Last night Holly completed her first session at her Therapy Dog indoctrination class and she did very well. This was marvelous socialization for Holly. There were ten dogs with their owners and three instructors. Usually, the class has five instructors so there is a one instructor to two dog ratio but, two of the usual instructors were at a conference out of town. The dogs ranged in size from a miniature doxie up to a goldendoodle twice Holly's size. Big Boomer was 112 pounds while Holly is…

I have been researching dog foods, for about the 10th time, as I want to feed my one year old doodle and her older sister (who has medical problems) the best food that I can get them conveniently. Does anyone have any experience with Blue Buffalo food? I have been reading comments about it and found that I can get it at my local Pet Smart. I had been mixing Innova (which is not as easy to get) with Purina Pro Plan Select (because I had a bunch of $10. off coupons that we won at a dog fair). The…

I thought there was only one place in my whole yard that Riley could get dirty. That is my half wine barrel with a bamboo plant in it. Well, I now know now there is a second place. The grand kids have a sandbox with a cover over it. The kids piled rocks on it, and with the recent rain made a rock pool (dirty). Three days after his bath Riley got on top of the cover and proceeded to dig. He was dirty from head to toe. I got home from work, and the first thing my wife said to me was " You are not…

I have a black glow-in-the-dark skeleton shirt that I received as a hand-me-down from another family dog, and it fits Muppet great. And since he is a puppy, it is nice there is nothing for him to chew on (or chew off!). We have a family Halloween party the third week of October, so I'll probably have pictures to share.

He loves it..and was prancing around with it on...as an afterthought, I got some pictures...the head piece is a bit big..will have to alter it..…

Well, we just got back from obedience class # 2 and Sable did really well! Her tough points were "come close" (the heel position) and not jumping on people when they approached. She did come, sit, down, stay all very well though! I was so proud of her. She did get a little stubborn on the "come" part and stayed in the sit position, refusing to move forward, Peg, the trainer said, "That's a little bit of the poodle in her coming out." So we tried a "gentle tugging" of the lead as opposed to a…

Lucy, you have some splain'n to do >:-(
I was in the living room and suddenly heard a very LOUD crash (glass breaking) I found one of my dining room windows lookinig like the pics below and Lucy standing there beside a chair that was lying on the floor. All I can figure is she got up on the chair to look out the window, which she does not need to do, and the chair tipped over, hitting the window. It is a dual pane window so the inside pane is broken. I am just glad she did not get cut.…

Yesterday we were out and about with Webster (6 month chocolate gd) along for the ride. We drive a Windstar minivan and Webster thinks his place is standing at our shoulders with front feet on the center console. My hubby, Andrew, was driving when he gave a funny sounding chuckle. I looked over and saw Webster grooming/nibbling up and down Andrew's arm and shoulder. Webster was quite serious about what he was doing and continued for what seemed like several minutes. Once he decided his job was…

The man who was going to adopt Sweetie changed his mind for some unknown reason. However, Judy and I have decided to make our home a forever home for Sweetie. We love her and she is happy with us; we do not ever want her abandoned again! Both her puppies are gone to their new homes and Sweetie is staying with us.

I took Finn for a grooming. I'm OK with the body but his head looks gargantuous. They left it all poofy. His head doesn't look right on his body. I may try to fix it or take him back. What I did notice was that he has a ton of colours in his coat. His head is red with blond highlights on his face. His body is chocolate and his tail is chocolate with blond highlights.
The groomer said he was starting to grow his winter adult coat but I thought it was too soon for that. He is only 5…

Wow, is there a rule posted in the Doodle Book of Rules that says 'Thou shalt start blowing puppy coat and mat'? The day Harlow hit 8 months it was like instant matting. I have been brushing her every other day. I finally had to convert to the thinning shears and comb. Her ears were the worst. It took me quite a while to work through the mats. We had to take a play break after each ear. I swear I got enough hair from her ears to probably assemble a small cat.
We kept taking a play…

Has anyone heard you're NOT suppose to cut a DG's hair the first year? Gracie is going through some coat changes and has long and short hair. I've thought of trimming her coat "some", but really hate to cut her "puppy hair" off. I''m not sure what to do...HELP PLEASE :)

Please read!!!
If you are an owner of a dog that belongs to a 'dangerous breed' category and you also have a small child please take this as a warning. Don't leave your dog with the child unattended under any circumstances.
Only a little moment was enough for the following to happen. See the photo attached .....

Wilson enjoyed really enjoyed having Karen home for the weekend He slept in her room which he isn't allowed to do he normally sleeps downstairs, well he shared his body warmth with Katie (Karen's roommate) and with Karen, He went everywhere the girls went even watched them do their hair and make up this morning. So when we went to the grocery store he came along for the car ride, And when Karen was ready to leave he jumped into the car, so Karen took him for a ride around the block, now he is…

Well here it is the first morning with our highly anticipated Goldendoodle. We have been looking for months and dooing a lot of praying. After a lot of research we (myself and my 8 year old) new it was a goldendoodle we wanted. The price however we didn't want. I kept thinking it would never be a reality until we found our breeder. There are few breeders that I found here in Oklahoma and most would not allow us to visit the property or the animal until after purchased. My problem however is I…

Well fall is here, and has been very cool here in Portland the last couple of days. I plan on bathing Riley tomorrow as it is supposed to be nice. I have to post this, as I need the prompts to go ahead with the project. Want to get a picture of him all soaked, as he really looks like a wet chihuahua. My wife went to Costco today and brought back a pack of soft dog animals for Riley, he has been working on them non stop since he was given them. Costco employee said that they were flying off the…

Sophie is very curious and thinks that every living creature is alive for her to play with. I had found a couple bees today crawling around in search for warmth. I got rid of them and didn't think much of it. Of course, Sophie saw a bee crawling along the door jam, and was extremely curious. I look over to her snififng around near the sliding glass door, at this point I wasn't really paying attention. Next think I know my dog is freaking out, pawing at her nose and then there is a bee flung to…

Giardia: Well, Sable's poop was still soft, I was afraid she had worms, so I brought a poo sample with me to her last vet visit. We found out the next day that Sable had contracted Giardia, which one usually gets from drinking from stream, ponds, or any standing water, (even a puddle!) Well, I think our hiking extravaganza last weekend is the most likely culprit, oh well, I guess we'll hold off on our next hike until her stomach is a little more, how shall I say, durable? The Vet (Dr. Becky,…

My dogs were in the yard when I began to wonder what they were making such a commotion about. I stepped out to find a friend of mine who'd popped in to visit us so we could meet his Weimaraner. So this Weim is 'sorta' his dog. He and his wife rent a place that doesn't allow dogs but he's always wanted a Weim so he's 'adopted' Jake who lives with someone he knows. He borrows Jake every other day and takes him for runs, hikes, hunting, etc.
Jake spent the first 2 years of his life in a…

Isn't she a cutie :-)
Here are a couple pics of a stray dog that was dropped off near Lucy's groomers yest. When I went to pick her up Debbie, her groomer, said that a young couple stopped there and asked if she would take the dog. As a kennel/groomer she is not allowed, she is not a shelter. 15 mins after they left the dog came to her kennel. They must of went down the road and…
