Man it's been an exciting week for Darwin!
Linda, of Linda and Murphy was kind enough to send me a Utah geology book. We were talking about interesting rocks in Utah and my upcoming Bryce Canyon trip and she was so nice to offer it to me! Well, instead of just sending the book she sent a whole box of goodies for Darwin and I, how wonderful of her! Darwin is enjoying his spoils and I'm having a blast looking through the book. I can't wait to get out and explore... Bryce Canyon…

My Darwin has been missing for a while now. His very reasonably sized self disappeared gradually, leaving a giant, massive fluff in his place. It was quite disturbing to see him slowly slipping away. And who on earth does this puffy monstrosity think he is?
Don't get me wrong, giant fluffs can be very cute and soft. They attract a lot of admiring attention, and they look amazing when the wind blows through their luscious locks. But they are a pain in the butt to brush and…

Hooray! I returned from classes today to find it warm-ish, sunny and beautiful! It was a little windy but I will take what I can get. I was so glad to get a break from the wet, cold, grey weather we've been having lately. In celebration, Darwin and I had a little picnic out on the lawn. He enjoyed it even more than I did! I also took advantage of the sun and took some photos of Darwin, something I never tire of. :-)

Darwin has always enjoyed watching t.v., to some extent. He will perk up when he sees dogs, or hears high pitched singing, etc. During things like a dog show, he will watch for a few minutes at a time. But he has a new favorite show, one that he will sit and watch the whole scene for, ears perked. I've even seen some head tilting action. :-)
It's "2001: A Space Odyssey" the first scene where the apes are evolving... LOL. I know, totally random. But he seems to enjoy it a lot. I have…

A missionary knocked on our door this morning to give us a bible and invite us to his church. We aren't religious but we thought it would be nice to take the bible from him anyways. Well, 10 unsupervised minutes later...
I think this may be a double bad for Darwin. Just when I thought he was broken of his paper shredding…

Whew, what a busy and fun holiday! We were worried Darwin would be a little stressed or would feel left out, but he had a blast! We spent a lot of time with my husband's family, who completely spoil Darwin. He definitely enjoys the attention. He also got some presents from my younger siblings that he is enjoying thoroughly. I added a video of him opening and playing with one of his favorite gifts. It's a treat dispensing ball that is similar to what the buster cube does. He loves…

DH used to play guitar but for the last couple of years has been too busy to practice at all. Well, he decided to pull it out for the first time since we've had Darwin. I never expected such a strong reaction from our mellow pup! His reaction was hilarious because it was completely unexpected. DH played a chord and Darwin jumped about 4 feet and BOLTED. I thought at first that he was afraid of it, because of his crazy reaction. I was shocked because Darwin isn't freaked out by any sounds…

As many of you remember from here, I made a book for my nephew that had photos of him and Darwin doing things together. Well, photos edited to make it look like they were doing things together. :-) Anyways, I gave it to him over Thanksgiving and he loved it. Here are some photos my sister sent me of him reading the book after they got home. Also, the front and back cover. I had a hard time choosing the page and cover…

Darwin has always been good about going potty quickly. He even does it on command most of the time. But he does not like this snow one bit. I honestly don't remember having this big of a problem last winter. When we take him out it will be 20 minutes of standing there (It's always been less than 5 minutes in the past) and he won't even go! He doesn't seem nervous, just continuously sniffs around and circles but never goes.
We can't go to his regular spot because it's under…

As many of you know on Thanksgiving, the National Dog Show airs. I always enjoy watching dog shows, as I just love all dog breeds! It's a good time to brush up on your dog breed knowledge and fun to see all of the variety. Well, I re-watched it with Darwin tonight and he loved it! He sat and watched many of the dogs. He usually loses interest in the t.v. pretty quick so I thought it was funny. His ears were perked and he looked over to me occasionally, as if to make sure I was watching all of…

