I truly have planned many trips east to be with my DK friends. It is always one thing or another and for four years I just could not make it happen. When I drove east to pick up Starlit, I had been awake 49 hours and missed my chance to meet F. Even four years ago, there were no smart phones or fancy communication and by the time we connected I was hours away. What a missed opportunity which I’ve regretted since…

For months, Joanne and I have been trying to plan a date for her to come visit. Time after time, Joanne had come up with some lame excuse after another to get out of visiting…..we had an ice storm….the roads are closed due to snow….I promise I will come soon…..until I finally took matters into my own hands.…

Yikes! Already! 6 months old 5/28/14. :)
Time sure does fly when you are having fun!
The newest feat we have learned is to open the door on the deck. It has a special push and pull latch handle.
We are just keeping on with the regular obedience training .... because ... I can see the Tween coming in! LOl! Reese is such a people lover! He can hardly contain himself! Some way we have to curb this .... time .... I keep telling myself "Slow is Fast" in the…

Went to the Farm tonight. We've recently dug a large pond. Lilly and Penny LOVE it. They get extremely dirty and sandy and full of grass, weeds, ticks, burrs, you name it. They are a couple of naughty teenagers- they won't get out of the water when you ask them and they don't want to shower when we get home either!
They eat like they have never seen food when we get home as well. They tend to be picky eaters- more tend to graze. They just ate twice their normal amount of food in about…

I hope everyone could say a prayer for our veterans. My father a world war two Vet. died Sunday May 18th. He was a two time bronze medal earning for bravery in action. He was my every day hero. A great father, grand father and great grand father. I will miss him dearly. I have no idea what to do with my time now. I was caring for him with my siblings 24/7 for some time now.

So Jackson Pollock, how can you be 3 years old already? Well you're still my baby boy. What should we do today? Maybe go to the pet shop and pick out something special and visit our friends there? Should we stop by and see our friends at the ice cream shop too for a doggie cup? We'll try to get a long walk in between the raindrops today. I think Nanny has her special meatballs…

Where did the time go, right? I'm still exhausted when I think of our first few months together.
Those of you who were telling me 2 years ago that the difficult puppies are always the ones who will make you smile later on, were completely right. He is one of those eternal puppies, a never-aging dog. Very silly, playful, and just a love bug. He does not chase balls, unless there is a ball he can steal from his brother. His favorite game is a chase. I want to put a collar on him…

Hi there. I am looking to connect with families in the Ann Arbor Metropolitan Detroit Michigan area that would be interested in pet sitting for one another on occasion. We have a 10 month old Golden Doodle named Maggie. She is house and crate trained and great with other dogs and kids but has never been around cats. She is a sweetie pie but is still a bit timid of strangers but once she is familiar with a new person, she warms right up! We also have a 4 year old Pointer/Dob mix named Chloe…

Okay, well, this is a biiiiiit of a belated birthday post but oh well. Milton's birthday, as some of you may know, was on April 7th, and we had a rather subdued but intimate party for him. The only two people, other than Jeff and me, who really recognized Milt's birthday were my good friend Lindsay, with a text message, and my mom with a card. See the below:…

We once had a wonderful cat who did great with our dogs. He was Holly's favorite friend. His mom had been feral and he was a giant, well over 20 pounds in his prime.
He was an excellent hunter and he cleared our property of vermin. We enjoyed him very much and loved how he kept the mice and gophers away from our property.
We had him trained…

Saturday I knew something was going on when Mom started organizing her camera stuff and then she started packing a cooler. Boy did I get excited. Then she got my seat belt harness and put it on me and we were off on an outing. Of course I was so excited that I didn't pee before getting in my car and Dad stopped at this boat landing and I relieved myself.
After an eternity we got to where we were going. The first thing we did was walk on the beach.…

I finally found my perfect Goldendoodle! :) His name is Cooper and I officially ADOPT him Tuesday! I cannot wait! He was a stray in the Twin City area. He was a ragamuffin when I met him yesterday! Can't wait to show him how great a loved dog's life is!
Thanks to all of those who helped me and encouraged me along my adoption…

Recently in Dallas, we had tornado warnings coupled with dark stormy weather, and they actually went into effect at the end of my school day. As soon as I heard the announcement at 3:45P.M. (The kids had already left, and I get out at 4P.M.) that we might be asked to take cover, I packed up and got ready to get a move on. With Jeff and Milt Dog waiting at home, I certainly did not want to be stuck in the "tornado position" at school. If you grew up in the North, like me, you probably have…

I let my daughter walk Rosco at a park today. I never let my kids walk the dogs alone normally, but it was about 10am on a Sunday and pretty empty there.
I taught my daughter a way to hold the leash so she had more control but could easily release her grip if needed and she could give a quick correction if his head started wandering. I didn't expect much from…

WARNING!
Today's post is NSFW (for those of you who are behind on your Internet jargon, that means "not safe for work"). So if you're reading this while at your desk, stop now and wait until you get home. Otherwise, you may get fired.
It was hard to choose the theme song for today's blog entry given the difficult subject matter, but I found two tracks that are particularly à propos: "Boys Don't Cry" by the Cure and "…

Yesterday, there was a major fire just south of us that burned 850 acres but due to efficient firefighting there were no buildings destroyed or lives lost. When we woke up this morning, we got the news that the fire had been surrounded and was well under control.
Then...
Wildfires began breaking out all over the county...
I…

My dog-training regimen, or lack thereof, has been well documented on DK. I have the absolute best indoor dogs in the world, who turn into completely different dogs when out on our daily walks. Vern pulls like an ox, is oblivious to his prong collar and thinks corrections are my way of letting him know I am ready for another surge or…

It happened again last night. John and I were in bed, watching TV, when I heard a funny, faraway noise. It really is a miracle I heard any noise at all, because the older we get, the louder the TV gets. At this rate, it won’t be long before we have to caption all of our programs, so the neighbors don’t yell over across the fence, “Hey, stop flipping the…
