That’s how it usually starts – let’s face it puppies can melt the hardest of hearts!
Whether or not a person has thought about it for a long time OR they saw one recently and can’t get it out of their mind. All it takes is for one family member with the notion, and the “let’s get a puppy” train leaves the station! The search begins.
For me? – I had craved one like crazy for many years. When I finally decided I was ready to dedicate time, positive…

OK, so winter gets a bit boring and cabin fever sets in--the next thing you know, you are looking for something fun to do! So, how about finding some fun hats to put on the pups and take pictures! Hey, what about those hats that the teddy bears wear in the collection I have--I bet they would just fit!
This is the conversation my husband and I had today--and the results were hilarious--but remember, no pups were hurt in the making of these photos--they had just had their lunch and were…

Hi fellow DK-ers! I just finished up another portrait of a sweet doodle, and thought I would share. I painted this portrait of Libby, one of DK's own!
I kept ooo-ing and aww-ing over how cute Libby is, and I think my own dood…

This post is a bit late today due to poor cell phone Internet connectivity at 5:30A.M. this morning...absolute horrors!
Anyway, one of the best parts about moving into a house is the decorating aspect of it all. At times it can be frustrating because I obviously want everything to be finished immediately and picture perfect, but it takes time if you want everything just right. One decorating feat that I am particularly proud of is this:…

Do you ever wonder if dogs have the same problems that humans do in regards to where we fall in the pecking order due to our birth order? There have been thousands of studies done about the influence of birth order on our personalities and how it affects our abilities to interact with others, as we get older. My sister just turned 60 and she loves to tell anyone about how the middle position in a household of three girls was the worst position ever allotted to one poor soul. …

Tomorrow Oscar sees 2 dental vet specialists for his malocclusion (narrow base canines). We had his lower baby canines extracted at 10 weeks old because they were growing straight up and hitting his hard palate. It was found at that time he had a severe overbite, with his lower jaw unable to grow properly (due to the lower baby canines holding it in place). Since the extractions we had hoped his lower jaw would 'catch up' in growth to his upper jaw. 13 weeks later, that doesn't appear to be…

Before I tell my story let me start with this, I am ALWAYS ALWAYS very careful of Silverlyn and Goldie's interactions. They are ALWAYS supervised. They are NEVER left alone together, not even for a second. I preface with that because I feel so terrible about what happened tonight that I would expect some verbal lashings of someone indicating this is my fault...
Silverlyn and I built a tent in the living room. It started out as a great night. As she played in the tent I crawled…

Wow, so much has happened in the last week, I have been truly stressed. My place of employment of 21 years informed us they were closing the doors on Friday the 22nd, they gave us 2 weeks to "finish things up" so really two weeks to fret about our situations. For me the issue was more sadness than worry, after all, I had a husband that could support me. The hardest thing for me was saying goodbye to our clients, which by the way we were unable to do because of Franchise rules. I of course…

When we bought our house 2 years ago, we had it entirely repainted prior to move-in. It was an estate sale and really needed paint - two rooms had wood paneling, wallpaper, etc...
The only thing we did NOT paint was the kitchen - the cabinets. I just couldn't bring myself to paint the dark wood. Our painters said "you are going to regret not painting them now". Guess what? Fast forward 2 years and we can't stand them! We are having them painted white to match our trim.…

The “goodie” table was set!
Both Harley & Leo waited patiently by the party room door for their first guest to arrive…

Over the weekend, Jeff and I went out of town for a night to a friend's birthday party at a lake house. Subsequently, Milton spent the night at Downtown Dog, his daycare. The next day when we picked him up at 9:00A.M., he was zonked out! It was much too much effort for the Milt to keep his eyes open all day long. He literally slept from 10A.M. - 6P.M. Jeff and I thought we partied pretty hard the night prior, but obviously Milton went all out all night long!
On that day we…

Fudge has always been a very independent dog. I like that trait about her, because I have had Velcro dogs in the past who plastered themselves to me and if I took one step and turned around, the odds of me tripping over a dog were very high. In my relationship with Fudge I am the needy one, because it is usually me following her around and telling her to come back to bed with mommy so we can snuggle. She mixes up her routine to keep me on my toes and one day she will want up on the bed…

For months now I have watched Shaggy become well....more shaggy and I've loved it! His coat is SO different from Fozzie's that I frankly didn't know what would become if it and what I would do with it. I tried taking pictures to show what I'm trying to describe but I'm not the photographer many of you are. Anyway, I made an appointment for tomorrow with my groomer friend who does all the clipping, cutting, scissoring on Fozzie (I bath, brush, and trim but the full body cut I'll…

With Doodle Day almost here, I’ve been keeping some late hours this week preparing for the “big day.”
Both Leo & Harley generally “retire” for the evening between 10:00-10:30pm, (I have early risers).
The last two nights, Harley (we’ll call him “the wise one”), showed his team spirit and extended his bedtime hour about an additional thirty minutes. But after 11:00pm, he would do a David Copperfield – “disappear” and then…

Jeff and I will have been married two years in July. When we joined households, we brought together a hodgepodge of furniture. Jeff owned quite a few "pieces" from his bachelor days, and I was loaded up with garage sale finds and side of the road treasures. So, we combined forces, junking some items and keeping others. Overall, I have been quite satisfied with our eclectic furniture, all except for our bedroom set.
Post college, I was driving home from waitressing, when…

Just had to share this picture of Paz and his new cousin "Daisy" who is my grandaughters' new cavalier spaniel puppy, age 5 months. Paz and I spent the weekend watching my grandchildren, Sadie (age 8) and Josephine (age 5) and their puppy, a cavalier spaniel named Daisy, age 5 months. Daisy and Paz are a riot together....poor Paz, he couldn't take one step without Daisy pulling his ears, tail or stealing his toys. It was a riot to watch Paz who is almost 75lbs, chase Daisy, who is all of…

Our house is under attack. I can’t say for sure how many attackers are out there, but I am fairly certain there are at least two angry birds involved. I am pretty sure I could identify them in a lineup, although one cardinal looks the same to me as another. I just know that two of them would have ruffled feathers and blockheads. Every year, for as long as we have lived in this house, we have had one or two angry birds banging on our windows and it has got to stop. A couple of years ago a…

Lyric's pups are now between 2 and 3 pounds and are just starting to walk (well, it is really more like staggering...) and hear things. The eyes will be open in a few days--can't wait! they are very good--they eat and sleep with hardly a peep out of them in between--of course, the credit goes to Lyric who has been a fantastic momma so far--she takes care of them so well and when they are sleeping, she goes over to the corner of the room and sleeps too--good girl, Lyric!
She loves the…

As you might recall, I love the holidays! Valentine's Day is one that I have always enjoyed, mainly because it is a silly lovey dovey holiday resplendent with chocolates and flowers. Growing up, Valentine's Day would fall just before or during our winter vacation, and my family would always be somewhere hot, sunny, and tropical! Our trips, and this holiday, hold fond memories in my heart. Likewise, for years now my big sister, Heather, has mailed me a Valentine's Day box complete with…
