There Is Something In Your Dog That You Cannot Own

I came across this and really loved it. It's by Carol Lea Benjamin who wrote "Mother Knows Best - The Natural Way To Train Your Dog".

There is something in your dog that you cannot own - maybe it's the call of the wild. There is a dogness there you can only begin to admire, but, try as you will, you cannot possess or even fully understand it. Trained or not, he'll always be his own dog to a degree. He is yours to enjoy and care for. You can neither change his true…

Snow Day

Just came inside from a romp in the snow. Went out to go potty and stayed out for almost an hour. We are in the middle of a blizzard so it has been an inside day. When we got outside it wasn't so bad so stayed to have some fun. The bad part is now we have one wet snowbally doodle. Oh well, it was worth it.

Clueless Callie

It is completely foreign to my sweet little Callie that another dog might NOT want to play with her! At my sister's last weekend, she kept trying to play with their 14 year old lhasa/shi-tzu mix, Scoobie. Scoobie has been a cranky curmudgeon since she was a puppy, and this has not improved with age. Callie would run up to Scoobs, bump her with her nose, and then jump back. Scoobie's invariable response was to turn around barking, growling, and snapping. Since Scoobie doesn't have two teeth…

Oh My Aching Back!

No more bending over the bath tub for this double doodle mom! I'm too old for that stuff! New tub just arrived last night. Now I just need to find a faucet system and get it hooked up and we are good to go! Goodbye acheing back! As you can see Lucy had no problem with it, but Sophie is afraid of it. So far we have managed to get her to touch it with her nose (after about 30 mins), but she won't get in it yet!…

Crate this!!

The great crate debate... Here we are anticipating this new puppy in our little town home south of Denver. In one of the 30 or 40 questions I ask the breeder, I try to figure out what kind of crate to buy. She initially crate trains the puppies and highly recommends that we follow through with crate training when we get home.

Now I've never done this before...we always just house trained our dogs by taking them out frequently and leaving lots of newspapers around…

Anticipation...

So, we've never blogged before... Fact is we're still not quite sure what a blog is, or supposed to be, but thought we'd give it a go anyway. First a little personal info. Although in our early 60's, Paula and I have only been married 14 months. We're both Air Force brats, having lived all over the world as we were growing up. Both of our dads were A.F. career officers and have much in common. While I was graduating high school in Turkey, Paula was graduating in Taiwan. We were incredibly… Continue

Evening Primrose Oil 2

Good news. The EPO arrived. It is as stated. I got 5 bottles for the price of 2. They are mfg in NY state but Karen might point out that I don't know where the ingredients came from and she'd be right. After I posted and some people had ordered I became slightly anxious that it was too good to be true and I read, after the fact that customer service at Puritan's Pride was not good. As of now though all is fine. I hope the doodles will take them!

Tell the Judge how you feel about ChemNutra

If you feel strongly about making those responsible for pet deaths to be held accountable please see Susan Thixton's (TruthAboutPet Food.Com) article pertaining to this. We have one day to let the judge know how we feel before the decision is handed down. Lets share that we are NOT the uninformed consumers the manufacturers think we are. We demand accountability on behalf of those we have had to say good bye to.…

Playing With Friends.

Darwin has been lucky to have lots of friends to play with in the past few months. It's nice to have him come home worn out. With all this playing he has done some pretty hardcore napping, and we have certainly enjoyed that! We recently got to go to a Doodle Romp for Utah doodle owners. He had a blast! I thought I would share a few of our favorite photos from the romp... thanks Azure&Muppet for taking such great shots of the romp!

Teenage Doodles

Being the parent of a teenage doodle is hard sometimes. What are we to do with them. Last week the real son took Neely over to a friends house to play. Just for a few hours in the day. Neelys friend Jessie lives there. They love to play. Jessie's yard is covered in cedar trees. So they played outside in the snow and in around the trees. He came home a mess! He had half a tree imbedded into his fur! Not to mention that dog slobber acts like gel and fuses the tree bits into the fur… Continue

THE HOPELESS DOODLE ADDICT TROPHY ARRIVED IN CHICAGO!

The Hopeless Doodle Addict trophy arrived here in Chicago last Saturday, all the way from Nancy in So. Cal. I'm so honored to receive it! I promise to dedicate myself to becoming even more addicted to doodles and DK in the future, and to promote doodle addiction throughout ....What, Jack? You want to say "thank you" to the Doodle Kissers? Well, okay. That will give me time to catch up on a few things around the house. I'll be right back.

Jackdoodle here. And I want to tell you, I… Continue

Agility Update.

Was kinda bummed from our Monday session, as the trainer said I need to get him more under control off leash. Actually any control. Point taken. Was leery of our training session today. But Riley came through!! First thing: his first attempt at the tunnel, a mean a long tunnel. He was charging through it bent and beating me to the end. He went back to the finish end of the teeter board exercise, and did that good with quite of bit of bounce/lift on the board. Was introduced to the tire jump. He… Continue

Introduction to ISO

What is ISO? (From: Digital-Photography-School.com)

In traditional (film) photography ISO (or ASA) was the indication of how sensitive a film was to light. It was measured in numbers (you’ve probably seen them on films – 100, 200, 400, 800 etc). The lower the number the lower the sensitivity of the film and the finer the grain in the shots you’re taking.

In Digital Photography ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The same principles apply as in film… Continue

Saving a P/S photo to JPG

I wrote an earlier post about the problems I have been having with the color casts of my pics after processing in Photoshop and then saving to JPG. I finally found someone with the same problem, and better yet, the solution:

I shot a photo yesterday which has a reddish tint to it. This “warm glow” is very important to the image and I put a lot of work into getting it right. The image was shot as a DNG and manipulate in Photoshop, I saved it as a .psd for further manipulation or… Continue

Update on Rusty's Cancer

Rusty went to the Dr. Monday afternoon for his 2nd follow-up. The Dr. said that everything is healing as expected and he removed the drain tube, which should make Rusty a little more comfortable as he doesn’t have to wear the surgical sweater & vacuum bottle. Rusty’s next appointment is Sunday afternoon when Dr. Huber will remove his sutures; this week is going to be a challenge for us as the sutures are beginning to heal & pull and Rusty wants to get to them, which is a big NO NO. The… Continue

I'm Being Tested!

Little Miss Sophie has taken to testing me lately. When they come back in from Potty, they have to go to their pillows in the L.R. to get their treats! Lately Sophie has taken to laying down right beside her pillow, not on it! Sometimes she will lay a toy on the pillow and it is like "but mom, the pillow is full". She can be such a brat!

Stuffed Gus, Literally!

My poor ravenous Gus went a little too far this time. He's always been able to "puke up" whole socks & ropes about 3-5 weeks after swollowing "his" prize! Life changed a long time ago, there are NO prizes in this house! Except at Christmas, 12 family members, 5 dogs and dog presents. Tried my hardest to watch MR ravenous Gus, I FAILED.

Last week normal morning, me coffee, dogs in and out, Gus heads for my room went to check on him he's just lying there and looks at me in bewlderment. I… Continue
