Little scare! Riley charging downstairs, and piled up at the bottom. He goes to living room, and holds his front leg up. I panic! and rub it: expecting the worst. He is fine and as good as new. Wondering why I notice every little thing that is a concern to him? Really wondering if I was that observant, with my daughters?

Volunteered for some overtime with a Sunday run to Kennewick, Wa. from Portland. With a line rig ( three axle ) tractor/trailer. It was a very long day. Bought a small Costco bed, sorta a small oval deep set bed. Perfect for a seat of car/truck. I threw him up in the bed positioned in co-pilot seat of the big rig. His first time in the noisy and different riding vehicle. He shivered for the first few minutes, but settled down. It was a 10 hour run. We made one stop after 5 hours, he drained his…

Called my sister in law (my groomer) to come over and remove an egg sized mat in Riley's tail. I had tried to brush it out, the more I worked at it the larger it got. Also to cut his large plumed bushy tail down to size while she was at it. Her initial response was, "You got to be kidding"!! She told me in no uncertain terms, that all I have to really brush are his ears and tail. Now you want me to do away with his the bushy tail. What can I say, I am used to a Labrador with no grooming. I…

Took Riley with me this morning on my errands. Bought some live crabs ( they were in a paper bag, inside a plastic bag) and put them down on the floor below where Riley sits. When they moved, completely freaked him out! He was headed outta Dodge to the back seat, he didn't want any part of that scenario. I ended up putting the crab in the back seat, so he would stay in front with me.…

My wife says Sir Riley needs a bath. I haven't done that job yet. But
he has been playing with my daughters golden now for a couple of days as
I am now baby sitting them both.. All my daughters and their husbands
and grandchildren are in Florida now for a couple of weeks at Disney
World Orlando. I was going to give Sir Riley a bath tonight, didn't
work out. I am bringing a dirty dog to Christiana's party. Please forgive.
He
is a unforgiving dynamo in the play…

It is funny, when I am stroking Sir Riley, and I come across a matt and start to separate it a little by hand. He knows the big guns are coming, and wants out of Dodge.

Funny thing happened this morning. I was in the shower, and Riley let
out a strange bark. It wasn't a hurt bark, or I would of torn the
shower curtain down trying to get to him ( wouldn't of been a pretty
sight ). When I was toweled off, went looking for him. Found him in
the back corner of his night crate, and wouldn't come out. I have no
idea what scared him, like I have always said his middle name should be
chicken little.
Just got back from the…

Asked my sister in law to come over and de-matt a blob on one his ears. I mean this started out small, and blossomed into a great big one like over night. She was over today and took care of that issue, and also trimmed his face. His face looks very neat now, but resembles a raccoons face. Instead of a black mask, it is like a light colored mask. Need to take a picture and post to show what I am talking about, maybe tonight or not.

Riley was resting by my wife's feet. Our grandson was jumping over her feet and legs, and was told to stop before landing on Riley. Nate ( grandson ) and Riley are not buds by any stretch of the imagination. Nate bugs Riley from time to time, doesn't do anything to hurt him just things to bug him. My wife said the whole time Riley was watching Nate's every movement. Finally, my wife had to raise her voice and grabbed Nate to make him stop. My wife and daughter both said it was a little…

Went on a long walk Sat. with a Rescue Golden Retriever group. Was about 3.5 miles long. Riley has always been gun shy with strange noises, sounds and new sites/ circumstances. Probably because I do not take him out on leash as much as I should; I really think this walk really helped him. With all the dogs in the walking group and all the bikers, joggers wizing by, new sites and foot traffic: he was getting numb to all the hub-bub half way through the walk. Looking forward to another nice day…

Went on a 3.5 mile walk
with Sir Riley today. Sponsored by Golden Bond, a Golden Retriever
Rescue group, but all dogs were welcome. There were about 18-20 dogs
mostly Goldens. Cars where slowing down and pointing at Riley within
the cluster of goldens. Walk was in Sellwood and went down to Oaks
Bottom and refuge. Very nice day, long walk for Riley and I, but we
really enjoyed it. As I am posting this Riley is asleep… Continue

Well, the trial is over. My daughter came over tonight and picked up Bailey. The project was a success!. They flat tuckered each other out, too no end. My wife loved it, because Riley didn't antagonize the grandchildren when they where over like normal. My biggest concern is keeping up with them for two weeks in June, when everyone is in Florida. Probably will have to get my sister in law to come over daily to let Bailey out for relief, as Bailey doesn't seem to like the dogie door to outside…

Well, my wife is taking all three our three daughters and all our grandchildren to Disney World Florida in June. Leaves me with my one of my daughters pleas of tending to her golden retriever. Not that hot on that scenario!. She brought Bailey over yesterday, as a trial/test of how things will go. At this point, it is a riot. They play so good/hard together, Golden is so good about not crushing the doodle with her paws. They play so hard, that they are panting all the time. I do not exercise…

This is going to be a little redundant. I have mentioned that Riley is very smart ( he is ) and very observant and apprised of all things around him. Basically, he is a chicken shxt, when it comes to being ahead of the curve in checking strange noises and happenings around the house( he is a minus 10 ). He hears the noise, but doesn't want to be a Colombo and check it out. Case in point. This morning, let him out for early am morning duties. Like normal went two feet out of the door stopped…

Well Riley and I finished 6 lessons on agility. He did good for a pup at nine months. Trainer wanted to know what I had planned for the future? Well, I will be going to back to work soon, and can not participate in future training because of time restrictions. I hope to retire in a year, and pick this up again. She gave me quite a few hurdle configurations and scenarios to practice. She said Riley is very good at this age and should do very well later. He has so much energy and smarts, and will…

Was kinda bummed from our Monday session, as the trainer said I need to get him more under control off leash. Actually any control. Point taken. Was leery of our training session today. But Riley came through!! First thing: his first attempt at the tunnel, a mean a long tunnel. He was charging through it bent and beating me to the end. He went back to the finish end of the teeter board exercise, and did that good with quite of bit of bounce/lift on the board. Was introduced to the tire jump. He…

Building Riley a couple of jump hurdles for agility. Had to go into Mollala today to pick up some pieces that just are not stocked locally. I miss timed our adventure, and was 15 min late to our half hour class. Today, was the introduction to the teeter board. I knew this would be a situation for him. He is sooo darn careful and cautious of everything he does. Also did the table, he is good at that as we have done similar at home.
He is so funny, when I let him out of his overnight…

Houdini Dog; Riley can now open doors. Our house is an older vintage with glass door knobs. He jumps up and puts his paws around the door knob and works it back and forth until the door opens. Saw him working at it and using his paws in this holding maneuver, didn't think anything of it. When I yelled at my daughter that she didn't close the door tight, as he hits the door with his body to open it when not latched completely. My daughter said it was shut, so I went back and made sure this time…

Just got back from our first 30 minute agility lesson. Being I went into this basically not knowing what to expect, I sure got a shocking revelation. Seems its more on the handlers to get their moves down correctly; as Riley picked up his end relatively quickly. As I am typing this, I am also thinking about the three moves I am supposed to be proficient on for next class.
There was a miniature poodle that was training just prior to our lesson. I couldn't believe how GREAT she was,…

Have had this week off (Thanksgiving) from work. Promised a lot of my accounts that if I gave Riley a bath, I would bring him by on my day off. I use this as incentive to actually do what I plan to do; instead of procrastinating and not doing anything. Well, bath day yesterday, and we went a calling today. I used this opportunity as a training time also, not having Riley jumping up on people. It went well, at first a lot of correction. After awhile, meeting so many different people he kinda…
