliver has gained a wopping 4.4 lbs. since last week. He is getting SOOOOO big!
His new thing over the past few days has been drinking out of the toilet :\ Obviously I'm not too happy about this. As soon as he hears me coming to get him out of the bathroom he very slowly pulls his head out of the toilet and stares at me like, "What? Want a drink too?" LOL Ugh! Down the toilet seats go for all eternity! Well, hopefully not for ALL eternity!
So, Oliver is completely…

A letter to Finn:Dear Finn,
This is such a special time for us, as we celebrate your arrival a year ago, come Thursday.
Do you remember leaving Grandma - and all you knew at Avonlee? Do you remember the noisy plane and the horrible car ride from the airport to your home? We could barely contain our excitement - whilst you could barely hide your fear - and turned each time we looked at you!
Once home, we eased you out of your crate and you stood… Continue

I shared this with the therapy group, but I had to add it here too because it was just too cute:
One of Rosco's library kids (8-9 y.o.?) was so cute this week. At the end of her session she asks me
"have you heard of the Blueridge [local elementary school]cheerleaders?" She proceeds to tell me that she is one of them and apparently they are having some kind of show coming up and that
"anybody can come!" She tells me several times
"anybody can come." And finally…

It's the epidsode where Cesar goes to the Women's Prison where he helps the 'problem' dogs. (It's funny, I saw this episdoe before and never noticed the LD. NOw is see LD/GD everywhere!) The LD didn't want to play nicely but Cesar got the walk down perfectly. ANd needless to say the Doodle was adorable.

Since my daughter won't be getting her doodle pup until December 25th my boyfriends parents picked Katy up at the breeder and is keeping her for us until a few days before Christmas. Unfortunatley we will have to settle for pictures until then because she is 3 hours away. We still haven't quite figured out how to keep her quiet early Christmas morning or where exactly we will be keeping her all night Chrstimas Eve but that will be worked out somehow. My daughter is going to freak out (she…

Alert the North Pole! I think all those pictures of cute dogs wearing deer antlers and Santa hats you may receive this year are fake.
In one way, I'm glad to hear this. Seriously, do you really think two dogs that also just happen to be puppies AND labradoodles would actually sit still this long while wearing these on their heads?
On the other hand, I just want to be certain that…

I have two recent pet stories that I had to share with everyone!
First, I have learned that no matter how well-trained a dog is, they are still dogs. I spent Thanksgiving at my older brother's house in S. Florida. He is a sheriff's deputy and works K9s for the department. Living with his family are his current K9 partner, Chess, and his retired partner, Daisy. Daisy has done both bite and sniff work her entire life and just retired last year. Literally hundreds of thousands of…

So Lola was spayed on Friday, I was a nervous wreck. This was probably the hardest part of the surgery. I asked so many questions, they probably thought I was so picky, especially since I was at a low-cost spaying/neutering clinic. However, the vet tech's put me at ease and answered all of my questions. The questions I came up with from reading all the information on here about other people's experiences. Thank you doodle kisses!
I was extremely worried about the differences between…

Willson is 6 months now and weighs 45 pounds I was just noticing lately that the color of his coat seems to be changing colors to white, but it is only on his back legs does anyone have this going on with their doodles????
And boy oh boy I think this cold is getting to him I always wipe his paws with warm wash cloth but I think today he is tired of that he growled at me, oh well better to make sure the paws are okay then having little clumps of snow in them.

Raising and training a pup to be people-friendly is the second most important goal of pet-dog husbandry. Of course, teaching bite inhibition is always the most important goal. But during your pup's first month at home, urgency dictates that socialization with people is the prime puppy directive.
As a rule of thumb, your puppy needs to meet at least a hundred people before he is three months old. Since your puppy is still too young to venture out on the streets, you'll need to start…

All owners find it occasionally necessary to leave their puppydog at home alone. So before leaving your puppy for long periods, you should teach him how to amuse himself appropriately when left alone, such as by chewing stuffed chewtoys, and learning how to enjoy his own company without becoming anxious or stressed. A dog is a highly social animal and therefore requires adequate preparation for spending some of his time in social isolation and solitary confinement.
To teach your…

My lazy big boy Rosco got his exercise for the week today!!!
First, a hike with labradoodle puppy Noulli after lunch. Noulli is completely adorable :-) He is really into rocks and managed to carry a rather large one for quite a distance very proud of himself. Maybe Trasa will upload a video (hint, hint, hint!)
Slide show below:
And then we hit the parade downtown. We marched with the local rescue group/dog park group/humane society group float... All of…

This is my first blog here and I thought I'd say a bit about our family. Teddy is the newest addition to the gang and he is smply gorgeous!!! He's a 1 1/2 year old chocolate F2 Labradoodle, originally from Tora-Labradoodles here in Scotland. I rehomed him from a family who couldn't keep him anymore and he's just been here a couple of months although it feels like I've always had him! He had quite a drastic haircut when he came, which was smart, but I can't wait for it to grow back. He's already…
