Penny is one year old today!

Hi everyone

This is the first time I've posted since January 1st....Sheesh! I've been a little busy and not really had the time, my apologies, but it's Penny's first birthday today so thought I'd better step up. 37 (and a bit) weeks old, and 29 (and a bit) weeks in!

Happy New Year everyone! Penny finally got her first taste (literally) of snow last Tuesday. When she first went out in it, she wasn't as giddy as I've seen lots of dogs in the past, it was snowing great big flakes and she just took it in her stride as if she'd seen it all before. It wasn't until the next morning after we'd had an inch or two that she really got to work, grabbing her favorite punctured ball and zooming round the back yard...eventually I managed to get some pix:… Continue

36 weeks old, and 28 weeks in!

This will probably my shortest blog ever! As we ready for Christmas, just thought I'd add a short note thanking everyone who invited me to join one of the Christmas Card groups. I joined Group B, and even though I was reluctant at first, it really was a lot of fun looking forward to getting pix of Doodles every day in the mail, then covering the wall with them...we actually look like we know a few people now...hee hee!

30 weeks old, and 22 weeks in!

I’m baaaack!

I thank everyone for sending messages saying that you’re missing my blogs. Rest assured I haven’t given up on you, me or Penny. Coupled with the fact that she’s a little more grown up, and not discovering something new every day, and it’s now the rainy season here, there hasn’t been a lot to report, so it’s gonna be a few weeks between blogs from now on.

27 weeks old, and 19 weeks in!

27 weeks? That means that Penny is now six months and one week old! I always thought that six months was a milestone in a dog and owner’s relationship, but it came and went virtually unnoticed. For those of you who read my last post a couple of weeks ago, you may remember that I said Penny is so much calmer now and generally well behaved, almost as if she has grown up...BOY WAS I WRONG!

25 weeks old, and 17 weeks in!

Well how about that, after all the calls of "don't stop the weekly blogs", I then miss two installments and nobody says anything..ha!

I'm back, but I will definitely only be posting sporadically from now on, possibly monthly, but who knows? 22 weeks old, and 14 weeks in!

It's that time of the week again folks!

Penny has had her surgery for the spaying and removal of her dew claws, and she is very well. No trauma whatsoever!

On Monday, I decided it would be a good idea to give Penny a bath as I knew it would be a couple of weeks before we could give her one, see below:

21 weeks old, and 13 weeks in!

Yesterday Penny went back to the Happy Puppy Park day care for a half-day romp with the pack. 9am to 1pm, ten bucks! It don’t get much better than that! When we went to pick her up, on entering the compound, we were immediately surrounded by approximately 30 dogs. Neither Jeri or I payed any attention to them as we walked in, we’ve watched the Dog Whisperer enough to know that. 20 weeks old, and 12 weeks in!

Penny has been with us for 12 weeks already? Sheesh! Doesn’t seem that long, although sometimes it feels like she’s been part of the family forever, a contradiction I know, but hey you know what I mean. Last week I mentioned that in puppy obedience class we learned a new way (well new to me) of training your dog to walk on the leash without pulling, by letting the leash out and when she starts to pull, you stop until the leash slackens then walk on...kinda works, but kinda doesn’t too. Are weeks getting shorter?

Hi everyone. So here we are again, Penny had her second obedience class last night. Jeri came with me this time (I think she just wanted to see if I was exaggerating about how well behaved Penny was last week...shhhh!. That's between you and me). Hi everyone, and a special "Hi" to all Penny's fans who were dismayed at my announcement to discontinue the weekly blogs. 17 weeks old, and 9 weeks in!

I've posted this week's blog a little later than usual because I enrolled Penny in puppy training classes at Pet Smart, 4.30pm Wednesday, and was hoping to report on that this week, but it kinda didn't work out. Penny and I turned up on time, nervous of course, as anyone is for their first day at school. 16 weeks old, and 8 weeks in!

Hi folks!

Well Penny's been with us now for half her life so far, probably doesn't remember her mom or siblings anymore, not that I'm gonna ask her...ha ha! Would she give me a straight answer anyway?

The allergies seem to have gone away, changing her food worked totally, she was so much better almost immediately, and now a week later, doesn't scratch anymore than other dog does from day to day...what a relief. Glad the cure was so simple.

15 weeks old, and 7 weeks in!

What a week! I promised that I'd be taking some action shots of Penny this week....wrong, wrong, wrong! We're currently experiencing record temperatures here in the Pacific North West, 106 yesterday, with a forecast of 107 today....Phoenix we're not! Penny hates the hot weather, and subsequently hasn't done a lot of moving about, thank goodness for air conditioning, and I pity the so many folks up here who don't have it....Sheesh! Michael Vick...Grrrr!

Even though I'm a Brit, I'm a big fan of what you Americans mistakenly call Football. I hear today that Michael Vick has been reinstated by the NFL. I'm just hoping that no team picks up that bastard, what he did is unforgivable, and the punishment, as usual for animal abuse, wasn't nearly enough!....Those poor Pit Bulls!...I say again...UNFORGIVABLE!

Been having a bit of a guilt trip this week...after years with our cats being the center of our attention, bringing Penny into the family has altered their life substantially. They are no longer free to be wherever they want in the house, and to do what they please without having a big dopey puppy in their face, and I kinda feel sorry for them. 13 weeks old, 5 weeks in!

It's official! Penny now has her first nickname....Fuzzlump! Kinda rolls off the tongue doesn't it?..."Come on Fuzzlump!"

We seem to have reached some major milestones this last week....certain things have seemed to 'click' with her. She now goes to the door when she needs to go out, no accidents at all for days, takes the pressure of the constant vigilance looking for those tell-tale signs. 12 weeks old and 4 weeks in!

Hi everyone!

Penny had her 2nd set of shots on Tuesday and is in the best of health, gaining in weight from 11lbs three weeks ago, to 17lbs now....what a moose!

Walking her on the leash is still going well, but she's now trying to assert herself more, and I'm having to check her a lot more, but that's to be expected as she gains in confidence. I'm still in charge though, and she knows it...most of the time.

11 weeks old and 3 weeks in!

Hi everyone. What can I say? Penny is definitely part of the family now...as she should be, considering how much of my time she occupies when she's awake...which is a lot! I've had work in this week too, talk about time management!

I bought one of those one piece slip collars and leashes the other day, and Penny quickly "got it!", she walks even better now. About every other day, one neighbor or another comes out when we're walking asking what breed she is, and commenting on how well… Continue

10 weeks old and 2 weeks in!

Penny has been with us now for 2 whole weeks, and seems to be growing at an alarming rate. Actually alarming is too strong a word, as we don't care how big she grows, maybe I should say one helluva rate.