From 5:30 tonight until afternoon tomorrow, there is a blizzard warning for my city. Everyone is closing businesses and being sent home from work early. All college classes are cancelled, etc. DH is being sent home by his employer at 3pm. Power outages are expected, and could last hours into the night. The power company issued a warning saying that everyone should have food prepared or can openers, as well as matches and a lot of blankets. I have gathered some flashlights, candles,…

It snowed overnight! I am getting so excited. Thanksgiving is next week, my tree is up, I have bought Darwin a bunch of great Christmas presents, and it snowed. Yay! It started snowing last night and we woke up to about a foot and a half, deeper in some places. It's the first big snow of the year so I knew Darwin would be excited to play in the snow for the first time... I am editing some videos to upload in a bit of him playing in it. But for now I'll just show you the…

DH and I were bored last night, and after looking at that hilarious blog post that was linked to last night, I started wondering if Darwin was "simple minded". I was looking up some tests you could do and decided to try them out on Darwin. These probably aren't legitimate tests... but it was fun anyways.
first, I used my "Darwin come" voice but instead said random words. "Pancake" "Doorknob" etc. He wasn't fooled. Check 1
Second, I put a blanket…

Thank you all SO much for your comments on my last blog post. I realized pretty quickly that you were all right on the money. I think I was shocked when I saw him because he looked fluffy and groomed and I wasn't used to it. But the more I look at him the more I see how good the cut was. She cut his face to the length I requested but still managed to keep his shaggy look. His cut is extremely even and he feels very soft. I am feeling much better about it now. Perhaps I was just sad to see all…

I previously blogged about the Halloween party we took Darwin to. Well, while we were there we won a free grooming, full service. Of course, this doesn't mean hand scissoring, just a shave. This is pretty awesome, considering that most groomers charge 65 plus dollars for a dog of Darwin's size! I always groom him myself, because I want to save money, I have been quoted over 40 dollars for a simple bath and brush! Anyways, I also hear a lot of sad stories about doodles coming back looking like…

Yesterday we took Darwin to his daycare Halloween party. There were trick-or-treat bags, bobbing for hot dogs, a costume contest and lots of pet vendors. We even won a free grooming (a full groom!) which made me VERY happy considering my last attempt at grooming Darwin. He went with his best friend Maui, a Lab/Golden mix he has known since he was a puppy. I really wanted to take him as "the nerd" but could not figure out how to keep those darn glasses on him! I kind of felt that without the…

Today I did a practice of sorts for Darwin's Halloween costume. I parted his hair down the center and gelled it but his hair is so curly it didn't really stay slicked down. I was really worried he would be uncomfortable when I put the stuff on him because I want him to wear it all night on Halloween. Luckily, he didn't mind the costume except for the glasses (not sure how to keep those on him) so it was at least possible to get some photos. It wasn't easy though! He made sure of that, ha ha. He…

This last week we changed Darwin over from his Holistic Select. The new food, Blue Buffalo. I'm still really disappointed that there are no Fromm retailers where I live. I have called food store after food store, no luck. Oh well, Blue Buffalo is pretty good too. Anyways, we made the switch successfully and I am very happy with the results.
Darwin loves it, he snarfs it right down! I know many dogs love new food and quickly lose interest, but Darwin isn't picky so I'm not…

Today I officially became a Hopeless Doodle Addict!
This is such an honor! I'd like to thank Darwin, for being an inspiration and giving me lots of good material. Thanks to DH for allowing me to spend hours on my laptop with minimal complaining... thanks to all the DK members who have helped me along the way....
LOL. Seriously though, I'm really excited. It was about a year ago that I joined DK, and I have learned so much since then. Not only have I…

We finally got some photos taken of Darwin with a nice camera! A friend of the family brought her SLR over to get some family portraits, and took some lovely photos of Darwin afterwards. She also took ADORABLE photos of Darwin and my nephew Wes. It's so nice to have nice photos of Darwin!
Here are a few of my favorites.…
