Some of you may know that my DH had surgery to have a spot on his thyroid removed two weeks ago. We were told there was a 20% chance of cancer and well, 20% to me is pretty darn big, so he decided to go through with removing his left thyroid. No risk in chancing that, especially with Baby S coming in October!
Let me rewind to August 2011. It was a Monday night and we were relaxing after dinner, as usual. All of a sudden, Conor tells me he cannot see and had lost most of…

Today is Peri's 3rd Birthday. I can't believe it's been that long! 3 Years since I got the email that the litter wasn't large enough and I would have to wait for the next mini litter. Lucky for me, a few on the list only wanted a male (I originally did too, by the way) and voila! Peri was mine!
She has made my life so much fuller. She has made Taquito happier. She gives SO MUCH to us that sometimes I feel I cannot repay her (that sounds silly I…

We are pleased to announce that Peri and Taquito are getting a sibling...in late September/early October!!!
No, our breeder's waitlist is not THAT backed up....
It will be a HUMAN sibling! I am expecting a little one!!! I have been anxiously awaiting hitting my 12 week mark (tomorrow)..I am finally almost into my second trimester. I wanted all of my DK friends to know as soon as I felt comfortable blabbing the news!
We purchased a doppler to use at home so we could…

So I had a stomach virus ALL WEEKEND long. I stayed home from work yesterday to recuperate and minimize my risk of infecting anyone else.
I was feeling better, cuddled up on the couch with Peri at my feet and Tacky the chihuahua on my lap under the blanket.
Please note the blanket was a purchase from our Ireland trip - cashmere, just my favorite luxury item in the house basically.
I am drifting off when I hear the gag reflex from Tacky. He…

For those of you who have not read this, no worries, I will try not to give anything major away.
All I will tell you is that "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein may be one of my favorite books of all time. I resisted the urge to read this for a few years (because it is an animal book and we know how these can be emotional!). However, my sister and mom both read it over the past few months and passed it along to me as a "MUST READ". Again, this book came out in…

First off: THANK YOU for all of the Christmas & New Year wishes! I have been MIA - enjoyed almost 2 weeks off and really tried to stay off the computer and away from technology (except for my e-reader) during that time. i think I was sucessful in that endeavor. My fingers are quite flustered by the computer keypad today due to lack of use :)
The day after xmas, we packed up the dogs and drove 9 hours to Amelia Island, FL, where DH's parent's live. They live one row…

Many of you know that we purchased our first home in March. It is on 1 acre and has a great backyard for the dogs. Problem is that it is not fenced! I have been holding off because of the expense. I want it to look nice - we can tie into our neighbor's cedar fence on one side, but the rest is up to us!
On Saturday I ran into a guy from high school who does all types of contract work. He does fences quite a bit and told me he would purchase the materials at cost, not…

I have missed DK so much! We have had a whirlwind of activity at our house the past few days and had a family of 5 stay at our house. We have been friends with them forever (the mom's mom is my godmother) and we do Thanksgiving together every year - have since I was 5 :)
Tuesday began our jaunt with a 7 year old, 4 year old and 9 month old staying with us! Wow! Keep in mind we hung out most of the days at my parents, so I didn't have cabin fever the whole week! When Peri first…

DH and I got back last night from a trip to Dallas to stay with my sister and also attend a wedding of a friend from college. Dood and chihuahua stayed with their grandparents, as usual. Keep in mind DH and I are big travelers and the dogs stay with my parents at least once a month - they have since Peri was probably 5 months old. In return, we keep their terrier (aka Lucy the Imposter) when they go out of town, which is also frequent!
Their backyard is walled off and has…

Hey doods and doodettes, Peri here!
It's been a while since I've popped in and a lots been goin' on at my house recently. First of all, last week every day this truck would pull up to our house in the morning and stay all day while mom and dad were at work. I heard mom say they were "painting the trim". Well, that means I got to bark my head off at them all day long. The last day they were there, diddy accidentally set that buzzing thing (they call it the alarm) - but the…

