Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Shadow is my daughter's 14-year old Labrador. The Lab acted as a surrogate mom to our Goldendoodle, Holly, when Holly was a puppy, Here is a YouTube video that my wife did with Shadow and her younger brother, Duke the Mini-Goldendoodle playing in our pool...

Sad but heartwarming story... Toby is a young Cocker Spaniel + Poodle mix who lost his leg as it was shattered beyond repair when Toby was hit by a car. Toby was our foster and we found a wonderful home for him...
Toby's mom has trained him as a therapy dog and they visit our local Children's Hospital as well as working with the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
His mom recounted that…

We are fostering a Maltese puppy who came to us from the San Diego Humane Society at seven days old.
The Humane Society provided us with the milk replacement that they use. It is excellent and surpasses any previous milk replacer we have used.
Of course, mom's milk is the best! However, there are times when a lactating mom is not available. The…

Hopefully this post will find all of you in good health! However, if any of my friends on DK have any serious health problems and/or are contemplating serious (and possibly life changing) surgery, I strongly recommend that you get a second medical opinion before proceeding with that plan of care.
I had serious back problems. My back hurt me so badly that I could not sit up, I had to eat my meals lying down and a car ride was excruciating in the pain that it caused me.
The first…

NOT REALLY FOR HER BIRTHDAY The purchase just happened to coincide closely to her birthday...
AND I REALLY DIDN'T BUY IT FOR HER Although she will benefit from the purchase...
All of our floors are ceramic tile - our rescue dogs are not always house trained so dog proof floors are pretty necessary. We want our home spiffy clean despite our dogs...
We use a Hoover…

We have a food dehydrator and I am using it to prepare healthy and safe chewies for the dogs. My first try was sweet potato chewies. I sliced sweet potatoes about a quarter inch thick and dried them in the dehydrator. The dogs absolutely love these treats.
I have some tuna in my freezer that I caught on fishing trip. I will slice that and make tuna jerky for the dogs. I also plan to make chicken jerky and to dry green beans as treats....
Preparing treats at home is a lot…

Our six chickens live in their own little chicken yard st the corner of our property and the property of three neighbors. The chicken yard has its own fence, so that there are actually two fences that any predator would have to cross before it could get in with the chickens. There are low oak trees surrounding the chicken yard and we have two chicken coops, a canopy and a roofed over area to protect them from hawks.
Today they were making lots of noise. Judy said, "Holly, what's…

The good news is that all ten of this group of dogs we just rescued from the the Korean dog meat market arrived healthy and in good shape. These are three of the five kennels we received...
The bad news is that we are fostering seven of these dogs and there is a leak in the propane pipe from our propane gas tank to the house. That means our water heater is not working - so…

I am usualLy quite understanding of the practices of other cultures. HOWEVER THE KOREAN PRACTICE OF DOG BUTCHERY IS NOTHING BUT BARBAROUS!

We have never been bothered by fleas. Once or twice a year Judy would find a flea on one of our dogs but, we figured that the flea got a ride on the dog someplace other than our home. We got pretty complacent and weren't ready for this years flea infestation.
We have had an influx of squirrels on our property and we think that the fleas came from them!
We have never seen fleas like this. Our poor barn cat had so many fleas that she has become anemic. She is…

We rescued Haley from a Los Angeles shelter where she was in danger of being euthanized "because she was too shy to be adopted". She would cower in back of the pen and never establish contact with prospective adopters. However, she is lively and animated with us and has established a rapport with Judy and I. She seems to love playing with our other foster dogs. She's a great little dog.
She's really a pretty dog and we suspect that she is a poodle mix of some kind. But what kind…

I was expecting to pick up three female Maltese which were surrendered to us from a puppy-mill in Los Angeles on the afternoon of December 31st. While waiting for news from one of our volunteers who was assigned to pick up the three dogs from an L.A. vet where they had been checked and spayed, we got a phone call from a person in Oceanside, a nearby city who had seven dogs that were going to be confiscated by animal control due to the deplorable condition in which they were being…

Pepsi, our poodle-mix foster, who was found with his sister, Cola, in a storm tunnel under 14-lanes of Los Angeles freeway traffic was uneasy around strangers. He had been protecting Cola when they were living in the tunnel and he would barked and growl at strangers. Cola was scared and nervous around strangers.
We began a regimen of clicker training with both dogs and have been very impressed with the results...
Pepsi…

We are lucky in that we don't have a flea problem. However, we have just received four rescue puppies several months old that were absolutely crawling with fleas. Of course we will use Frontline and also Capstar pills.
However, for immediate control using flea spray or flea soap is problematic when intending to use Frontline.
We were advised by a pet supply store owner (who is also a rescue dog person) that she initially bathes her rescue dogs in a solution of Blue Dawn dish…

We microchip all of our rescue dogs and register the microchip with Free Pet Chip Registry https://freepetchipregistry.com/
We use this service because it is (as the name indicates) free. We register the rescue dog in our Maltese Rescue California name, rather that just advise the adopter to register the dog. That way, the new owner can transfer registry to his/her name or if the owner neglects to register the dog, that dog is still…

SEE HOW COOKIE LOVES HER NEW MOBILITY....
Maltese Rescue California - Cookies' Got Wheels. Cookie is one of our recent rescues who is paralyzed in the rear legs. Until now Cookie has been only able to scoot around on her bottom or sometimes her hind legs. With her great attitude, she is full of love and life. With contributions from supporters we were able to purchase Cookie a wheel chair to…

No, not together! Individually, both of these substances seem to have beneficial properties...
This is just an idea... Please don't take my word for this, do some Internet investigation on your own...
Honey, dissolved in warm water with a splash of lemon juice is said to be helpful for the cough of bortadella or kennel cough. I use honey and lemon when I have a cough or sore throat. This doesn't cure the bortadella, it simply soothes the through and reduces…

Her name was Mama Mia and she was my constant and loyal companion for over 13-years who developed a brain lesion very suddenly. She could not stand, foamed at the mouth and did not recognize me! Thankfully she didn't have to suffer long. Judy and I were with her as our vet put her out of her misery.
It's a great loss but, I look around and our rescue dogs and think about all the…
