What is the best application to prevent fleas?

I am using the usual from the vet but am interested in other applications. I have read that apple cider vinegar or Avon Skin So Soft is good. What do you think? Would that really work in repelling them?

Lizzie won!!

Today, my vet's office had an educational open house and costume contest, and Guess what?!?!? LIZZIE WON!! I dressed her up as one of the vets since she has strawberry blonde curly hair! The judge said that anyone who had the nerve to dress a dog up like one of the vets deserved to win!! It was awesome. She's exhausted now, but had a great time socializing with everyone.…

I am 100% pleased with the finished Lucy as seen in the 1st. 2 pics. Chris did a supurb job. She charged me $40 and I gave her a $10 tip, which I do not think was bad at all and I never had to leave my house. She groomed her exactly as I told her too. I think I am hooked !!!! She started on Lucy at 11:45 and was done at… Continue

I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED !!!!!

I get very jealous when I read post about mobile grooming vans that go around different areas in the country, or great off leash parks near owners that they can take their doodles to every day and let them run.

WELL GUESS WHAT...............

In the newspaper 3 days ago there was an article about a woman that lost her job last year, went to dog grooming school and the gov. helped her buy a mobile dog grooming van. She has started her businiess and I MADE LUCY AN APPT. She is coming… Continue

Doodles at School

Well, at the tender age of 60, I'll be completing my California Teaching Credential and my M.Ed. Finally! What I want to know is this: Does anyone know of teachers who take their dog(s) to school with them as therapy dogs? I know of several private schools who allow this but so far have not heard of this happening in a public school. Please let me know what you might know about this.

Astro vs Halloween

I think my BIG red 71lb+++ seven month old puppy has officially defeated Halloween. And honestly I'm not too certain how the other upcoming holidays will fare. You see, as many in our neighborhood do, we like to decorate for the little ghosts and goblins that are sure to come knocking at our door on Halloween eve. Well, Astro seems to think we have decorated the yard for his joy and amusement. To date he has eaten a pumpkin, chewed two other pumpkin tops, punctured the inflatable… Continue

Therapy Simulation Night

Holly's fourth night at Therapy Dog Prep School was a simulation night. There were volunteer actors playing a number of roles at seven stations around the training room. The various stations were designed to introduce the dog and handler to possible stressful situations in a variety of therapy venues. The simulations were designed as much to train the handler how to intervene in situations that might become stressful for the dog as to introduce the dog to the various situations.

Rosco's Nursery Torture

Our nursery is half way done. The doods are very curious, but mostly about the sudden emergence of a million stuffed animals that they don't have free access to. "What is up Mom? Don't you know stuffing is a suffocation hazard for infants? I want to help, give 'em all to me and I'll make them safe!"

Yesterday I sat in the glider with my laptop and listened to Rosco's quiet whine,… Continue

Free Blackberry Curve ( Silver )

I have a free blackberry curve. Only 1 year old. Only a quarter eaten. Screen plastic cover broken, but doesn't affect the picture quality. Kinda unsightly on one side, with the chew marks and all. Op's the number 7 just fell out of the keypad, but sure it wouldn't take much to fix.

I fell asleep with Sir Riley on my chest. I don't know if he took it out of my pocket, or it fell to the floor. My wife came into the room and took it from him, it is pretty much trashed. It still works,… Continue

Breeding Cockapoos with ALD's

After reading the cockapoo discussion I looked back at Guinness's " registration family tree, and he actually does have cockapoos in his breeding background. Going back five generations Rutland Manor ALDs were bred with Rutland Cockapoos. This actually occurred in the fourth and fifth generation back. I'm really curious about why this would have been done. I'm assuming there would have to be some characteristics that the breeder was looking for. Does anyone have any thoughts on why a breeder… Continue

Gibson Update

THANK YOU to all my DK family who offered to help Gibson! Seems that the shelter has gotten a lot of people offering to adopt him. We hope and pray that he goes to a family that truly understands all it entails to have a Doodle as part of their family. The daily grooming, the expensive but necessary trips to the groomer, the constant and consistent training, the socialization, exercise - lots to take on if you dont understand a Doodle. Our paws are crossed that whichever family adopts him, it… Continue

RIP Squirrel

When I got home this rainy afternoon, I let my dogs out into the fenced in yard. Calla found a squirrel partway up a tree and Luca soon joined in the "game". For some reason the squirrel did not go up the tree but circled around the trunk. The dogs managed to catch the squirrel and ran off shaking it; not listening to anything I shouted to get them to stop. Soon they had the squirrel under a hedge and it was crying out. When I managed to grab Calla she had a bloody face--ugh. After putting her… Continue
