As I've never been a mom, Mother's Day to me has always just been about doing something special for my mom. Since until the last 2 years I've almost always lived several hundred to several thousand miles away, it was normally a phone call and a package put in the mail several days ahead of time. My how times have changed -- what more could a (Doodle) mom want!
Jett, Sophie, Lucy…

I still get to hug him and get those sweet kisses for another week, but I am very happy to announce that Jett will be going to live in Columbus OH. His new Daddy (Randy) was referred to me by Tom at the Doodle Country Store! Seemed like a pretty good recommendation to me! He should have easy access to all the latest and greatest Doodle (Dog) things and he will have lots of Doodle playmates at Tom and Kemp's. He will have a new brother who is a rescue Husky mix. They will be going to daycare…

Meet Jett! He is a one year old Labradoodle that we pulled for the DRC this morning from the local animal shelter. He was surrendered for financial reasons. He weighs 46 lbs and he is so gentle and calm. We are once…

Although she has been doing some Therapy work for a few months now we had never gone and "officially" taken the Delta Society Test. The Hospice organization approached us at a dog event and didn't require the certification, so I had never gotten in gear to sign up to take it. Always in the back of my mind though I wanted the certification so we could have more control over where we did our visits! So, with some hesitation I went ahead and schedule Sophie to take the test today. I was very…

We have had several beautiful weeks here in Ohio, and by beautiful, I mean "DRY". The yard is no longer wet and muddy from all the snow and rain etc. Lucy and Sophie have been getting outside to play everyday. Our back yard is like a lake when it is raining and they love to dig in the water and mud, so they don't get to play all that much in the winter time. So, when I would call them to come inside it was always an ordeal getting them to COME. They just ignored me. Now that they are getting to…

Topper has now been in his new home for a week. Things are going very well. Mom finally left him home alone for a couple of hours and he found a couple of new play toys (a box of tissues and a pair of dads old leather shoes). He is loving the kids and goes and checks on them every night before going to sleep in mom and dads room. He is definitely going to be a water dog as he always wants to get in the bath tub with the kids. He thinks life is good and they sent along a few pics. He is one with…

I know many who would really like to Foster worry that they will never be able to give up the dog when the time comes, or that they will be too sad when the dog leaves. I know for me, as I've mentioned before, the only sadness that I had was that I knew that Topper had to get used to yet another home. Everyone (my family) had their doubts about my ability to let him go when the time came. I somehow knew that would not be a problem. When he left, the tears everyone expected never came. That…

Our little Topper left us this morning with his new daddy for his forever home in New York. He was such a big boy, behaving very well while we stood and talked, he laid at his new daddy's feet. Then once all set up in his new car harness he jumped right in the car and sat down to get buckled in. As they were pulling out of the driveway his tail was just wagging and he was standing between the seats giving his new daddy kisses.
He is going to have 2 new human sisters and 1 human…

This morning as I was worrying about my Therapy Dog Appointments for the month of March because it is already mid month and I have not even started them because of my little foster puppy here I got to thinking about Therapy Pet Testing. Although Sophie and Lucy are both registered with 2 local organizations who do their own testing, I have yet to test either of them with Delta Society because there are a couple areas I'm not sure they will pass yet. Sophie does great on her visits, Lucy I take…

Topper has now been with us for about 10 days. When he first came it was very obvious that he had not been allowed on the furniture in his previous home. We never really encouraged him to get on the furniture, mostly because that left something for Lucy and Sophie that was still theirs. They could come up and sit with us and get away from him for a little bit. But in the last few days you could see that he was sort of wondering why Lucy and Sophie were sitting with…

Got the tub all installed and gave first baths a couple weeks ago, so it was time for the next step. Today the new grooming table arrived and looks like it will work perfectly for getting them in and out of the tub without lifting! Lower and they jump on, raise and they jump in the tub! Already have some dirty, haircut needing doods, so if we just had a Doodle Mom that knew how to groom Doodles we would be all set! They might look a little funny for awhile, but we will figure it…

We had a good laugh this morning when I logged on to DK and was looking at the dogs available for adoption. I saw that Taffy went PENDING and I said wow, that was quick, she just came up yesterday. Hubby said, oh great, are Doodles now going to be your New Real Estate? You see, we moved to Ohio from Florida 2 years ago. We got caught in the beginning of the down slide of the real estate market in FL. It took us 17 months to sell our home (not to mention the thousands in price drops). Anyway, I…

Lucy and Sophie turn 2 years old today! I cannot believe that it has gone by so quickly. I remember when I found out that I needed to wait until they were a year old to start their Therapy Pet work ..... that seemed so far away. When they turned one, they still weren't ready so we waited even longer. Just doesn't seem possible that it has now been 2 years.
They told me this morning that when they said they wanted new toys for their birthday they did not mean I should go and bring a…

Lucy and Sophie have no idea why I just took the new rug up out of the living room and put everything back in the closets, but they will find out this evening. This is Topper, he will be coming to stay with us this evening until we find him a wonderful forever home. I'll be letting everyone know how he is doing. If anyone is interested, get your apps in to the DRC. His current mom and dad say he is a wonderful puppy, but they are moving to an Apt. where they cannot have dogs. We shall see what…

As promised, here is my update after the 1st bath in the New Tub. I'm going to declare it a success. My knees were so happy that they weren't on the floor the whole time. My back, although happier than the bathtub process, will be happier once I get a method for getting them in the tub vs. lifting them in. I didn't get nearly as wet as I get doing it in the bathtub, but I did have to keep track of my hand with the sprayer and remember that the front of the tub was not as tall as the back. The…

Check out this guy .... he is beautiful! Not sure what part of Indiana this is. He is at an Animal Shelter/Animal Control location. I have to run out this morning, but if no one has posted that they have checked on him by the time I get back, I'll give the shelter a call and check on his status.

I took this pic of Sophie yesterday when she was outside playing in the snow. When DH saw it he said the exact same thing I thought when I first saw it ...... It looks like her tongue is broke!

No more bending over the bath tub for this double doodle mom! I'm too old for that stuff! New tub just arrived last night. Now I just need to find a faucet system and get it hooked up and we are good to go! Goodbye acheing back! As you can see Lucy had no problem with it, but Sophie is afraid of it. So far we have managed to get her to touch it with her nose (after about 30 mins), but she won't get in it yet!…
