He walks on water! Well, not so much!

I met a family yesterday whose back yard backed onto a park we frequent.  The mother peeked over the fence and asked if Gavin would be interested in playing with her 1 year old Newfoundland dog.  Ahhhh, yaaaa!  So she opened her gate and the two ran back and forth between their yard and the park.  Her beautiful pup was chasing Gavin who was enjoying being in the lead for a change.  Gavin dashed into the back yard, with Marley the Newf hot on his tail.  Gavin decided to take a short cut…

Doodle Puppy Parents: There is Hope!!!

Oh my, how I remember being where many of you are.  The long nights, the potty trips outside every 20 minutes, the endless zoomies, the nipping, the need to exercise an hour a day, etc...the list goes on and on!

Typical morning 2009:

That first year, our morning ritual included getting up an HOUR earlier to ensure Peri had her walk. Then we had to make sure that one of us played with Peri while the other one showered for work. It was constant…

Please watch baby Rooney's Smilebox

One year ago today as I stepped off a plane in NYC - my breeder called to say that she had delivered 3 out of 5 puppies and so far there was no male.  She said she'd call me back shortly and let me know if my…

WonderDog Update: Good News For A Change

When last we left all our DK friends and family, Penny had undergone a very rough time with her cancer treatment (we almost lost her in July) and we made the decision to end all treatments.  Our whole goal was to provide quality of life for Penny, no matter how much time she had left.

As expected, her fever disappeared after about a week, and she started eating and drinking again.  She was still very low energy and just laid around the house, but it IS summer in Arizona,…

Missing DK

It has been exactly 1 week since the big "Fry", got my computer today, delivered by Fed Ex - no monitor, no printer yet but what matters is I CAN BE ON DK again.

It is amazing all that I have missed. I mean seriously, I have jumped on at work but can't really contribute nor can I stay on for any length of time.

See you all tomorrow night and hopefully on Yappy Hour Friday.

Miss You :o(

Laurie, Fudge, and Vern say Just Say No to Coffee and Impatient People will be Happier!!

Lately, I have found that I am becoming increasingly resentful of a kitchen appliance and the drink that it produces.

For years now, I have had a love/hate relationship with coffee. Mostly, I hate coffee, but love some people who drink the stuff.   In my lifetime, I have known many coffee drinkers and actually was raised by two pros. I spent my formative years watching my dad and mom sip cup after cup of coffee.  There is no beverage that I drink that I could ever imagine…

I feel like a bad mommy

Hercules won't take his pain meds, but he knows he won't get fed until he takes them. I feel like I've just tortured him because I fed Zeus and Hercules laid on the floor watching ... and drooling. I've tried over 15 times to get him to take his pills, but he won't do it. He's so good about taking his cancer treatment meds, but not the pain meds - I guess because they're tabs and not capsules like the other meds. He's whined four times for his dinner, and I keep grabbing the pill pocket and… Continue

SUNNY REALLY IS A DELIGHT! UPDATE

Sunny got off to a rough start - mats, fleas, ticks, torn off nail, kennel cough, neutering, neutering infection (had to wear the dreaded cone for three weeks!). After having him for only ten days, his 'rescuer' fell and broke her hip and was unable to continue caring for him. My daughter kept Sunny for those first weeks. Sunny and her lab quickly bonded with each other. When she had to leave to work in another town, Sunny came to us. Sunny loves our dogs too and we have doodle wrestling and… Continue

Why Can't They Just Let Sleeping Doodles Lie?

OMD!  Why is it that when poor Tori lays down to rest or sleep, everyone needs to go over to her and disturb her!  No matter what, "someone" will pass the poor girl and poke or prod her.  They'll start petting her, lifting her ears, whispering sweet NOTHINGS in her ears!  Yes!  She IS cute while she's sleeping (of course she's cute when she's a wake too), but WHY do 'they' feel the need to have to tell her that while she is sleeping?!  'They' think it's hysterical how 'they'… Continue

NOTHING to do with Doodles.. Just need to vent

So where else does one turn to vent than to those ever so caring doodle friends who are always there with open arms and hearts.... many of you know I am so anxiously awaiting a dream vacation to Hawaii. (one that we have been trying to go on for 18 years).   Just as I was feeling so bad that we are leaving Tori (in good hands) for 10 days, my older son decides to take my mind off those worries by coming down with a FEVER!  YUP... 2 days before we have to fly 13 hours.... my 18 year old… Continue

Week one is done!

Well it's been a week and a day since Cooper came home and I have to say that it's been a pretty great week! I think I was bracing myself for the worst based on all that 'good luck sleeing' and 'I hope he doesn't ruin your floors' I was getting from people leading up to his arrival. This little guy has been SO great and I am so happy with how he's settled in. Here are a few highlights and challenges from week one:…

Sunday Morning and All is Quiet

Wow who would have thought that one puppy could turn my world and house upside down!!!

We picked Sophia up on Wednesday..  She was as good as gold on the 3 hour car trip home.  The first night was a tough one but she has now settled in to only getting up once in the night.  Great for me getting my beauty sleep and let me tell you, at my age I NEED it....

Now that she is adjusting  to us and my grandkids,  with each passing day we notice new and many unwanted behaviors, yet I…

He ain't heavy, he's my brother..

Yesterday was a red letter day for Lilly. She got to have a playdate with her brother, Peanut.  Madeline and Peanut and family live in Omaha (about 70 miles from Brownville, NE) and we were able to spend the afternoon with them.

As soon as Lilly and Peanut saw each other, they started playing and did not stop for an hour. Peanut was the largest of the litter and Lilly was the smallest and Peanut still outweighs her by about a…

The Grandchildrens Pool is done! Again...WINK, WINK

Pool is done and my doodle grandson is enjoying it immensley, (suspiciously,he's only in one of these pictures).

Murphy loves the water and there has been quite a bit of training going on to keep him out of it unless invited, but we have about a 90% success rate after only 3 weeks.

Bella still is very apprehensive and will go down the first step onto the first ledge which is an 18 inch play pool area, for the…

I'm Hopeless And Didn't Even Know It!!!!

Okay, most of you already knew this, lol.

I consider DK my extended family and have had so much fun getting to know people.  This morning I discovered my status changed to HOPELESS DOODLE ADDICT.  Seriously though, I had no idea and a little embarrassed to admit it.  Okay, maybe not so much.  What a great way to start the day!

The Sleeping and Waking Patterns of Dogs and Kids!!

I was thinking today about the differences in my two dogs and how they remind me of my two daughters, especially in how they sleep. Fudge is my dog that likes her sleep. I really think she would be content to sleep all day and she would never get up early. She reminds me of my oldest daughter.  It used to drive me nuts when my daughter had to be up at a certain time, because she would set her alarm clock and when it went off at the designated time, proceed to hit her snooze button…
