The house is quiet tonight. It is full of happy, exhausted dogs just snoozing away. We spent a couple hours at the dog park today. It was a clear, crisp, beautiful day so there were lots of dogs at the park. Harlow and the boys had a blast playing ‘fox & hound’ with the other dogs. Harlow participated in an impromptu fetching contest. She did pretty well for a novice, but didn’t hold a candle to the Border collie that looks like she is ready to ‘go professional’. We met a couple of other…

This week I met 2 different doodle parents that did not know about DK. The first one was while I was in Petsmart. She told me about her 2 mini GDs and asked me about Harlow. Later in our conversation I asked if she was a member of Doodle Kisses and she replied “what’s that?”. The second one I met today in the dog park. He had 2 beautiful medium LDs, one black and one caramel trending towards red. He too replied “what’s that?” when I asked him if was a DK member. Silly me, I did not have DK…

Boy I am glad this week is almost over. Monday I got to spend 'quality time' with my dentist getting a crown. Tuesday I found out I was 'downsized' at work. Then Wednesday my PC 'caught' a virus that eventually caused me to just rebuild it. Just got back up and running about 30 minutes ago. Thank goodness I have Harlow to give me plenty of doodle hugs and kisses.

Funny how you never notice how you accumulate things until just before company arrives. Then suddenly you look at your house through your guest’s eyes. My guest probably thought I was running an in-home day care (or jail) because of all the doggie gates we have. There is the 1 blocking the family room to foyer door, then the 1 between the family room and kitchen. And the 1 between the foyer and dining room; not to mention the ex-pen keeping the living room off limits. Oh! We can’t forget the 3…

I knew our fence was getting old; we put it up the first year we moved in the house, 1995. But I didn’t realize how old until last week. I opened the door to call the pack in house just in time to see Harlow between the pickets coming back in the yard! Thank heavens Harlow didn't decide to take a great adventure. The boys were on the 'right' side of the fence with expressions as if to say 'Harlow, you are in trouble now'. The fence company came out this weekend for measure and quote; new fence…

This frigid weather has given Harlow a major case of the zoomies. It doesn’t matter if the boys are out with her or not. She flies around the backyard, bouncing, spinning and leaping over low bushes. She will stay outside for over 30 minutes until I bundle up, get the leash and go get her. The boys on the other hand hate the cold and stay outside just long enough to do their business. Every now and then Harlow gets to play a bit. This is only because she blocks the back steps so the boys can’t…

Today is both a happy and sad day. Today we learned the tumor removed from the top of Baxter’s head was benign. Today F. Jax started his journey to his forever home. Today DH and I are so happy about the news on Baxter's tumor as well as Jax now has a forever family of his own where he does not have to share the attention with 3 other dogs. Today we have an empty spot beside the bed and in our hearts.

Today I took both Harlow and Jax to Petsmart to see how much they weigh. Harlow has picked up another 2 pounds (47 pounds). When we pulled Jax on 11/21 he weighed 41.5 pounds now he weighs 45.5. He has picked up 4 pounds in 3 weeks. He is beginning to build up the muscles in his legs and building stamina running with the others in the back yard. He still can't run and play as long as the others. This Thursday, 12/17, Jax travels to his forever home with a nice couple in Virginia. We are going…

DH and I spent Thanksgiving afternoon trying to get pictures for our Christmas card for DK card exchange. To say the least, it was easier said than done. Harlow and our foster boy Jax were pretty well behaved.
But we really wanted to get a picture with The boys in it too... The boys were much more interested in our cat that was sitting right out of camera range.…

Woo Hoo! We did it! We made it the 10 miles to obedience class without up-chucking! Today I gave Harlow her Dramamine at 6:00 AM (our class is at 10:00 AM). She stilled drooled on the way, but not as much; it only took one tea towel to dry her chin rather than the normal two. What’s more, she was also lively for the class and was working with a spring in her step. Then we made the 10 miles back home without getting car sick.

We had one of those wonderful sunny, mild November days today so we took the pack to the dog park. There were lots of dogs there. Everyone was having a good time playing and sniffing the other dogs. I asked DH to go back to the car to get a bottle of water and proceeded to walk towards the back of the park to play fetch with Harlow. I thought Sherlock and Baxter had seen me walk down the hill. After a few minutes Sherlock came down to where Harlow and I were playing. I looked around for Baxter,…

Today being Saturday I took the opportunity to laze in bed a bit later than normal. The dogs thought it was a great idea too; after they had their breakfast of course. So after breakfast and a quick potty break everyone ran and hopped back in bed. After we all snuggled under the covers the pack decided that mommy might like a doggy bath. All 3 proceeded to give kisses, the beagles each took an ankle and Harlow decided my neck could use a good washing. That is when I began contemplating the…

These days I don’t dare leave Harlow out of my sight; otherwise she finds something to chew on. Besides more than a few shoes, socks, and other objects over the last few weeks; today she destroyed Sherlock’s doggie bed. I came home to find dog bed stuffing strewn all over the kitchen. Poor Sher was laying forlornly on what was left of his doggie bed cover. Looks like I will be doing some sewing this weekend.

I am not sure when it happened, but I definitely heard it today. Harlow has gotten her ‘big girl’ bark. She is still using her puppy bark when she is trying to convince the boys to play so it surprised me when she was in the backyard doing her business when she suddenly rang out with a very deep, very adult ‘WOOF, WOOF, WOOF’.
We have lots of large dogs in our neighborhood. Every evening around 7 the ‘doggy chat room’ opens for happy hour. You can hear the chocolate lab down the…

DH and I took Harlow with to visit his mother last weekend. She has always had toy poodles, but is now too frail to have a ‘full time pet’ and has not had a dog after her last poodle passed 4+ years ago. MIL had been asking about Harlow ever since we got her. Harlow was wonderful. She was very calm and gentle around grandma. She wanted to lie next to grandma's chair the whole time we visited. My MIL was so tickled; she kept petting Harlow and giggled when Harlow gently reached up to give her a…

Wow, is there a rule posted in the Doodle Book of Rules that says 'Thou shalt start blowing puppy coat and mat'? The day Harlow hit 8 months it was like instant matting. I have been brushing her every other day. I finally had to convert to the thinning shears and comb. Her ears were the worst. It took me quite a while to work through the mats. We had to take a play break after each ear. I swear I got enough hair from her ears to probably assemble a small cat.
We kept taking a play…

News Flash from the IDOG Georgia liasion about this weekend's romp. Due to all the rain we have had another change in venue.
Ok, hopefully this will be the LAST change in plans for the Doodle Romp!
First of all, the weather reports all seem to agree that it will be raining Saturday morning. That has not changed in several days so I am taking a leap of faith that the weather on Sunday will be better. So SUNDAY IT IS!
Our photographer,Bryan Nowak can't be there until…

Friday night between rain storms we took the opportunity to let the dogs out one last time before going to bed. About 5 minutes later one of the boys let out that distinctive beagle bay that lets you know they have found something. My first thought was ‘Oh Sh#*!, what have they found now’. I grabbed a leash and the flashlight. The flashlight revealed that all 3 dogs were standing over something and barking madly. When I got to the dogs I discovered a young opossum laying scarily still. Harlow…

Harlow is still getting car sick whenever she goes for a ride which is at least 2 to 3 times a week. I was researching on the web (and DK) for natural remedies for preventing car sickness. Several articles mentioned fresh ginger or gingersnaps. So today I tried the gingersnaps. I used the gingersnaps as treats while we practiced our obedience. I waited an hour before our car ride so Harlow could digest. We weren’t even 2 miles down the road before Harlow up-chucked in the car seat. Thankfully,…
