If you are old enough to remember the Calgon commercial from the 70’s, then I guess you are old enough. No matter what was happening in your life, according to that commercial, one bath in Calgon would make all your problems go away and transport you to a calmer place. I would like to say my mom kept a lot of Calgon on hand, but by…

Summer is in full swing, especially now that I am out of school, and everyday is a Momma and Milton day! We are beginning to get into our daily routine of waking up, saying goodbye to Daddy Dog, and then taking a nice long walk or run. Upon return, Milt naps most of the late morning and afternoon, periodically waking to play ball, while Momma sneaks off to yoga class. We take another little evening walk while we wait for Daddy to come home. It's…

But Lacey, a 14-year old. 4-pound Foster Maltese has found a new home. Her owner passed away and she had no one to take care of her. A wonderful family has adopted her and will care for her for the rest of her life. They have a older mother living with them who had just lost her dog. Lacey and the mom will make a great pair. This is a win-win situation. And if Lacey…

I love the blogs on here that I have of different phases in Jack's life because it is like his "baby book"
Jack is doing very well at four years old.. This year instead of titers like we did for three years before, we did the three year vaccine... Mostly for money reason but also, I am okay with a vaccine booster three years later or I am telling myself that because I didn't really have a choice. :)
Jack also had to get his Rabies Vaccine.. We actually leave in…

Milt and I played a little ball yesterday (like everyday!), and it seemed as if after every couple of tosses, all he wanted to do was lie down in our flowerbed. That's what 90+ degree heat will do to you, I guess.…

When I tell you Saturday was hot – I mean it was hot! I’m talking “Africa” hot – Tarzan would have limited his “vine” swinging by mid afternoon – for sure!
Several weeks ago I promised some anipals, who were hosting and sponsoring Springfield Days, that The Boys would come out for the Pet Fest activities. Due to the high temperature, DH and I had a mini summit meeting before leaving and decided to bring lots of water, remain in the shade, and not…

This past Friday, Milt and I took a little jaunt to Petco to use one of his birthday gift cards. Of course, we left late afternoon, and we got bogged down in typical Dallas traffic. That aside, we first went to the wrong pet store, PetSmart, and we were forced to redirect to the other side of town. No problem.
We walked into Petco, and I immediately stepped, with my bare footed flip-flop, into a big puddle of doggie…

Something is happening to Fudge and Vern! They have been getting into all kinds of trouble lately and driving me nuts. Yesterday, I tried to sell them to our neighbors for $1.00 each and they declined and when I dropped the price to two for a dollar, they still said no deal. With the weather…

Well, it seems everyone has 15 minutes of fame.
Last weekend when friends and I went to a large horse show and country fair. Finnegan happily tagged along. We go every year, but this time it was really crowded and I think Finn found it stressful to be lost in a sea of knees, Jack Russell Terriers and Labrador Retrievers. A number of people…

Gracie loves Tinker, the cat. Tinker does not love Gracie. Therein lies the dilemma.
We introduced Gracie into our household about a year ago. Gracie was instantly curious about Tinker, and Tinker wanted nothing to do with this foreign, noisy, big-nosed intruder.
Tinker did not help her cause. She has a nasty habit of exercising her claws on our furniture. Before…

At the school where I teach, I attend chapel five days per week. Four of those days it is a brief service where we sing hymns, recite prayers, and listen to a Bible reading followed by a sermon. On the one other day, we have a full service complete with Communion. This may sound like an awful lot of worship, but it is actually a really nice reflection time for both the students and teachers halfway through the day.…

I am so over joyed today.
Some of you may know, but I work as a school social worker at local public school. Part of my job is to assist homeless students with transportation and other school needs to ensure their success in school. I also work as a mental health therapist for kids some of the evenings as my second job.
Today was overwhelmingly joyful day for me to hear two wonderful news. I thought these two seniors are really, true valedictorians in my eyes. They over came…

First of all, before I go any further, I would like to say I love all my nieces and nephews and all of their children. Up until this point, the only small children we have had overnight have been my niece, her husband, and their children from my side of the family. These small children do not have any pets and their introduction to…

When I brought my several Maltese and Holly out to go potty last night, they all started barking at the slope next to my house on which we have rosemary growing. I could see what appeared to be twinkling of several eyes. Holly ran towards it and just as fast retreated back into the house, completely scared. A couple of the Maltese were still barking at the "intruders"...
Turned out that what we thought were "intruders" was a partially deflated mylar party balloon. It was…

Those of you who have been with DK for the past 6 years pretty much know the things that Gracie Doodle either gets into or has had. Thankfully, up until now, I have had Pet Insurance. We have had two surgeries to remove Fox Tails from her front mitts paws, one to remove a Mexican Feather Grass seed from a turbine in her nose and a recent surgery to remove what turned out to be a calcium deposit on her hip due to Rattlesnake vaccine. For…

Imagine our surprise when Gracie was invited this past winter to be an amateur therapy dog for our Nordic skiing students with autism. On a good day, Gracie will obey the sit command and, with proper treats, will do a variety of cute tricks. On most days, it is highly unlikely that she will sit, stay and come if there are more interesting people, animals, or…