I was out of town for a conference from Sunday mid-day until last night (Wednesday). I called daily - morning and evening - to check on the dogs, and err...DH too! Keep in mind we are keeping Lucinda the Imposter (aka Lucy the terrier - parents' dog) while my mom and dad are in CA for the week. And I happened to have a conference the first 1/2 of the week while they are gone and I was the one who volunteered to watch her (hey, they watch ours when we go out of town!).
Day…

Last night we had scare. Let me preface this by saying my DH is OK!
Around 9:30 pm, DH lost his sight in the periphery of his eyes, his remaining vision became blurred and he was disoriented and very "off". I had never seen him this way (he does not have migraines) and started to WebMD the symptoms. Peri immediately came up to him and started whining, put her head on his lap and tried to calm him down. It was so odd. She knew something was up. Taquito ran to his crate,…

Peri had a huge day yesterday! She spent the day at daycare, which we don't do as often anymore. While she was there, she got her hair done at the beauty parlor. I know it is short, but doesn't she look cute?
Peri says "Hey mom, cut it out dood!"
She also came home to her "Aunt" Lucy (my parents' cairn terrier) in her house. She likes…

Oh my, how I remember being where many of you are. The long nights, the potty trips outside every 20 minutes, the endless zoomies, the nipping, the need to exercise an hour a day, etc...the list goes on and on!
Typical morning 2009:
That first year, our morning ritual included getting up an HOUR earlier to ensure Peri had her walk. Then we had to make sure that one of us played with Peri while the other one showered for work. It was constant…

This weekend we went with DMIL and DFIL (doodle mother-in-law and doodle father-in-law) to the lake. Yes, WITHOUT DOGS. I was so mad about that because they have a goldendoodle too and I told them "hey, let's get a lakehouse that accepts pets and take 'em all!". They didn't for some reason...excuse was that the boats do not accept dogs since we were renting and would be out on them all day. Oh well. Choodle had an excellent time at DG (doodle grandparents - my…

I don't know what is changing lately. Peri and Taquito have gotten along and loved each other almost as soon as Peri came home in June 2009.
However, since we moved into the new house, they are bonding differently than usual. They cuddle on the couches together! They NEVER did this when we lived in the condo. We come home from work - up the stairs from the garage (so they hear us coming with the garage door opening) and into the playroom/office where they stay during the…

I have had such a looooong workday and it has been pretty stressful. My head is pounding from many things and I just had a rough last meeting.
What changed my entire afternoon was opening an email from Peri's breeder. Filled with an updated webpage for Peri's litter. I got updated photos on her siblings!!!!!!!!!
HEADACHE=POOF GONE! FROWN=POOF GONE. Smiles and feelin' good.
Enjoy. Oh and IMHO, it's pretty awesome Peri's breeder follows up…

On Saturday I baked a batch of my grandma's famous homemade chocolate chip cookies for my dad.
As you can see from the below photo, Peri knew exactly where to position herself - directly below my feet! She was anxiously awaiting drops of cookie dough, but lucky for us both, I kept the chocolate away from her :)
Do your doodles do this while you cook?

So, this has been happening periodically, but now it is a daily occurance.
Peri sleeps on her bed at the foot of our bed on the floor. She loves her bed and curls up on it as soon as we turn out the lights for bedtime (or if we start reading in bed). About 6 months ago, she would start waking up before our alarm went off - when the sun came up really. She would then pace around and jump up on the bed, which was fine with us so we could sleep in a little…

2 years ago Peri came home to us. I took the week off work to spend time getting her used to our home and her little brother Taquito. We were up in the middle of the night taking her out, calming her down, potting training her, walking her in strollers to prevent sickness, etc...you all know the puppy drill! It's a little overwhelming.
Fast forward 2 years and what do I have? The most loving companion I could ask for. A doodle with the title "Canine Good Citizen". A…
