A Beautiful Mind?

Our backyard and driveway are on a slight slant. The front of the yard and driveway are uphill and the back is downhill. When I play fetch with Penny everyday, I stand down at the bottom of the driveway and throw the ball up the driveway where Penny fetches the ball, and happily brings it back to me...or she used to, until she got smart. Now this takes some serious thought; I'm not even sure I would have thought of it. LOL! When I throw the ball, she retrieves it and instead of bringing the… Continue

I'm supposed to be Mowgli's boss but I think he's mine.....

Hi everyone! I'm just beginning my doodle journey. I think Mowgli is part Tigger, he's so full of joy and BOUNCE. He is so happy all the time I would very much like to have a sample of whatever he's taking. Yesterday we went to the groomer for a brush and bath, he's only been once before, but he greeted them like he had known them in another lifetime. They love him there. When I try to explain that that much joy can be exhausting they just look at me like I'm a sourpuss. Whatever. Sometimes…

Adventures With Molly: We Survived the 1st Month

For this blog entry I just wanted to list reasons why DK is so great.  I thought this would sum up our first month of dealing with all of the puppy craziness.

I have learned a few things...

1)  Giardia will not ruin your first few weeks home with your new puppy.  Panacur works.  I don't think I have ever been as excited to get the test results of a stool sample before.

2)  Two words:  Snuggle Puppy.  Not trying to sound like the mom who says her baby is sleeping…

A Toothache, A Generator, and Two Doodles!

When we were looking for houses to buy, one of the questions I asked was, “how often does the power go out?”  Most people do not think twice about lost power, but I am not most people.  Our house in Pennsylvania lost power, it seemed to me, during almost any major weather event.  Usually, the power company had to come out and do something to a breaker box on our street, but I always swore we were last on their list because sometimes it took days for that to happen.  Power would be on all…

Snow Doodle

Three years ago on Palm Sunday, we had a very heavy wet snow. I have absolutely no recollection of this whatsoever. I take photos of everything but I don't have any pictures of the snow 3 years ago (but I have some photos off my mom's camera). It as 6-10" deep (depending where you lived). I told my husband (who doesn't remember that snowfall either) that we must have been off the planet that day. Fast forward to today, Palm Sunday 2016. It's snowing again. And this time I have the pleasure of… Continue

Murphy is FAT! 2 Week Diet update.

I can hardly believe how this happened....I kept thinking there is no way I would have allowed my dog to get fat. It must be DHs fault.

I took Murphy in for his yearly check up and vaccinations and he has ALWAYS been between 60-64 pds MAX!  He was a whopping 70.5 pds. I even had to take his harness off, like we take our shoes off when being weighed at the doctors!

I have always prided myself on keeping my guys fit, lean, active, well fed with 5 star kibble, homemade meals and…

"Sheep-shearing" day in the valley

Sometimes all that fleecy fuzz is too much and out come the scissors. Yes, we get her professionally groomed every 6 weeks and yes, we are so grateful that she doesn't shed.....but it was time for a trim. Ruby stood still while we snipped her legs and tail with…

Doodle Kisses (I wonder where I got that name)

Penny is "known" for her hugs and kisses. Yet, if she's not in the mood, forget about it. Yesterday, though, she was extremely affectionate. I'm not sure what brought on this love-fest but she was very loving the whole day long. Last evening she even jumped onto our laps while we were watching TV. Penny is getting bigger so once on our lap, we were stuck in the chair. If we had to use the restroom-- well too bad! DH and I wear glasses, so after the "Doodle Hugs and Kisses" our glasses have… Continue

Stick to the Routine, Please!

On most nights you will find me in my bedroom watching TV. Since John and I don’t really like the same shows, he watches TV in the living room in the evenings and I go back in our bedroom.  Fudge usually starts herding me into the bedroom around 8 pm and makes it known that it is her bedtime and she needs her beauty rest.  I pride myself on the fact that my dogs have a pretty good routine, but sometimes that comes back to bite me in the “you know what” when things get changed up.  On the few…

"Franc" update! Our (new) love is here to stay

As Ella and Louie so beautifully sang:
Its very clear, our love is here to stay

Not for a year, but forever and a day

The radio and the telephone,

And the movies that we know

May just be passing fancies

And in time may go
But, oh my dear

Our love is here to stay

Together we're going a long long way

In time the…

A Trip to the Park

This didn't start out good. In the car, on the way to the park, Penny felt compelled to sit on my lap (she usually is very good in the car). This is a tad difficult when I'm driving! I usually put our dogs in the backseat. Penny wouldn't have any of that. I should have taken this as a sign and turned around and gone home. Penny has been walking on a leash/harness (Easy Walk) in our neighborhood just fine. So I thought it was time to "graduate" to a park. Big mistake! Between the other dogs… Continue

Anticipation

So, my daughter has been asking for a new dog for a couple of years now and I think she is now old enough to assume some of the responsibility. (She'll be 7 and is very motherly).  So we have a crate, a pen, a dog walker, toys, a vet appointment, and we picked the perfect puppy (of course!).  Lily is calm and our breeder (who breeds many service dogs) says that her temperament is great for service.  We pick her up on Friday.  I know this is about to mean more middle of the night wake ups,…
