WELCOME TO THE FOOD GROUP - This group was started in an attempt to present well-researched and FACT-based information on the amazingly complicated and confusing issue of feeding our dogs. There are also many issues we would like to explore. We thought it would be helpful to put all of these questions, information, and feedback into one place here on DK where everyone can find it, contribute to it, ask questions, and learn together.
WE ASK THAT YOU NOT POST ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PRODUCTS FOR WHICH YOU RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF COMMISSION OR COMPENSATION. THANK YOU.
IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ "FOOD GROUP GUIDELINES" BEFORE STARTING A NEW DISCUSSION.

Tired of the same food

I think this is an easy question. I think Maggie is tired of her food. She's been eating the same thing for a long time, and she's kind of blah on it. She's my most reluctant eater anyway. She's eating Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Beef. She's…Continue

Your favorite high value treats?

Riley LOVES her kibble but she is really not super motivated by any treats we've tried.  We really haven't tried that many (just pure bites chicken and Zuke's minis, right now using a different Fromm kibble as treats) but we need a couple different…Continue

My turn to ask for advice. :)Jasper's digestive system has gotten a little bit "off" the past few weeks. I'm chalking it up to new and different treats, and too many of them; the treats were being dispensed very liberally during the weeks leading up…Continue

My Maisie girl is an odd cookie, she spends an easy 20-30 minutes on a medium size whimzee? Meanwhile my other two have polished off theirs and are checked thr wagon so to speak, even a small treat like the yummy chummies she can take an easy 5+ minutes to eat? I'll be planning my order in the next few days.

That's good.

Comment by Laura and Angus on April 29, 2019 at 6:52am

I can't say he doesn't like it exactly - just weirdly won't try it without support. He's weird. Angus really doesn't get a lot of extra fat/calories in his diet -- 1 tbsp (or less) of PB in a Kong when we leave the house (so Tues/Thurs he gets, at most, 2 tbsp). He goes to daycare 2-3 days per week and gets about 3 walks per day on non-daycare days. We have ourselves an extremely active doodle, so he's always been at a very healthy weight.

Angus is the first I've heard of who didn't like them!
Go easy with peanut butter. There is no food in the entire world that is higher in fat and calories than peanut butter.

Comment by Laura and Angus on April 29, 2019 at 6:33am

Ugh - we tried out a beef trachea yesterday with Angus and he was not even willing to try it. Anyone else have a weird doodle who takes a while to try new treats, toys, or chews? I'm hoping we can get him to try it out --- might entice him with a little PB on the end ... that sometimes helps get him started. We have a weird doodle.

I just answered my own question. Amazon sells a package of 20 of the same size for 32.99. That's $1.65 each.

Comment by Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle on April 26, 2019 at 3:22pm

I mean, Best Bully Sticks website has a package of 10 for 11.99 That's $1.20 each. Is Amazon cheaper??

Comment by Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle on April 26, 2019 at 3:20pm

Yeah, a lot of the beef chews do come from South America. But Best Bully is a reliable company. Not sure about buying them third hand thru Amazon. I know they have good pricing, but sometimes that isn't the most important thing...

Comment by Leslie, Yogi & Maci Bear on April 26, 2019 at 3:14pm

Just double checking. Best Bully sticks on Amazon said they are from Brazil?
