A good breeder will be extremely choosy in accepting prospective puppy buyers. A prospective owner should be equally choosy when selecting a breeder. A prospective owner can begin to evaluate a breeder's expertise by noting whether she ranks the puppies' mental well-being and physical health above their good looks. Assess several factors:
· whether your prospective puppy's parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and other relations live to a ripe old age
· whether the…

Whether selecting your prospective pup from a professional breeder or from a family breeding a litter for the very first time, the criteria are the same.
First, look for puppies raised indoors around human companionship and influence. Avoid pups raised in an outdoor run or kennel. Remember, you want a puppy to share your home, and so look for a puppy that has been raised in a home.

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man." Mahatma Ghandi (1869-1948)
This quote still rings true nearly a century later as The Puppy Mill, a documentary by William Wolfenden, independent film producer and owner of Seawolf Productions from New South Wales, Australia, gives us cause to re-examine our treatment of…

“In man, social intercourse has centered mainly on the process of absorbing fluid into the organism, but in the domestic dog and to a lesser extent among all wild canine species, the act charged with most social significance is the excretion of fluid. For man the pub, the estaminet, the Biergarten, but for the dog the tree trunk, the lintel of door or gate, and above all the lamppost, form the focal points of community life. For a man, the flavors of alcoholic drinks, but for a dog the…

The Alpha Fallacy
It is popularly held that rank is established and maintained by physical strength and dominance and that the more dominant (i.e., higher ranking) dogs are more aggressive. Hence, dogs that frequently threaten, growl, fight and bite are often assumed to be “alpha” animals. Not so Joe! The above assumptions are quite awry. Not only do they betray a theoretically simplistic view of a most sophisticated social structure but also, such notions tend to be…

BORZOI!!!
They looked into the Gentle Giants rescue since they live in the neighboring town, but I think it was too expensive ($900 for a rescue!)
So my stepdad through some other website found one in a shelter a couple towns away. She's 6 years old and her owner was ill or getting too old to give her the care she needed.
Heeeeere's Katrina!!!…

I barely remember staying at the farm and playing with all my brothers and sisters. But every now and then I'll hear the puppies next door cry and it gets me all excited and I just want to PLAY!
My new mama and papa are real nice...they take good care of me! They are trying to teach me all these new things...but sometimes my little puppy brain gets overloaded and I just have to PLAY!
I've learned "Come" and "Sit" and now they keep telling me these new words..."Off" and…

Sophie is now at 4 1/2 months, 26 lbs. and continues to steal our hearts! In the short time we have had her she continues to amaze us. One of our favorite and comical 'talents' she posesses is playing with multiple toys at once. She will have a toy in her mouth while chasing a ball on the floor and then stopping to pick up another toy to add to the mix. All toys will eventually be carried in the mouth while she plays equally with the ones on the floor. It really is comical. She also has a nasty…

Thursday was Willson's last puppy class and he got a Medal for the Most Improved Dog, I didn't realize he wasn't well behaved I thought he was, anyway he also got a medal for his trick, which was turning in a circle, shake, sit, then taking his treat very carefully from me.
He got a stuffed animal in the shape of a moon, when we came home he had to take it outside,he left it their, so I bought it in the house, he took it out I found that to be very hysterical, when Paul came home I told…

My husband just e-mailed the following pictures with the subject that said, "some special puppies..." Of course I e-mailed him back like a mad woman and asked if they were OUR puppies?! He replied, "They very will might be OUR puppies...one of them anyway!" :) After some more prodding on my part, I learned that our litter is comprised of 5 males and 2 females. Since we have our heart set on a male (that we will be naming Oliver), we'll be getting one of the little boys in the top photo! Ahh!…

Explanation of racecar photos - When my husband retired, he decide to follow a passion for fast cars and data analysis. His latest raceteam is part of the Koni Series. The owner is a dog lover. The car is covered with dog bones. It costs 20.00 to buy one and put your dog's name on it. That's why Log Cabin Lucy is now on the race track. All proceeds are donated to a canine charity.
Attitude - Lucy is going through a bit of as rebellious stage. Her trainer says she is "giving me sass."…

Our Dog Park's Grand Opening was THIS past Saturday. Started with the 2nd Annual Dog Stampede and we all walked from one end of the people park all the way to the Dog Park. We now have a 2 acre area that is really nice!

Yesterday my son met this chubby little pug on the way home from the school bus. Since he’s a dog loving kid, the pug naturally followed him home. Mr. Pug wasn’t wearing a collar, and even though he was really friendly, he also seemed pretty agitated and confused. We gave him some water and food, which he gulped down in three seconds. Then started the search for Mr. Pug’s owner, I put him on a leash after he’d calmed down, and started ringing door bells in our neighborhood thinking he was…

We met this strange person at the park today. He was carrying a folded up umbrella which he held out from his body like a sword. Mom steered us in a big circle around him, but he called her over, so she had to go talk to him. I didn’t like him at all. I thought he might hit us with that umbrella, so I hid behind my Mom, while Lilo growled a bit. The guy told my Mom that he carried the umbrella in case a dog would attack him. Who would be stupid enough to do that? Mom told him we were not…

Morning light paints the nursery buttery yellow.
One week old puppies sunbathe in the warmth, suckling Glory's milk.
I sit in the whelping box
touching silky heads the color of butterscotch,
and thank God for their lives and mine
awash in contentment.

Hi there, I bought my baby 3 years ago from a breeder in Coboconk, Ontario, Canada. And I was wondering if there were other doodles on this site from the same breeder. Her name was Susan Taggart. At the time that I got Haylie, she had a standard poodle stud called "kawartha Lakes Coby".

Earlier this year we took Rusty to the vet because he had hurt himself when he jumped straight up in the air after a fly. After Xrays and some painkillers we had a good talk to the vet and he told us Rusty had Arthritis in his spine and it was fusing and my husband asked if Rusty could have a good life with this condition. Well he blue up and talked about irresponible pet owners who wanted their pet put down for the wrong reasons. We assured him this was last thing we wanted to do, he calmed…
