January Arbor Park Romp, such fun!

We had such a great time meeting our California friends and making new ones on Saturday at the Arbor Park monthly romp :) We look forward to driving down for many more, and hopefully caravaning with a few more of our friends here in Vegas! What a surprise to see our Vegas friend and her doodle Rosie and Sophie show up as they were on vacation in the area..... That is the great networking and info power of DK!

Hope to see everyone again soon,

Confessions of a Hoarder

My name is Comiskey and I am a compulsive hoarder.

It all began when I got my first stuffed toy at the age of 8 weeks. It was love at first sight and once I dismembered it into little pieces I found it to be a treasure. Each little bit became a “chewy”. You know the little bits that you can chew like gum and spit out when you are done. Well I began to save them…then it was on to other de-stuffed toys….plastic water bottles (they make great noise) and it finally escalated to socks and… Continue

dog parks unpredictable!!

I have loved every minute of the new dog park experience up until today. My dogs always have a great time, but today was a challenge, to say the least. One male mini-poodle apparently spends all his time at the park mounting the other dogs...male, female, moving, standing still...doesn't matter! He was really bothering Mattie today, but she thought it was a game and just kept spinning around to play. The owner showed no notice of the behavior his dog was exhibiting. Not sure he could have done… Continue

Why are some people so stupid?

So I start walking down the trail at the dog park and I meet a nice lady and we start talking. Another lady comes by and joins in our chat. We are having a wonderful conversation when this man comes walking towards us and he has a "chuck it" in his hand and is playing with his dog. He is only a couple of feet away when he decides to chuck a frozen tennis ball (apparently over our heads) and hits the lady right in the head. Point blank shot!

Poor lady grabs her head and the idiot asks… Continue

Salmonella Found in Dog Treats

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning pet owners not to feed their dogs Merrick Beef Filet Squares after routine tests detected salmonella in the treats.

Tests conducted in December first showed evidence of salmonella in the dog treats produced by Merrick Pet Care. Follow-up inspections found problems with both the manufacture and packaging of the snacks, the FDA reports. Yesterday, the agency issued a warning recommending dog owners steer clear of the Beef Filet… Continue

CAR SAFETY- DO YOU or DO YOU NOT??

I noticed in this weeks slide show that many doodles do not appear to be harnessed / restrained in the car. I'm guilty of this too and I have a restraint that I often do not use. Wondering if anyone experienced any misfortunes by not having their doodle restrained? Maybe this would be a good eye opener.

Met Up With Another DK Member!

While my family was in Florida in December, we met up with Ann, Mike, Sheba and Duke who were also vacationing in Florida. They are such nice people and I really enjoyed our visit. We met at a dog beach and let the dogs run around and swim a little. Now we tried to get a picture of us and our 4 doodles but of course it was a difficult task.

My granddaughter Mylissa fell in love with Duke and asks me about him all the time. Here are a couple of pics from the dog beach.…

He loves water!!

Ugh, came home in the afternoon to let Samson out, and he had taken his ceramic water dish and pushed it all over the kitchen! Water all over....he hasn't done that since he was 12 weeks old!!

I guess he was mad he was by himself...well, I have news for him. When the camping season starts, I will be gone more!!! He better get used to it!!!

He still is trying to get one picture that is way too high for him! I find paw prints on the wall and have to clean them off the last… Continue

Bait and Switch!

Last night I was sitting on the Sofa. Sophie was sitting on the Love Seat. Lucy came and jumped up and put her head in my lap. I was just sitting there rubbing her head for probably 10 mins when I hear Sophie "Woof". Lucy's head popped up, but immediately settled right back down. A few mins later Sophie "Woofed" again a little louder, and hopped off the Love Seat and is looking around like what was that. Of course Lucy hopps up as well and runs to the door, and as soon as she did Sophie came… Continue

Darwin has become a fluff ball!

I remember when we first got Darwin everyone was so drawn to his scruffy soft fur. Looking at his old pictures I have to laugh... He's not fluffy at all compared to what he is now. Everywhere we go people are always asking if he is an Old English sheepdog. I have to say, I don't see the resemblance... but he does have a similar... puffiness.

I think his hair grows fairly fast for a doodle. We cut him down to an inch when he was five months old because his fur was so long. At eight… Continue

Ughhh...It has appeared.

Ok, so Piper is doing SO great these days. We just can't get enough of our little furball! He is getting older...almost 5 months now. So, I have been curious (well, not THAT curious) to see if his lipstick would appear. He was neutered at 7 weeks, so I was hoping that he would remain a girly man forever. Well, no such luck. It has appeared. More like a lip-gloss wand, but here none the less. When said girly man, size was not exactly what I was meaning! Hopefully we won't be thinking of Clinique… Continue

Any Lackenby's have doodles out there?

Hi - My grandmother was a Lackenby. We've been tracing our family tree and found that ALL Lackenby's around the world originate from Lackenby in the North of England. I'm new to the site and would love to know if there are other doodle mad Lackenby's out there. Would love to get in touch. Pat, Archie and 'sisters'.

Wishing for a big back yard.

We take Darwin to my parents house every now and then to visit, and let him run around in the backyard. It's a one acre lot, and full of fun interesting smells. There are horses on both sides of my parents lot, and he loves to run up to the fence and stare at them. It really makes me long for a backyard. We live in an apartment, and although we frequently take him to dog parks and hiking trails... nothing compares to a big yard. Hopefully in the next couple years we can find a home with a… Continue

Follow up on the couch rules.

After much deliberation we finally decided we would let Darwin up on the couch with us. My husband and I are both happy we did. He is so much more snuggly now that he is getting older, and during the evening he will curl up and cuddle all night. I feel like it has made us both happier now that we have that physical bonding where I can just pet and scratch him for a few hours. We work during the day so I think it's important that he gets that one on on time when we get home.…

TOTALLY HOPELESS DOODLE ADDICT TROPHY ARRIVES AGAIN

Yup! The Hopeless Doodle Addict Trophy has arrived at a new addict's house. Due to my extreme doodle addiction I received the terrific star accompanied by the terrible towel (Steelers Superbowl 2009 towel) which I will proudly wave. I took my trophy and towel to share with my students. Of course, the kids thought Ned won the star trophy - they already think he is a famous star anyway. Thank you doodlekisses for making me what I am today - Doodle Obsessed! Soon I will pass this treasure… Continue

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

I should probably be posting this on the Medical group page, but I really didn't find much there in my search. I just talked to the vet, and she is diagnosing Guinness with IBS. All of his tests came back negative which leaves IBS as the most probable diagnosis. She said his diet will be critical. She is recommending home cooking for him going forward. She also warned that he should not ingest any "foreign" substances (leaves, twigs, even threads from toys), as this would most likely trigger an… Continue

Our First Hospice Visit!

Sophie went for her 1st Paw Pal Visit today with Vitas Hospice. She is assigned to visit Mary, a hospice patient 2 - 3 times per month. She did really well for her first visit to this facility. Our biggest challenge in doing Therapy Work is that all of the facilities have birds, and Sophie loves birds! She spots them as soon as we get in the door ..... even before I do! It is like she has bird radar! I've included a picture of her in her Purple Paw Pal Heart. It has her name on the front, and… Continue
