I couldn't stand the cone on Finn anymore. He was miserable and so was I so I got a pair of my grandson's underwear and put them on him. I had done this with Yankee before so I knew it would work. I wasn't sure that Finn would keep them on because he is a feisty little guy. Well he is keeping them on during the day but for the last 2 mornings we found the underwear on the floor. I find it very funny but I guess Finn likes to sleep commando.
Last night I found a small bump on his side…

Sir Riley, (as he is the king of the roost) weighed in at 21.9 @ 6 months. Got his rabies shot this morning, missed the first 15 minutes of the Texas/OU game. Texas won all that matters. Checked with breeder, she said he should have his height now (15inches), but will fill out more thru the chest and rear. So hopefully he will be in the neighborhood of 25 pounds grown. My wife wanted him to stop growing some time ago.
It is getting into our wet and cold season here in Portland. My…

Holly doesn't do well in the heat so we got her a cool coat:

It's a fairly hot October day and we are having a family outing in a park where the projected temperature will be 77 degrees. We are bringing Holly's cool coat to see how well it does in moderately warm temperatures. We still don't plan to have her out in really hot temperatures.
I placed a photo of Holly in her coat on my…

Chase had his first hiarcut today!! His coat was lovely, but was gettting to be such a challenge keeping it mat free. After much persuading, my husband agreed to let me get him clipped. After talking with the groomer, we decided it would be good if we could get away with having him done twice a year - great. But, this means taking him right down!! He looks so funny!! I asked her not to…

Holly's groomer called to say that she had a cancellation which opened a spot for Holly today. After her trip to the beauty parlor, we took her to the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch in Valley Center, CA to shoot some pictures which I posted tonight.

YES!! FIRST PUPPY CLASS WENT SO WELL! I was nervous because Bentley behaves very well during our training at home, but struggles with distractions in public places. His puppy class was small, but there were plenty of distractions. He did the best of the class this week (I'm sure next week will be a different story), probably because of all the time we spend training at home (and the yummy turkey dogs and string cheese his instructor supplied us with for treats!). The instructor was even using…

DH and I took Harlow with to visit his mother last weekend. She has always had toy poodles, but is now too frail to have a ‘full time pet’ and has not had a dog after her last poodle passed 4+ years ago. MIL had been asking about Harlow ever since we got her. Harlow was wonderful. She was very calm and gentle around grandma. She wanted to lie next to grandma's chair the whole time we visited. My MIL was so tickled; she kept petting Harlow and giggled when Harlow gently reached up to give her a…

We took Holly for some photos to Canterbury Gardens which is a lovely holiday oriented store in Escondido, CA. I contacted the manager the previous day to get permission and he asked me to come right after the store opened but, before there were a lot of customers. As usual, Holly was her cooperative self but, she must have been stressed out a bit because she had her tongue out the entire time. Oh well, all dogs have tongues and sometimes they stick out.
Unfortunately, we forgot the…

Hi All, I just thought this was cute :-) I ran across it because I get Perez Hilton's celebrity gossip email everyday. It caught my attention because he had this super cute Marc Jacobs shirt on with what looked like a Goldendoodle - and guess what? It was! I never realized that his oh so famous "Teddy Hilton" was a Min Goldendoodle - how did I miss that? I am a total celebrity gossip junky! LOL
Here is the link to some more celebrities and a picture of Perez in the Marc Jacobs shirt.…

I was thinking this morning about how different life is with Guinness now that he's through the young puppy stage. I thought it might give hope to all the new puppy moms and dads who are wondering when they'll get their lives back. I remember times a few months ago when I felt like taking care of our doodle pup was a full time job...and it seemed like I was always worried about something. Things are different now, and in many ways I'm different too. At seven months, we have him on a great potty…

Today, as I was preparing dinner, and assuming the tears for the day were done, I opened the mail. Inside a large envelope was another smaller envelope and a piece of white paper. On the lower left hand corner of the most wonderful black paw print ! I just started bawling. I opened the small envelope there was a sympathy card from my vet with a beautiful note. I was also informed that my vet had taken a paw impression when they put the catheter in his leg on Saturday, and it was ready to be…

Tonight, I witnessed a very scary situation. My 4 yr old healthy goldendoodle Sophie had a Grand Mal seizure - it lasted for 5 minutes with a 10 minute calm period afterwards. I got her to our vets and she had bloodwork done - results to come tomorrow morning. I was asked by our vet if Sophie had eaten anything out of the ordinary and there was nothing that really stuck out in my mind, except that we have a grapevine on our back fence and she and our other doodle Guinness are always pulling…

I have put alot of thought into how to handle our oldest dogs passing when it happens. She is 16 in March. She is doing well but as she ages I know the inevitable will happen.
Our cat is still with us in my sons room cremated. My other cat my other son felt the vet disposing of her was what he wanted. The other cats and various were buried on our farm we are no longer on.
I do like the pendant idea, that would be an option.
The question I had is has anyone ever thought of…

Tonight we concentrated on the "Leave It!" command. We started off with easy stuff and progressed to the point where if the instructor would offer a treat and we would give the command, "Leave it!" the dog would turn away from the treat. Holly did very well at that.
The command is designed for rest homes or skilled nursing facilities where there might be a pill on the floor for the dog to grab.
We ended the night with the dogs walking through a "mine field" with treats all…

Well Finn made it through his neutering just fine. His baby teeth actually fell out on their own over the weekend so no teeth pulled. The vet tech told me that he would probably sleep most of the evening but NO such luck. He hasn't slept a wink and has been home for 6 hours. I can't get him to settle down. Yankee isn't helping one bit. He is trying to coax Finn into playing and I keep reprimanding him to no avail.
I foolishly thought Yankee would sense that Finn wasn't up to snuff…

Hi All ~
I just wanted to thank all of you for your kind words, reassurance and prayers. I haven't been able to respond in a timely manner because I can only get through typing one sentence at a time before the tears cloud my vision. I knew it would be hard, but not this hard. What makes it even worse is seeing my 11 year old son struggle with it. Hopefully once we pick up Boomers ashes, it will give him some comfort.
We took the prayer that Adrianne sent us when we went…

Huge sign of relief here...the vet just called and Bentley's neutering went well..he said he is "recovering quietly in his kennel right now" They microchipped and finished his puppy vaccines while he was still under anesthesia (my dog is a huge baby..and cries for like 10 minutes after each shot..it's sad, really..). It ended up being quite expensive ($340!)...but could've been alot worse..got a discount since I've gone to same vet for all puppy visits, etc. Cost me an extra $45 for…
