At the school where I teach, I attend chapel five days per week. Four of those days it is a brief service where we sing hymns, recite prayers, and listen to a Bible reading followed by a sermon. On the one other day, we have a full service complete with Communion. This may sound like an awful lot of worship, but it is actually a really nice reflection time for both the students and teachers halfway through the day.…

I am so over joyed today.
Some of you may know, but I work as a school social worker at local public school. Part of my job is to assist homeless students with transportation and other school needs to ensure their success in school. I also work as a mental health therapist for kids some of the evenings as my second job.
Today was overwhelmingly joyful day for me to hear two wonderful news. I thought these two seniors are really, true valedictorians in my eyes. They over came…

First of all, before I go any further, I would like to say I love all my nieces and nephews and all of their children. Up until this point, the only small children we have had overnight have been my niece, her husband, and their children from my side of the family. These small children do not have any pets and their introduction to…

When I brought my several Maltese and Holly out to go potty last night, they all started barking at the slope next to my house on which we have rosemary growing. I could see what appeared to be twinkling of several eyes. Holly ran towards it and just as fast retreated back into the house, completely scared. A couple of the Maltese were still barking at the "intruders"...
Turned out that what we thought were "intruders" was a partially deflated mylar party balloon. It was…

Those of you who have been with DK for the past 6 years pretty much know the things that Gracie Doodle either gets into or has had. Thankfully, up until now, I have had Pet Insurance. We have had two surgeries to remove Fox Tails from her front mitts paws, one to remove a Mexican Feather Grass seed from a turbine in her nose and a recent surgery to remove what turned out to be a calcium deposit on her hip due to Rattlesnake vaccine. For…

Imagine our surprise when Gracie was invited this past winter to be an amateur therapy dog for our Nordic skiing students with autism. On a good day, Gracie will obey the sit command and, with proper treats, will do a variety of cute tricks. On most days, it is highly unlikely that she will sit, stay and come if there are more interesting people, animals, or…

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! This has been a very eventful three-day weekend for the Milt dog, Jeff, and me. That's because Grand-Nan and Aunt Heather are here! My mom flew in this past Wednesday evening (very late night due to engine difficulty and flight delay), and it has been lovely visiting with her. The first two days both Jeff and I were at work, so she was at home with Milton. She claimed that he "ignored" her, but I kind of doubt that. Milton is…

Forgive me… I meant to tell you about Leo’s pawty at Olde Towne Pet Resort last week, but felt compelled instead to post information about the tornado in Oklahoma and the pet owners who needed our help!
Today, seems “paw“fect to tell you what a spectacular day it was!
A special “doodle hug” to DD (Doodle Daughter) who was super sweet for putting together some“groovy goodie…

We have had Gracie for a year now, and she is a true delight - albeit a very expensive one.
We have had many visits and calls to our vet, Dr. Sue, in the last year - about everything from after-effects of eating a rotten rodent to sunblock ingestion (most of which shot into her ear when she first bit the container). Dr. Sue has a…

Kvell in Yiddish means to boast in a proud way. I do it whenever one of my children accomplishes something that I think is particularly noteworthy. Jessica, my eldest musician daughter wrote and performed her own song at a charity concert the other night.( I had to add it as a link to my blog as I couldn't embed the original recording ) …

We were watching a video about Venice Italy the other night in preparation for our trip. All our dogs were sleeping around the family room with Holly sleeping on the couch. The video was showing the Venice Film Festival and the presenter was calling to a friend of hers, Oliver, in the crowd of people.
"Ollie!", she called!
Holly's head came up.
"Ollie!" she called again...
Holly jumped off the couch, ran over to the sliding…

I think that I need to get myself one of those Gardening Aprons to use as a Puppy Apron. That or maybe I've come up with a new Gimmick that I could sell to all the new Doodle Moms that are spending $3000 in the first few months of getting their puppies! It's gotta have lots of pockets of different sizes, be made with some nice fabrics with Doodles on it and come in either Pink or Blue! I'm a little out of practice with this puppy business. Plus, I've never had a puppy a grumpy 5 year…

I used to write all the time when Lilly was a puppy and then life got in the way. We got Lolly for Lilly at Christmas because we are those kinds of people that buy a dog for their dog. Lilly is an F1b and about 15 pounds. Lolly is as F1 and about 25 pounds. Lolly is a month younger then Lilly and they are the best of friends. Lolly was going to be used as a breeder, but has hip issues so the breeder did not wan to pass that gene down and asked us if we would like her rather then a puppy.…

Harley’s face depicts what I felt when I heard about the devastation in Moore, OK…
Having lived in many areas of this great country, I have been blessed. Never have I experienced anything as terrifying as a tornado, hurricane, or any other natural disaster.
Last August I wrote a blog post about Hurricane Isaac and the damage it did as it swept through New Orleans. I remember…

Fudge and Vern went to the groomer’s on Monday. We are having company this weekend and my niece has not met Fudge or Vern and I wanted them to put their best feet forward. Besides, Vern was green. Over the weekend, we went to the park and Vern rolled in something and when he landed upright, his…

We convene a literacy program for the families we serve at the BKFJC; the literacy program is funded by the Brooke Jackman Foundation which was established to honor a young woman “Brooke Jackman” who perished during the terrorist attacks on 911. In any event, Paz (who is a registered "Pet Partner") accompanies me to work at the BKFJC, 1 -2 times per week to provide support for children who have witnessed domestic violence; he is…
