Update On The Dog Downstairs...

Hey, some of you may remember my post about the dog that was howling and crying on the porch in the apartment below me. Well, it stopped for a couple of weeks but just started up again today. It has reminded me that I never updated you guys on what I found out. After leaving notes we finally talked to the guy, and found out that it was happening because the dog is/was in heat. (not sure if she still is and that is why the whining has started up again)

He has two dogs. A Husky…

I'm Leaving My Doods In the Capable Hands of DH And My DK Girlfriends

Tomorrow morning I'm heading to Atlanta for my nephew's graduation from Army Boot Camp.  I have always been particularly close to this nephew, and he really wants me to come.  The thing is.....I have to leave my guys until late Friday night.  I will be really, really worried about them.  I know that my DH will take great care of them....and I've home cooked enough food until Saturday.....but still.  So, I told my husband that if there are any problems he can either call the Vet or get right on… Continue

What a rescue can accomplish...(crosspost from DRC)

What a rescue can accomplish…

Both our boys, Clifford and Cloud, are rescues.  Clifford came to us 13 months ago at the age of 10 months, he was found abandoned by Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit and was naturally afraid of cars as I’m sure he spent time dodging them before being rescued.  Cloud found his way to our home and hearts 6 months ago at the age of 2 years, after being found as a stray by animal control.  Cloud was afraid of anything we carried yet after some practice he… Continue

Lola's unlucky streak....

So as some of you know, Lola had the absolute worst ear infection of her life a month or two....or three ago. Had re-check with vet yesterday, and of course, it's still there. Well the ear infection seems to be gone, but she's producing an abnormal amount of ear wax. So we're on a new ear cocktail now....I HOPPPPE this works. Her next appt isn't for another month, and if there's still a problem, I don't know what we'll do. It'll be over 4 months at that point. Our vet even apologized and said… Continue

Should I Have Raised Labradoodles Instead of Daughters?

My daughter moves to Oregon tomorrow. We live in Pennsylvania. I have been alternating between feeling sad and mad about this since she gave me the news. My best friend said she knew I was upset when I lost my sense of humor. I blame myself and my husband. We were stupid. All the while our kids were growing up, we told them they could do anything and be anything. What we should have said is, “You can be anything and do anything within a 100 mile radius of your parents.  If it is…

Submissive acts do not always go your way.

Went to the small dog park today.  He met his match.  He and a young lab pup met up (about the same size), and lab pup had sooo much energy and power.  Riley, thought he would be submissive.  He rolled on his back, and the pup proceeded to wrestle and tumble with him.  Riley figured it was time to get out of Dodge, and out ran him.  Hopefully, he learned a little lesson today. Better to run when you have a more powerfull playmate.  Get your licks in on the run.

How could anyone kill a four year old doodle?

We are fostering Sophie who is a beautiful, well-trained and loving labradoodle who will not turn four years old until near the end of July.  Sophie developed bladder stones and her owners dropped her off at a vet and told him to put her down because they dis not want to pay for her surgery.  Doodle rescue Consortium, Inc. paid for the surgery and we are fostering this darling girl until she is well enough to go to her "furever" home.…

3 Days of Uncontrolled Chaos...The Doods Are Exhausted!

We're just back from spending three days at the beach with the kids and six grandkids.  We broke all records for chaos.  What amazes me is how well my Doods handled the whole thing....way better than their Mom.  The house is right on the water and the other beach houses are very close together.  Everyone has kids and multiple dogs and cats....and they roam free.  There are no "leash rules" at the beach...actually there are no rules whatsoever at the beach.  There's a little beach store right…

Recovery Day 9, 10, & 11

Day 9

Every day keeps getting better and better.  We are finally seeing a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.  Remington is having regular bowel movements now for the most part.  He is not having normal size ones, but I'm hoping that will come with time and they will get better when we change back to his regular food and are done with this soft stuff.  I definitely do not like canned food!

The razor burns are 10 times better than what they were.  Both… Continue

Do it while you're young---travel, that is.

