I realized that I never gave the rundown of our two Christmases, similar to the movie Four Christmases but not quite. Jeff and I flew up to New York while Milton was whisked away to Louisiana. We enjoyed equally happy but quite separate vacations. Next year hopefully we will all be together.
In New York, Jeff did a little of this:…

New Year’s Eve was hard on Vern. For the first time ever, he was frightened of the surrounding fireworks and guns going off all around us. I hate to be a party pooper, but when something comes between my sleep and me I think it should be outlawed and the offenders cast off the island. I actually read in the news recently that a costumed nine-year-old girl was accidentally shot by a relative who mistakenly took her for a skunk. Police said this man had not been drinking, which makes it…

This article in our local paper is just too funny. It seems that someone has groomed his doodle to look like Old Dominion University's lion mascot...and people mistook him for a lion cub.

As you may have seen it has been terrible weather in Australia, on the East coast at this time. Catastrophic fire danger, The temperature on our back patio was 40o C and just under 50oC in the back yard(not sure how accurate our weather station is), There 137 fires burning in the State, some deliberately lit ( I won't say what I would like to do to those criminals) Jasper stayed inside in front of the AC, almost had to force him out for toilet breaks. Last night the temp went down a bit and…

Happy New Years to all.
We just returned from Tucson (back to nebraska) where Lilly got to meet new desert dog friends. She had never been to desert and did just fine. Silly me worrying about her peeing without grass. forgot the puppy stage of her peeing whereever she squatted.
New news. I had written that we were getting a puppy in Feburary and was going to name her Sophie..well plans changed and we are getting a goldendoodle that was born in July of 2011, just a month after…

Before we moved into our house, we spent many a morning, noon, and night over here painting. On one such occasion, we met one of our new neighbors who informed us about the "state of affairs" in our little corner of the city. We were told that our neighborhood has been home to a few burglaries, and potential crooks had been known to drive by jiggling door handles in the middle of the night. The sweet treat to follow that mouthful was to not leave our dog in the backyard because he could…

On November 14, 2011 I wrote and posted a blog titled: “CAN AN ANGEL HAVE AN ANGEL” (feel free to read if you haven’t). It is a story about my mom struggling with the beginning stages of dementia and the unique tenderness in which my boys handle her when they are together….…

There are some people in this world who are in dire need of a Louisville Slugger bat SLAMMED RIGHT ACROSS THEIR HEADS!
We now have an emaciated little Maltese rescue who was left in an empty Los Angeles area house when the owners abandoned the property. I don't know how long he was left there but the little guy is skin and bones.
We will feed him three high calorie and high protein meals a day and we will get this cute little guy ready to be adopted into a…

New Year's Day it rained and rained and rained. Thus far, Milt has not taken too much of an interest in our backyard, but when he discovered how muddy our yard can get, his interest was definitely piqued. He was digging deep down in the muck and racing circles around himself for no particular reason at all. This does not make for an easy cleanup, as you can see.…

Here is an update on Lyric--she is definitely expecting and due around Feb 6-8th--she gets so queasy during the 3rd-5th weeks that I have to feed her her favorites and give her several small meals during the day and evening--she has no appetite until noon! Boiled Chicken, scrambled eggs, cheese and anything else she will eat! She is doing well though and not losing weight--and her appetite should return big time in just a week or so.
Rio is fine after his neutering and has the same…

Babysat for a close family couple yesterday, Noah Jax. He is an almost 7 months old and a beautiful and happy little man.
After over 3 years of trying to have a baby of their own this young couple, Bryan and Beckie started the adoption process in December of 2011 and was approved in January of 2012. They worked very hard on putting together an adoption book depicting their struggles to have a baby and their lives together. Truly a marvelous couple.
In April, another very young…

Before I began blogging, I used to read a lot, a lot of blogs. Everyday after school, I would sit in our recliner and catch up on the different happenings: food, style, or home related. Now, due to a supreme lack of time, I just work on my own blog and on weekends, holidays, etc. try to catch up on all my missed news. One blog that I do read is Joey the Goldendoodle about a dood who was born in Pennsylvania but now resides in New York City. The blog tends to post cute photo updates of…

I learned some things a few days ago about holding a leash with a rambunctious puppy in tow.
“Hold it”=
“Grasp it”=
”Anchor with thumb and fingers”
I learned this because my five-month old puppy lunged suddenly, strongly, and unexpectedly on a recent walk. The leash slipped out of my hand, and my puppy zoomed off like a crazed creature—jubilant with his tail held high, leash flying through the air behind him.
Luckily we…

As many of you know, we recently moved into our first house. Did we lock the door to our apartment and simply walk away? No. We needed to do a bit of "spring cleaning" first. When you vacate an apartment, you need to whjp it into tip top, immaculate shape otherwise management is going to charge you for anything and everything. Example, nail holes cost $1 each and a brand new rug, if yours is deemed beyond repair, can cost you up to $700. So what were we to do but mop, sweep, and scrub…

I am back! On my lunch break and thought I would pop in and say hi to my DK friends. I started back to work yesterday and it's going well. On Tuesday (day before start day), I thought I was going to die. I cried all.day.long. Literally, DH handed me a glass of wine and said "honey I am sorry I don't make enough money for you to stay home, but you've got to chill out"! HA! Anyway, I've worked in my job for 8 years and love it and of course, after one day back, I, personally, am…

When Harley first arrived I prided myself on “never, ever, EVER” feeding my doodle – pup “people food.”
I have no earthly idea where this notion came from or why I adopted it. But just like raising a child, you realize after a while that all those unrealistic principles you thought you’d follow forever seem to…

Over the Holidays, I was contacted by a local Dog Resort owner (She works with the SPCA) rescuing and helping rehome dogs. She had a 10 month old Female that was looking for a furever home. She knew Me as a doodle lover - as I hosted a Doodle Romp at her park last fall. She wanted me to reach out to my doodle network.
I talked to her about the puppy- her previous owners had found her aggressive. They didn't have time to give her the love and support, exercise and training she needed.…

I am a proud doodle mom this morning-a great way to start the New Year. We had a house full of guests last night and Quincy behaved like the perfect little gentlemen. No jumping when our guests arrived! No begging for food treats while we had cocktails and appetizers! No stealing cookies off the lower cocktail table! He was exuberant to see so many people milling around, but settled in nicely. I swear he knows when people are saying what a good boy he is,…
