Actually my husband came up with the idea. It has screening on all sides with a zipper.  It was easy to clean up and very flat for storing.

The month of March we traveled from Kentucky to Alabama to Mississippi, back to Alabama, to Florida, then Georgia, Tennessee and back home.  During that drive we also traded our RV in for a new one.  We were able to empty the old RV out and put in the new one in one day.  We were traveling with a 3 yr old Labradoodle and a 2 month old Labradoodle.  They both did very well.  Moneypenny the 2 month old (At that time) was a very good traveler.  When we parked and let her outside some we had a tent for her to play in.  She did well on her leash and walked along with Lucy. No motion sickness from either of them.  Lucy has been traveling with us since we rescued her 3 yrs ago.

Patrick, our dogs travel much better in the RV also.  They have begun to bark when left alone though - drat.  I guess we are going to have to actually buy individual bark collars to see if we can stop this behavior.

I have 3 doodles (just got the 3rd) so travelling will be a new adventure for us.  To date we have done 4 or 5, month long road trips with our doodles in our truck camper!  It's large with a slide but still alittle small for 4 of us.  RV parks have been great, plug in with air conditioning leave the flat screen running and the dogs just sleep.  While we travel the back seat of the truck is converted to a giant dog bed.  They just sleep... they are amazing travellers.  It has become a bit of a thing to have their picture taken in front of monuments or special places.

We have also stayed in hotels with them.  Once they get over the initial noises they settle down.  I always find hotels with the big fan unit better only because it provides good white noise.

Our next move is to start renting houses for a month or two in our favourite destinations.  Our dogs are crate trained and non shedding, so hoping it won't be too much of an issue.

As you can see by my profile picture we drove them down to Mexico.  We crossed 4 borders and only got asked once about the dogs... and then the border guy asked me if they were DALMATIONS?!?!  Seriously?

I'd like to take the dogs to Europe but may start with Hawaii.  Big dreams.

We stayed at the Westin Bonaventure in LA which was very accommodating to Bosco - didn't even charge an additional up front fee, only if there was any "damage" to the room. Could not leave him unattended, of course. Only little problem was - we were upgraded to a high floor, very nice room - no complaints there, but I was concerned about coming from a house where it's an easy open of the door to the backyard and now it wasn't just waiting for the elevator but the dog walking area is located on the 4th floor, pool deck.  For some strange reason, the elevator doesn't GO to the 4th floor - you have to switch elevators or go to the 5th and walk down or the 3rd and walk up. I chose the first option and carried Bosco down the escalator (one tourist was shocked when we got off and saw I put Bosco down to walk - he exclaimed he'd thought he was a stuffed animal!). So it made for a VERY LONG walk to get to the relief area -- fortunately, no accidents along the way!

I have a 1 1/2 year old labradoodle.  We just drove from California to Texas.  Things went GREAT!  but we did have two drivers.  Stayed at La Quinta Inns and Days Inn.  La Quinta is the best by far.  The only problem we had was the super hot pavement and no grass at the rest stops in Phoenix  and Tuscon.

A little too ambitious for a 1 year old labradoodle to drive from California to New Jersey, up the east coast into Montreal. One driver, one doodle. We might attempt to do this again this year... is a 2 year old better? Or worse? Hmmm. Two drivers are better than one.

Yep, La Quinta is great for people who travel with dogs. The one near me has big clean rooms, very reasonable rates, free breakfast, and allows up to two dogs per room with no size limit or extra charge.
