Rusty Update, 2 1/2 Years Since Amputation & Cancer Fight Began

We have had a lot of non-Rusty issues this spring/summer and I have not been updating Rusty's progress. He has had a very good spring/summer until the last couple of weeks. We are hoping that he will fight this off like everything else he has had to deal with.

Rusty celebrated a milestone on July 25th, it has been thirty months since his amputation and his battle with cancer began! He is an amazing dog, having battled cancer for over half of his life and now dealing with “Fanconi…

You know you love your doodle when -

You're running out the door and blow a kiss and say 'I love you Baby!' and you hear your husband and daughter both yelling 'I love you too!' and only you know that you were talking to your doodle!

Swamp Dog

This past weekend, we thought it was time for Milton to meet his other set of grandparents, Momeaux and Pop.  Once again we plopped Milton into the car (he likes it now!) for another short jaunt, only 4.5 hours, to Louisiana.  Jeff's parents own a beautiful piece of recreational property complete with woods and a slough (swamp) nearby to their year-round home.  On our last family trip to New York, Milton snubbed his nose at sparkling lake water, but now back down in the deep South he seems…

Ramblings of a very tired puppy owner

It has been two weeks since we brought Auggie home and I feel like I have not slept for two full years.  I should have probably sent this as a private message to my DK friends in order not to incriminate myself, but who cares. I’m exhausted.

A while back we had a discussion about a TV show portraying dog owners willing to spend big bucks cloning their bellowed dogs.…

Holly did it again! Olympic Gold...

Giselle is a young Maltese who has had a hard life.  She was tied in a yard by her first owners and the cord she was tied with became embedded in her neck.  Then she was placed in a shelter where she was attacked by bigger aggressive dogs.  The poor girl was petrified of people when we got her and was also totally scared of other dogs.

Enter Holly... …

Poor Axl

Sunday my husband noticed a lump on Axl's right side by the end of his rib cage.  Our mobile vet came on Tuesday & didn't think it was anything to worry about.  We took Axl to our other vet (our mobile vet only does vaccinations and minor bloodwork).  The vet took a fluid sample & the test came back with not so good news.  There were "angry" cells with "multiple nuclei". So today we had the lump removed for additional pathology testing.  Poor guy has a nice bald patch and a 3"…

July Was A Blurr!

As I mentioned before two of my sons wrote a musical. There high school drama teacher submitted it to the New York Musical festival. Out of 400 musicals 30 were chosen. The Two Month Rule was one of the 30. Needless to say we have been busy. My husband who is very handy created and built the set the boys were a whirlwind of rehearsals rewrites etc... The show was for three days in July the 13th, 14th and 15th. Well do to their tenasity doing promotional events in city they sold out all three…

Puppy Photo of the Week

Today, July 30th, marks the one-year wedding anniversary of Jeff and me!  What does this day signify?  I am crazy... in love... with my goldendoodle!  Well, I am obviously wild about Jeff too, but the product of this marriage, Milton, holds a very special place in both of our hearts.  See evidence below: …

Another update on Parker

To all my friends,

I brought Parker home yesterday from the animal hospital and he appears to be doing much better.  He's eating and drinking and not throwing up which is really good.  He is on medicine and it appears to be helping him.  I can tell you he is glad to be home from the animal hospital.  He doesn't like being in a cage.

Thank you for all your prayer and well wishes.  It really means a lot to both me and Parker.

Vern, the Well Trained Dog or at least, the Best Dancer!

Vern came home last night exhausted.  For the past couple of months he has been taking an intermediate dog training class and last night was our last class.  It isn’t easy being the only dog in class who rolls at every opportunity and follows right behind you, as you are walking away from him, during the sit/stay.  I love Vern and he makes me smile every day, but I think I can say without hurting his feelings, that he is not a deep thinker.  Vern is an “in the moment” kind of dog.  When my…

A Sad Goodbye to my Sweet Champ

It is with great sadness that I tell you that I lost my beloved Champ on Sunday.  Champ was the sweetest doodle boy you can imagine and I miss him more than anyone can know.  My heart is sad that he is gone, but he lived almost 17 years and had a happy life.  I hope he is romping with his brother Buster in doggie heaven.  I miss that…

Outr First Real Vet Visit •UPDATE•

Two days ago Riley and I were out walking. I let him off on a long line so he feels he is free and I can get him back if he gets distracted.  This did not stop him rolling in something disgusting which was black, gooey and smelly (though more like rotten grass than you know what).  It was on his shoulder and neck, before I knew it was on my hand too and there were flies buzzing like it was a rotting flesh (maybe it was???) As soon as I saw it we ran home as I swatted away the flies and as…

another update on Parker

To all my doodle friends, I spoke to the vet today and she told me Parker has eaten four times and only threw up once. She is going to keep him over night again just to be safe. I am so happy to hear good news.  He's not out of the woods yet but we are slowly getting there.  Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.

Road trip.....

We are heading to VA Beach for a wedding this weekend and since we are staying with Family, we are bringing Cider.  I  haven't had a chance to delve into the discussion board to see if this has been discussed (busy at work/gearing up for trip), so I figured I'd just float this out there to see if anyone has a quick response.....Cider is pretty good in the car but this will be a 5-6 hour drive in the evening.  Can anyone share their experience taking a road trip with their doodle? Any tips…

Update on Parker

To all, Someone told me and paro virus was like a roller coaster; one day the puppy is doing ok and the next day he is lethargic and not eating and drinking.  Unfortunately, Parker health declined today and I had to take him back to the vet.  He is such a sweet little guy.  I prayer and wish he would get better.  The vet told me I would have to leave him because he is not doing well.  Yesterday, she told me if he got over today without being sick it was a mild case.  Today she told me all…

Traveler and Moxie

Trav's newest park buddy is a Coton de Tulear puppy named Moxie.  He's five months old and can really run, considering he has such short little legs.  His dad was watching me or I might have scooped him up and brought him home.  :)…

Educating the public about the doodle rainbow

I've been noticing more and more doodles at the dog park... and so I've been asking people what types of doodles they have. However, lately I've run across a lot of people who seem to know very little about just how varied the different types of doodles are.  It always amazes me how varied and unique all our DK doodles are, which is what makes them so wonderful.  …
