Finally have confirmation!!

Wass and I have been really excited about our decision to add a puppy to our little family of 2. We just recently got confirmation from Almond Blossom Doodles that we are on their waiting list for a puppy due between July and August. SO excited!!! We will be visiting Almond Blossom on March 26th. We can't wait to officially begin the adoption process. Good times!

Sheila's Got Hops!!!

Always something new with a puppy. Sheila has discovered she can JUMP!!! My DH was taking a turn w/ her on HIS couch during basketball this weekend and all of a sudden my face was covered w/ fluff. Just like that, Sheila decided she had had enough of being lifted on and off couches, and mommy looked TOO RELAXED, so she ran and pounced. My DH was in stitches and so was I after Sheila and I got over the shock. Now when my daughter played volleyvall and had a really good vertical jump, they…

Coughing Dog at the Dog Park

So I took Coop to the DP for a quick outing during lunch. A guy pulls up and lets out his gigantic English Sheepdog. I think, cute dog, and don't put much more thought in to it...until....the dog starts coughing, and I mean COUGHING - like to the point where he hacked stuff up! By this time, he had already played with Cooper and had Cooper's ball in his mouth - and of course Coop had already had it back in his mouth. The dog stops playing and coughs until a bunch of white foamy gunk comes out.… Continue

help identifying dog's breed(s)

If you get a chance, please check out my pictures of Golda on my profile and let me know what you think she is. At about 5 months, she weighs 24 pounds. (At 2.5 months, she weighed 14 pounds.) She has big feet and very soft fur. Thanks.

Unplanned Doodle Romp

It is a beautiful sunny day today so we decided to take advantage of the weather and go to our local park. Seems it was family fun day at the park there were dogs and people everywhere. Quincy was wearing his boots to keep those feet from getting too dirty and for some reason everyone thought this was really amusing. We decided to sneak off to the tennis court for a little off leash time and a game of fetch. We were soon joined by two other dogs, a… Continue

Puppy School Is Very Boring Mommy!

Well we're back from Puppy Obedience. It was actually pretty funny. Murphy slept at my feet through most of it. In his class there are two boxers (litter mates), a Golden, a Shitzu, a German Shepherd, and some sort of Lab mix. These puppies were wild and crazy (barking, jumping, nipping and peeing - just the way puppies should act). Murphy was having nothing to do with all of this. At one point the instructor called him into the group, he went and played for a couple of minutes, and then back… Continue

Abel's First Day of School

Today we took Abel to his first day of beginner training at Petsmart. I wasn't planning on taking him to Petsmart cause I really don't know how good they are but I talked to the trainer and the hours worked the best for us. Plus, Abel is a pretty good puppy (well he is nine months old now), and we just need to work on him controlling himself in excited situations. He will listen to us when the mood is right but add anything into the mix and he lets his curiosity and excitement take…

lookalike

Camilla & Darwin: My new puppy, Golda, looks exactly like yours. She is a shelter dog, supposedly half golden retriever, half terrier but everyone who sees her says she's a goldendoodle. Now I'm becoming convinced.

No More "Company Manners"...I'm part of the family now!

Well tomorrow it will be one week since we brought our Murphy home. I'm not sure how to even describe this week. The first several days our Murph was "Mr. Perfect". I know Guinness thought he was a real "goody goody". Guinness loved to lead him astray, and then when the puppy did do something wrong, Guinness would bark to tell me. He showed him where all the wastebaskets were, and when Murph took something out Guinness would bark like crazy (and he doesn't bark). Tonight while I was on DK, they… Continue

Three Doods Tree Service

Poe, Talullah and Clyde inspect the tree that fell and missed our house by a few feet. If only I could send them out there with a chainsaw to clean up the mess!

major attidood

The other night at his obedience class Moose refused to do a down. He has known down since he was fairly young and did probably 20 downs right before class. After a few minutes of fighting with my strong willed pup, I took him outside to walk so that we could both cool down. He did 3 downs in the grass for me with no problem. We went back inside and tried again... to no avail. Then I started to wonder. Does my pampered pooch simply prefer softer surfaces on which to do a down? Could the hard… Continue

petsmart

7 years ago, I got my poodle puupy at a rescue clinic at petsmart. he came out of a carton of puppies covered in their own ___. petsmart gave him a free grooming, putting him ahead of all the other dogs, so I would not have to take him home dirty. I was so impressed. I also thought I would share that info when it was relevant.

A New Day

Sort of a rough night last night. Sophie was restless. She only drank if I held ice cubes for her. But today with the sunshine she is much better. Up and about, ate a little breakfast and just a tiny drink. I would like for her to drink more but she isn't very interested.

Her incision looks good but I was surprised by how large an area they had to shave on her tummy. They also shaved a spot on her leg for the IV catheter. That little spot seems to be aggravating her the most.…

Happy Anniversary, Fudge!

One year ago today, on Friday the 13th, my daughter and I picked up Fudge, our new puppy. We drove 600 miles back to PA with her and she was perfect. She still loves the car! This was one of the best decisions I ever made and came after losing two older dogs. I stated loudly many times, "NO MORE DOGS", but I couldn't stop myself from looking online for what was out there. The looking became more intense and my family was placing bets on how long it would be until we had another dog. What a… Continue

Groomer advice!

So, I have a friend (a camper in our campground) who does grooming and does it out of her home. She does a fantastic job on Samson. He had his 3rd visit on Thursday and when I went to pick him up, she told me, "as a friend, I want to let you know that you must take this dog to obedience classes". Well.....I feel bad, I have not done this yet. Samson is 9 months old and I have been doing it "myself". I took my chocolate lab to obedience classes (that was 11 years ago) and I was… Continue

Beautiful photos and common Dood traits

There are some really great pictures in this week's athletic Doods. Great photographers on DK.

I am amazed at all the common Dood traits when I look at these photos. I live just outside of New Orleans and we don't have a lot of Doods down here. Traits that I thought were "just goofball Murph" I see over and over in your photos. The huge mouth with the gigantic teeth. Flying through the air to catch a ball or frisbee...but mostly just loving to fly. Leaping into the…

I found an affordable, cute, AND masculine dog collar!

I have been wanting to upgrade Darwin's old nylon collar to a nice leather one for quite some time. I did a lot of searching but all I could find was boring brown and black ones. This would be fine... but I really wanted something more exciting. So I looked harder. In my search, I found this collar which I absolutely loved.

It's perfect! Bright, fun, leather... and 200 dollars. 200 DOLLARS! Yeah, that is outrageous.

So I searched… Continue

Poor Sophie

Poor Sophie had surgery today. She went in at 8:30 this morning and was ready to come home at 1:00. She had pre-anesthetic bloodwork, her nails trimmed, microchipped and the spaying. Everything went smoothly. Her incision had a tiny bit of bleeding but looks really good. She is still really groggy right now! Not interested in eating but drinking a little with encouragement. Poor baby. She is still so good natured and sweet. She always hangs with us in the family room or follows me from room…

Update #3 on Wilbur Foster Doodle (it's long, I'm sorry)

(mostly) Good news abounds with the Wilbert. First - he responded to neither "Wilbur" or "Orville", so I have offically decided to go with Wilbur. He has no secondary skin infections that require treating. The groomer (the Pet Gallery in Atlanta - oh how I love them!) did a WONDERFUL job grooming him. They said he was a super sweet boy (which he is). They were able to work through some of the hair on his head, so he looks very poodle-ish right now, but his body is cut to the skin (the hair…
