Since around Thanksgiving Mariner's problems with the seizures have been presenting more difficulties. After about 3 months being seizure free he started to have frequent seizures. This started after giving him the Heartgard Plus and Frontline Plus. We think that the Frontline may be lowering his seizure threshhold. But even as recently as this week he has had a seizure. They are becoming less frequent. We did all the medical workups and although there were some abnormalities right after the…

My darling Holly is seven years old today. I love her more every day. She is a wonderful friend to Judy and I and to our rescue dogs. We have a new rescue Yorkie + Poodle mix, named Sydney, who is terrified of other dogs. Holly will bring her around in a couple of days.
Surprisingly, Sasha, our Jack Russell + Papillion, mix, is also making the little dog feel at home. I had Sydney and Sasha on my lap together for about an hour this morning.…

Some of you who are my friends on FB know that I volunteer for our local animal shelter taking pictures of the dogs.
I have been doing this since April and even though I feel bad for all the wonderful dogs suck at a shelter, I managed to keep my cool. Until early November 6th, when I noticed a small poodle mix was brought to the shelter as a stray. I was there the day after they checked her in, and for some reason I just had to see her. She was in the "found" area waiting for somebody…

I can't remember the last time I was on DK, but I do think of my friends often! Hope everyone is doing well!!
As some of you know, I have a 2 year old girl named Charlotte (human!). I also have Peri, the 5.5 year old goldendoodle, and Taquito, the almost 11 year old Chihuahua with kidney disease.
The past 6 months have been a whirlwind for me. In June I found out we were expecting no. 2! Two weeks later my boss resigned and I have been in a whirlwind ever…

Last Wednesday night we brought Ruby home. She snuggled the whole hour drive. She ate, went outside and settled down into her crate. Whimpered once, took her outside where she did her business.
On Thursday we got a call that my father-in-law, Don, had had a stroke. We went over to Assisted Living--with Ruby in her crate filled with toys. Don's health rapidly declined. We called hospice [angels!]. Then we camped out for the next 4 days at the assisted living center with our new…

OK--so you all know that I am crazy--doodle crazy that is---and now I am proving it. I agreed to take a litter from the breeder that I work for for their last two weeks--and their momma too of course--and it is a litter of TEN!!! We had two litters of ten in November--very weird! So, the poor woman needed some help!
These are all black beauties from an F1 mom and a mini-poodle dad...what a chaotic Christmas we shall have! The families all come to meet them this weekend and then on…

I am married to a “pass the buck” man and I don’t mean a man who is passing out money. When the kids were little, he thought nothing of throwing them under the bus if it meant he could stay out of trouble. I could walk into the kitchen and find him eating a peanut butter sandwich with peanut butter on every drawer knob and him holding the knife and he would still try and say it was the kids who did it. I have long told him he would never be successful as a criminal because the evidence he…

Although Holly only weighs in at about 55 pounds, she is a very powerful dog! Last night I had Holly on a flexi-lead to go on her night time potty. I had her on the lead because it has been raining and I didn't want her paws to get muddy.
Somehow she tangled her lead with a plastic hose-mobile. And started to drag it. Hearing the noise of the dragging hose cart, I turned around to see what was making the noise. At that time the cart fell over with a loud noise which scared…

I was surprised that several of our volunteers had never heard of a "Flying Saucer Dish" so I thought I'd post a picture of one. It is great for a group of puppies because it keeps the food out around the rim. I could not find one at Petco so I purchased it online at Revival...…

Hello, I’ve been a member of this site for awhile, mostly lurking, learning a lot, and enjoying the stories and pictures of everyone’s doodles, but I have some confessions to make……
Confession #1…I am not a dog person. I grew up with cats my whole life and as an adult pretty much always had at least one. With a few exceptions dogs were smelly, drooling, creatures who were either yappy or scary or both. Probably because the only dogs I was really exposed to were toy poodles…

None of us want to think about dying. We hate it so much that we don't even want to use that term. We call it "passing" or some other euphemism. However, there are few guarantees in the world but, one guarantee is that we will all die eventually!
What happens to our beloved pets who outlive us? We need to make arrangements for their care and happiness before we die! It is traumatic enough for a pet to lose its beloved owner but, it is doubly traumatic for a house pet to…

How far he has come .... He can open doors, turn on and off light switches, bring me things, potty on command, walk well on his lead, sit, stay, down, come ....poke me for everything he wants. Lol! ... swim for fun ... get in to the tub when asked ... get onto his grooming table when asked ... carry his own leash to the door .... and the list goes on of all the little things ... He has the Poodle intelligence I was searching for and the Bigness of the Lab I…

I know I've not been very active on this site. I'm sorry to have to share bad news, now. Brady (aka Foofie) has been diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. The vet said we had two choices. Chemo to extend his life for 12 months, or prednisone to help him feel better for three months. We opted for prednisone. I want his last months to be happy and will not extend his life just to have him around for another few months. The prednisone is working well, so far. His appetite is back and he has his…

This was posted on a neighborhood website. I have used wasp spray for wasps and I can affirm that it is accurate and can shoot a distance.

Another week has almost gone by and another trip to Indiana for me. This time I had to drive my aunt home from Thanksgiving and my good friend, Rose, agreed to go with me. I need to start off by saying everyone needs a friend like Rose. Twice she has made these long trips with me to keep me company and the time flies when we travel together and the ten-hour trip goes by in a flash. I am so used to one word answers when I travel with John, that sometimes I find myself saying, “really,…
