I get my first doodle pup in April. have been reading and watching everything I can on training-so afraid I will not do it right. My breeder suggested The Monks of  New Skete. I am fascinated by the book. I want to try and follow their method.BUT, I am a softie and afraid the pup will rule me.

Kathy, you truly are a doodle whisperer!

I had my best "whisper" going on while feeding 6 dogs. 5 granddogs with my precious Buster in the middle. I fed them in age order so that the young ones will give the older ones due respect!

Thank you all for your advice.  We are slowly figuring all this out.  We had a really good week this past week.  I feel like I am understanding Bailey's signals more and more each day.  I am looking forward to school starting and getting into a routine again.  It will be good for all of us!

Lynette I suggest you post your questions as a discussion in the Training Group as this seems to be a training issue and you can get good advice there. Here is the link:

I watch the Dog Whisperer"  and have learned a lot from his program. Shea still greets badly. He loves other dogs and all the ones in the neighborhood are the size of my foot. Shea's head is larger and he wants to jump and play and it scares the little dogs to death. He has just enough poodle in him to let him jump real high.He is now in obedience class and I hope this takes care of it. Any help out there? Anyone having this problem????

Also, you must use an odor neutralizer like Nature's Miracle on the places where he has the accidents, not just cleaners. You may not be able to smell anything, but he can, and he will keep returning to a spot where he smells urine.

You have to catch him in the act of having an accident and correct him verbally immediately, then take him outside and if he goes there, praise him to the moon.

This is how he gets the idea, "Peepee outside is good, peepee inside is not good". You can't correct him for a mistake after the fact.

He holds it longer at night because he's not moving around. Just like people. Most of us "hold it" all night while we are asleep, but very few of us go 7 or 8 hours during the day without visiting the bathroom, lol.
