If I can't gush here, then No where!!!!

Today I spent the morning with Jack giving him a bath, grooming and nail trimming. He just warms my heart, not usually on grooming days, usually we are so wiped out, that when we are done we go our separate ways and have a rest.

Today I went to visit my friend in the hospital, she had a baby and I am the honorary auntie.... I put it off as long as I could the dreaded going into the baby store.. For me, this tears at my heart more then anything... I can get lost in there for…

An X-ray, an ultra-sound and $547.00 later . . . .

This a.m. started off just fine - well, except for getting up at 4:30 a.m. to help DH pack and drive him to the airport.  I fed Rooney about 5:30, he ate just fine, had aready gone poo and pee and he was just running around like a crazy toddler.  The mobile groomer was coming at 9:00 to give Roo a much needed spa day, I was excited - I love it when he is buffed and puffed - so cute.  So I'm thinking this is going to be a good day - till 8:15 when Rooney threw up his breakfast.  I didn't…

Happy 2nd Birthday Lady Peri!

Today is Peri's 2nd Birthday!  I can't believe it has been two years since I received an email from the breeder saying "she only had 6 puppies and you will have to wait until the next litter".  I was crushed.  But low and behold, two people ahead of me did not want a girl.  I have to admit, I wanted a male originally.  I decided I liked the parents and didn't care and went with the little girl.  To say I made the right decision is a huge understatement.

Happy Birthday to Lady…

Week 1: Obedience class review

The first week went well, Bernie is conscientious of us when walking. Practice really does pay off.

We stuck to the 10 minute training blocks, but were able to do 2-3 per day, it worked great for us.

And tonight in class we had to "prove" we worked with him all week.

Bernie did okay, but not great. We think it's in part due to the sociable Doodle nature and the fact that he's 10 months old...but he did better after the…

Lily's first "Paws to Read" program visit

I originally posted this in the Therapy group, but wanted to let everyone know how Lily's first visit went. A little background first. A couple weeks ago we got a call from the coodinator of the pet therapy program we volunteer with about a new reading program at one of our local librarys. She wanted to know if we wanted to be the first dog they have for the kids to read to. We thought Lily would be great at it.

Well this last Saturday was the first time. And we were right. Lily did…

Really Need to Vent!!!

I was standing in school just now waiting for my children when one of the moms that I know started talking about another school's auction she had attended last year.  Apparently, a doodle was one of the items to bid on and this woman 'won' the doodle.  When I asked her how much she adored him, she told me...wait for it...prepare yourself...that she had to bring it to a shelter because they were not prepared for how big and rowdy it would be and how much time and energy it would take to raise a… Continue

Doodle see...doodle do...

I always say that I find doodles to be so humanlike.  Well, here is another reason why I say that.  Seamus (my almost 2 year old doodle) has recently developed the habit of sulking when he is angry at us...particularly if we won't let him romp outside.  Our dining room was built off of our kitchen and is two steps down from the kitchen.  We also have a backyard exit from the dining…

All I Really Need to Know I Learned from my Dog

All I Really Need to Know I Learned from my Dog

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is… Continue

Will a summer cut bring summer weather?

After 7 months Gavin finally got a trip to the groomer.  I encouraged her to take it short.  Spring is a time of renewal and shedding all that is unnecessary after all.  Plus I figured a summer cut may bring us warmer weather.

Before:

Two and three quarters hours and $40 plus tax (and a really good tip) later:…

To be Loved & Wanted

The first week of Ayla in our lives seems like such a long time ago- but only 2 months have passed   She was a scared, shy, untrusting pup. I wondered, will she ever show any affection for me ( like me) at all?    Being a mom of an autistic child , you learn to accept that when your child does'nt show any emotions ( or does'nt know how to express emotions the same way)  towards you.  You live with that.   But having a pup generally not wanting to play with me was sad, at the beginning.    It's… Continue

Yearning for Spring

The wind howls loudly and snow flurries move sideways across my window panes, a fire flickers softly in the fire place. There is no place to go, it's warm and cozy inside, cold and harsh outside, what to do, what to do. Find a good book, cuddle on the sofa with my favorite dood, a scratch of the belly and a rub of the ears and he is putty in my hands. A long winters day you think, no, not winter but the beginnings of spring. Spring conjures up visions of sunshine, greening grass , long walks…

Sunday Musings

My Girls are all grown up now and I'm so excited to be planning my new puppy which will bring a new dimension to our family life.  I'm at the stage where I have now done all the planning I can and am just waiting for my new Puppy to be born safely.  I have met lots of new friends here and am constatnly thinking back to my own childhood which of course shaped and prepared me for adult life.  Here is another memory that flooded back during the week and one that I hadn't thought of for many…

Neely has company!!!

We are happy to say that we are puppy sitting for our friends while they are on vacation in Florida for two weeks. Harley is four months old golden doodle from the same breeder that Neely is from. He is adorable. They are spending all their time wrestling and sleeping. I think they should have named him shadow though. He loves to be by or with his people. Not clingy just likes to be beside me. I am uploading photos and some video so that you can enjoy them almost as much as I am. I was also… Continue

Nola and her two boys!

Nola had her two pups yesterday--both 13 ounces and delivered by C section (vet recommended it, since they seemed big for her dainty 30 pound frame) Mom and pups are doing very well. Two more boys (Lyric had 5 boys)!! The black one has a big white star on his chest. Very cute. Nola is pretty darn cute, too! More later!…

FYI about Dr. Doodle

Last night in Yappy Hour I really had a great time getting the chance to talk to new people and getting to know some people better.

As it would turn out for whatever reason many of us on there are people who either ourselves deal with or have some close to us that deal with chronic/terminal or long term disease. I had formed a group about a week or so ago but never said anything. After talking to a few of you I went ahead and mentioned the group. We now have a few members.…

Play Ball!

Haley has been “under the weather” with a stomach bug and on two meds for the past four days. It also has been mostly rainy and wet so he has been inside and no play with his favorite ball. This morning we were watching the news on TV when they had a segment on basketball. Haley saw the basket ball and ran to the TV and watched. When the ball was gone he ran to DH and gave him the signal that he had to go outside. DH and I knew what it was all about as he had just gone out to do his business…

Peri taught a cairn terrier how to do a zoomie!

So, I think it is safe to say that 99% of our doodles have the occasional zoomie :)

I just don't think other breeds do this as much!  For example, my mom and dad's cairn terrier, Lucy (aka Lucinda the imposter who stays with us from time-to-time), has never zoomed in her life.  Until recently.

Up until now, we have not had a yard. So every Sunday, it's dinner at my parents. The dogs come, Peri plays outside and zooms, figure 8 style, around the back yard. Lucy…

April Fool's Brought Snow AND a BEAR!

Sitting down to do the taxes this morning...and out of the corner of my eye I see the bird feeder going down....!?!?!

I didn't think the wet and heavy snow that had been falling all morning could do it.......

This guy hung around for quite a while....and Banjo REALLY wanted to go out and play with him....but was entertained watching him from the window.

Guess who WON'T be doing "poop patrol" for a while?!…
