Wanting To Add A 2nd Doodle...

So, I've convinced my husband to add a 2nd Doodle to our family. We would like to adopt from DRC...any help in what to expect with two Labradoodles. Our Guinness is 1 1/2 and is still very playful.

Spring Update

It's been awhile since I posted on here so I think it's time for an update!

Abel has graduated from his beginner obedience training from Pet Smart. I'm not sure he really learnt too much from this. Most of it was already stuff he already knew or stuff we just need to keep working on but in a differen't environment. He did meet another doodle though and we now go for play dates every Saturday.

After much pondering we also decided it was time to shave Abel :( I tried cutting his…

Companion Animal Companies That Do Not Test on Animals from PETA

I like to check this list for products that I buy for everyday use but I thought I would pass along the list from PETA on Companies that Do Not test their "Companion Animal" products on animals.

I personally feed Canidae and I have contacted them about animal… Continue

Responsible Breeding Motto

My friend who show's and breed's shelties posted this on Facebook today, I thought it was a really great breeder motto :-)

Responsible Reputable Breeders care about the future of their Breed and the quality of puppies they bring into theworld & NOT the quantity.

Responsible Reputable Breeders DO NOT breed to make money, but to produce the best quality companions that conform to the Breed Standard, can perform the work their breed was intended for with good working… Continue

Our First Flyball Tournament

Halas and I went to our first flyball tournament this weekend. He isn't ready to race yet, but he's getting close. We went to this tournament with our team just to help Halas get used to the noise and activity at a tournament. It's crazy-loud in there with all of the dogs barking. And there's a lot of activity with dogs racing, getting ready to race, finishing up a race, or just hanging out in their crates waiting for the next race. There are just a ton of distractions to work through, and… Continue

WTD? Why is Peri so calm?

Peri 100% back to normal after her kennel cough ordeal last week. Feels great and I am relieved!

Here's the deal: even before the cough, she was starting to calm down significantly. She is now 13 1/2 months old. We let her have free roam of the house while we are gone now most of the time. She will sleep in on the weekends. We might have one zoomie/month now - I actually miss those - can you believe it?

And here's the real kicker: my mom LOVES Peri now. She even…

One year ago Harlow joined our family

Wow time flies when you're having fun. It is hard to believe it has been a year since Harlow joined our family. We had already picked out a name, Lauren Bacall, and let the breeder know. We were referring to our new girl by Bacall when we went to pick up puppy supplies and setting up her first visit with our vet.

We are not sure how it happened, but somewhere between picking her up at the airport and home, DH and I realized that our girl was really a Jean Harlow. And Harlow is who she… Continue

Just a Doodle happening!

Funny thing happened this morning. I was in the shower, and Riley let

out a strange bark. It wasn't a hurt bark, or I would of torn the

shower curtain down trying to get to him ( wouldn't of been a pretty

sight ). When I was toweled off, went looking for him. Found him in

the back corner of his night crate, and wouldn't come out. I have no

idea what scared him, like I have always said his middle name should be

chicken little.

Just got back from the… Continue

Back To A Two Doodle Home!

Jett's new Daddy picked him up yesterday. Jett was very calm and relaxed when they first met. Things will now return to normal around here, but it sure is quiet. Here is a picture of Jett with his new Dad and Dad's Nephew Brennan (I hope I got that right). Jett wasn't real excited about getting in the car, but when you figure his last car trips were to the vet to get neutered and to be surrendered to the dog pound, I guess I can understand. I'm sure this morning he is having a wonderful time… Continue

Holly at work

I'm a speech pathologist at two nursing homes, both which have fairly lenient pet policies. I always share stories about Holly with my patients and I've brought in pictures to show everyone how cute she is. Friday afternoon I found out two of my patients were going on Hospice

and weren't doing to well. I talked with the DON and got permission to bring Holly in to visit them. It was SOOO great! We ended up visiting with 7-8 of the residents, and Holly did very well. She didn't jump or bark.… Continue

Darwin Evolves part 2

It's time for part two, the party at the dog park! It was a lot of fun, and the pups had fun playing and eating yummy birthday treats! This post is pretty picture heavy, just a warning. :-) Thanks to everyone for coming and making Darwin's birthday special. And thank you Azure, and Courtney, for the great photos!

Big Weekend for Guinness....and Murph Says "Okay" to Grooming

Tomorrow is Guinness's TDI evaluation, and Guinness's Mom is a nervous wreck. Supposedly the evaluator that will be doing his test is extremely tough....what happened to "the luck of the Irish"! I'm doing a "dry run" with my trainer later this afternoon. I think it's going to all depend on what types of distractions the evaluator uses...what other dogs, will she use young children, how will she interact. There are lots of unknowns. He is certainly trained...it's all about whether or not he gets… Continue

It's Double Doodle time!

I've been Ummming and Arrrring about a second Doodle/Ooodle for about a year now. Welly was 2 years old in January, and even though he's a big lad and fills a huge part of my life I couldn't help feeling there was room for another doodle. Or was I being unrealistic and would 2 lead to double trouble - especially when my mum would have to look after them. But on every walk I couldn't help feeling that both Welly and I would love the company of another dood.

Well I finally… Continue

CGC Class #!

Tonight DH and I started Canine Good Citizen classes with Penny Scott Fox in Pasadena. Roo and Tigger are 32 months and 24 months respectively. They both have basic obedience. I have been waiting for her to offer a CGC class on some day other than a Tuesday so I am very excited. Neither of the dogs were embarassed by us so I guess we did okay. Although I will say that the puggle and the bichon were much quieter. Tigger and Roo had a lot more fun though. Practice, practice, practice now.…

Chervil passes CGC test!

This week Chervil passed her Canine Good Citizen test! We've been in a prep class with the same fabulous trainer I've worked with since she was a puppy, and we've been practicing like mad--and then I did what some of you suggested in a different post: I tried to relax and have fun. So now I'm being a big goober and ordering the tag and badge and all that--SO compensating for a childhood bereft of awards!!

Happy birthday Mark!

My son Mark turned 12 last Saturday. Of course he got several presents, we fussed over him all day, and he had some friends over. I admit to ignoring Lilo and Rocky slightly because of his party... just around dusk, the dogs went outside as usual to make their evening rounds around our property. They did stay out for quite a while, but I didn't think much of it. When they finally came in, Lilo walked over to Mark and dropped a dead mole rat on the floor in front of him as if to say: Happy… Continue