I recently returned from Italy and I'm hoping someday to return to normal in terms of mental functioning and sleeping. It is six hours later there than here. The flights were good and on time! The weather was great except for half of one day. The scenes are quaint and beautiful and impressive...The people are lovely except when they're driving. We had some wonderful meals. Good desserts! Overall it was a good trip but...

Biggest mistake, we had no GPS or city map until we were in the…

Sophie Bear Pooped in Bed!

Ok, I posted this this morning in the food group, but after reading Jennifer and Jack's post about gratitude I've calmed down a bit and I can see the humour in the situation afterall, even though it's now 7:30 and the poop smell still lingers. I thought I'd share it in my blog so everyone can get a kick out of it.

....

Just when I thought things were looking up, Sophie did something she's never done before. She pooped in…

I am so blissfully happy!!!

It has been a long road for me the past several years, I lost someone I loved dearly to a horrible lung disease, I actually held his hand and watched him take his last breath, and a few months later, I lost another best friend to the same disease,  I moved out of my home state to a state virtually with only knowing one family that is only here part time at best. I have had to give up my job for the most part, my health has nose dived dramatically and to boot my closest friend down here, a…

Why I Haven't Been Around Much

To all my Doodle friends I just want you all to know how much of an emotional escape Doodle Kisses has been for me the last almost three weeks.  You have no idea how much it helped me get through some bad times by just taking a few minutes to read all the comments.

My mother would have been 90 this September.  Over the last 5 years she developed Type 2 Diabetes, Dementia, could not walk and became incontinent.  We had three wonderful girls who took care of her in her home…

I hesitate to say it . . . .

but if the shoe fits - Rooney is a traitor.  My velcro puppy.  How can this be?  Rooney and I had gone to the airport to pick up my daughter who is here for the holiday.  Roo is always a wagging machine when dh comes home from NYC but what he proceeded to do when dd got in the puppy hauler - OMG!  He wasn't just wagging, he was shaking from head to tail while trying to wag - I've never seen him do anything like that!  He was trying to climb out of his car seat and having a total melt down. …

Recovery Day 6, 7, & 8

Day 6

Things are slowly but surely getting better for Remington.  He had only been having like 1-2 inch poos, but this morning he had a nice normal 6 inch one.  (Sorry if I gross you out with his bowel movement updates, but they are important!) We have been letting him be without his cone when he is on the bed with us, but when we are sleeping or any other time the cone stays on.  He seems to enjoy the moments that he is cone free!  He still is not drinking water… Continue

Rusty continues to do well!

On our last visit with Dr. Macy, all test results were normal with the exception of the same liver enzymes which are still elevated! Dr. Macy does not think that it is necessary to pursue the causes of the elevated liver issues unless something changes. During the period of Rusty's digestive problems, Dr. Macy ran several tests on him including abdominal scans, which were normal. None of the tests identified any causes of his intestinal distress; Dr. Macy thinks that it is probably the result… Continue

Nothing to do with doodles...crime and punishment.

I worked ( In a process of quitting this job ) as a chemical dependency therapist for the people in a halfway house, probation or pre-trial, with drug and alcohol dependency. I was a bit scared when I first got this gig.....

Today was a sentencing hearing for one of my client. He is in early 20's, I beleive he was in special ed as a student. He sold cocain to support his habit, also to have friends and social status.

On the flip side, he was the most punctual, respectful and…

Help the Animal Victims of Joplin, MO!

This is heartbreaking but we can't forget the canine and feline victims of the recent tornado in Joplin, MO.  Here is a link to The Humane Society of Joplin, Mo http://www.joplinhumane.org/  If you can even donate $10 every cent will count.  There are so many that are now lost from their families.

Fudge Tries Volunteering!!!

When we first got Fudge and she was still a little puppy, I had big dreams of volunteering with her at the Assisted Living Facility where I volunteer. The breeder assured me she was the calmest dog in the litter, and if by calm she meant reactive to every living thing that moves, then I would agree. Before I got too carried away, I decided to take her over to the Assisted Living place and see how she did.  My good friend is the receptionist there and calls herself…
