Just the Recipies

If you would, please just recipies, no discussions in the recipe pages. If we get enough, maybe we could make up our own DoodleKisses Cookbook. We are teamed up with The Food Group. Join there for discussion.

Yes, olive oil is ok.  I cook dog veggies in it all the time.

I would like to know if olive oil is safe for dogs, any one know?

I made Snickers Bow Wow Brownies for his 2nd BirthdayI thought some of you may be interested in the recipe. As my husband said they look good enough to eat-and humans can eat them but they are a bit dry (LOL)

Ingredients for Brownies

Vegetable cooking spray

1/2 C canola oil

2 Tbsps honey

4 eggs lightly beaten

1 tsp vanilla paste or extract

1/4 C Carob Powder

1 C whole wheat flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 C carob chips

Icing:

12 ounces fat free cream cheese softened

1 tsp honey

1 tsp vanilla paste or extract

For the brownies: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray the inside of 8x8 inch baking dish. and line with parchment paper

In a  medium bowl mix together the oil, honey, eggs and vanilla with a wooden spoon Add the carob powder and stir to combine

In a small bowl whisk together the flour and baking powder add to the wet ingredients add the carob chips and stir to distribute evenly

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, Bake for about 25-30 Min or until the brownies just begin to pull from the sides and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a just a few crumbs. Place pan on wire rack to cool

For the icing: With a whisk or hand held mixer beat the cream cheese, honey and vanilla until light and fluffy, spread over cooled brownies,

Makes 2 dozen large or 3 dozen small brownies, can be put in the freezer if wrapped appropriately otherwise should be refrigerated

Actually Kirklands was rated very highly by a website that listed requirements for grading dog food.  I believe it recieved an A.  Not bad for a large box store food.  It is similar in ingredients to some of the high priced premium kibble that you see out there.  I feed my two Kirklands and they are healthy and at a good weight for their size.

It's not the worst but it's not the best, either. Many of us do homecook the main meal of the day and give a Premium Kibble during the day. There are several websites to look up foods but you might want to check out The Food Group here on DK as many of the foods have been reviewed there.

Just wanted to tell you guys about a web site that a vet has that explains alot about what to feed your animals. www.dogtorj.net. Lots of information, so you will be there a long time.
I order my food on line "Life Abundance" It is a holegestic website.

When cooking dog treats with peanut butter I buy a plain, no sugar added variety. I use no corn in any of my dogfood or treats as a rule, although I have nothing against it on occasion. Mine also get all homecooked food and treats but never at the table, so no begging allowed.

Sheila, I do not feed my dogs a steady diet of "people food", but they do get the occasional treat off the table. They are particularly fond of cauliflower for some reason. I can't honestly say if they "expect" it, but they do enjoy the treats. Mine do not beg at the table if that is what you are worried about. They know to lay down and not sit and whine. I work full time, so I don't have time to make home made treats on a daily basis but I do make them dog cookies occasionally, which they really like. A diet of mostly corn (found in a lot of the cheaper dog foods) is not good for dogs (or people for that matter), but the occasional bit of corn has not hurt my dogs. However, they do not have a corn allergy. Corn is especially bad if the dog is allergic to it.
