Vern Update & Wedding

My daughter is getting married in one week. For the last two years, I have been planning this wedding. The bride is in school and in her own words, "just wants to show up." My next daughter, I am paying her to elope, because I would like to retire as a wedding planner. What does this have to do with Vern, our 5 month old labradoodle? Well, the last few months have been hectic and what have I been letting slide......hmmn, home cooked meals, biking, exercise, and Vern's training. No where was… Continue

Chihuahua Inherits Millions!

You gotta check this story out! Yes, the lady may be a bit cookoo, but I think some of us will get a kick out of the story since we are a little obsessed with our doods (and I am a little obsessed with my chihuahua too!).

A Doggy Day at the Beach

Marianne shared this with me and I thought you all would enjoy it as much as I did.

Turn on your speakers, grab something to drink and be prepared just to sit and smile!

I will add that this makes me realize how lazy I have been with training. Back to work for us!!…

Matts

It is funny, when I am stroking Sir Riley, and I come across a matt and start to separate it a little by hand. He knows the big guns are coming, and wants out of Dodge.

My husband has..... PARVO??!!!!

So my hubby has been really sick the last week or so - of course refused to go to the doctor. Finally, I got him to go - it was either that or I was going to smother him with a pillow ;-)

He was having a really hard time taking a deep breath, lots of pain in the right side of his chest, coughing, wheezing, whining (did I say that?!), short of breath, more complaining. He went to the doctor and for a chest x-ray.

He comes home…

The Doodle Cake

Well, I have been practicing layered cakes for the past few months, and I'm down to the last week. Next week is my friend's wedding, and I am doing her cake (panic stricken look). I decided that my last practice would be to just make a 14" round (which is the size of her bottom tier) to make sure I can work with something that big without any problems. That went by without a hitch... and I was left with a huge white fondant covered cake that could serve 75 people. What to do with it? Well, I… Continue

Rosco's Non-Doodle Puppy Playdate

A friend of mine got a springer spaniel pup a couple months ago and we've been trying to get our dogs together but with bad weather, traveling, etc... it was only today we accomplished our goal. Bailey is 5 months old and seeing these pics of him playing with Rosco made me think of Ned/Clancy playing with their Springer Spaniel bro, Gordie, but with a size swap!…

Is it going to be a boy or girl.....???

Yesterday afternoon I realize something is wrong. REALLY wrong, I am experiencing MAJOR pain in my stomach. I go into the kitchen where my son, Mark, is. He is 11 years old. I look at him and I tell him something is wrong and I need his help. Mark helps me put my shoes on. I call DH and tell him to come home immediately. I then call my mom because I am thinking she can stay with Mark. I need to get to the hospital NOW. Surprisingly DH gets home first. He takes one look at me and says we are…

Getting to know a new type of Dood, er Schnood...Bentley, the Foster Schnoodle

This past Monday, I took over fostering Bentley from Nina (of Nina, Phil, and Harlow). Nina had Bentley (originally named "Hobgoblin") for about 2 weeks, having pulled him from a high-kill shelter in Augusta. Nina's reports on Bentley (or Mr B, as I've taken to calling him) were glowing and accurate. He's a total love! A cute, sweet, playful baby boy!

Mr B spent Monday afternoon exploring my house (as I tried to tidy it up - I'm still embarrassed that Nina saw my house in such…

Rusty's Progress

Rusty has had a very busy couple of weeks since the last update and overall has done very well! A dear friend from Portland arrived on Thursday the 27th for a long Memorial Day weekend and left the following Tuesday; having company in the house kept Rusty occupied as to what was happening and checking on Sally’s room. Rusty went for his first “official” swim while Sally was here; he did fairly well, obviously tiring much sooner than before. The missing leg did not seem to have any effect on his… Continue

Two Doodles get the freedom of the house for 8 hours...

I'm sure the title alone may have captured your attention. My one year olds, Daisy and Hunter, are in a trial period of slowly having their "space" expanded while we are away at work or on errands. Now, we all now the Doodles are smart, they can be mischievous, and will sometimes leave you guessing.

Case #06152010. (In case you're wondering where those numbers came from, it's just the date of the crime and I couldn't think of any other random…

Orange Beach Bummer

On Tuesday, Murphy and I loaded up our stuff in our little red car and headed out to Orange Beach, Alabama to spend a week with friends boating and beaching and generally having a good time. We are South Louisianians. We know there is an oil spill. We thought we could beat it. We didn't.

The condo didn't want a giant goldendoodle swimming in their pool. They didn't care that it was literally 100 degrees outside. Murph didn't understand why he couldn't jump off the dock that…

Shelby's first Summer Cut!

Hi Doods!

Today I went to the groomer for my summer cut. My mom has been talking about this for a couple of weeks now. When we got to the groomer - I met Stacey.... she was really nice and took care of me while I was there. Stacey and my mom talked for a while... about my new hair cut.... something about my ears was all I really heard as there was a nice pug in the shop who I was saying hello to.

Mom picked me up at about 2:00pm and she kept talking to me and…

A Leap Of Faith

I have never let Guinness or Murphy off lead outside unless we were in a fenced in area. Today we went exploring, and we found a fantastic off leash dog park only 30 minutes away. It is 235 acres of State property on a beautiful river. When we got there we saw a couple of people with their dogs (about 10), but it was so huge you could easily find an area where there were no other dogs. We brought our 30 ft leads....I had planned to "walk them" on the long leads. Well, it was such a perfect… Continue

Peri's Breakthrough with my Mother!

I posted a blog a few months ago about my mother not liking Peri. She was getting into her flowers and just being a normal doodle puppy, but mom upset me by saying she "shouldn't be like this now that she is almost a year old". We spend each Sunday at my parents' house for "family day". 4 dogs get to enjoy time together playing around, us humans do fun family stuff like games, movies, etc....

Since the comment my mom made, I have stressed to my parents the importance of not just…

Aunt Holly Will Have Some More Puppies To Love

Holly, our year and a half old Goldendoodle, just loves puppies. Although Holly has been spayed; our work with American Maltese Rescue often provides her puppies to love and care for (see my photos for examples of Holly's interaction with little Maltese pups).

A Maltese breeder in the Pacific Northwest has terminal cancer and will soon pass away. The breeder has no one to care for her dogs so, American Maltese Rescue is stepping in to help. Judy is driving from Escondido to…

With Destruction Like This...Who Needs a Puppy?

I have only recently gotten over my puppy fever, deciding to wait until next year at the earliest (believe me I was tempted a few weeks ago to say "OK..let's get it THIS SUMMER!")

But with destruction like this...WHO NEEDS A PUPPY?…

Celebrating Ella Fitzgerald ~ turning the page to the next chapter

On Friday our dear Ella Fitzgerald at 4 1/2 years old officially retired, she was spayed. It is bittersweet because it is time, but I still swallow a lump in my throat. I do not know if I can find the words to express how I feel about Ella but am going to try.…

My First Bike Week

My 1st Laconia Bike Week is awesome so far!!! I love all the bikes, bikers, music and smells!!

Mom thought I might be a little overwhelmed with all the goings on but I'm totally loving it.

Everyone wants to stop and say hi to me and pat me and be my friend. Mom says she's going to

get a shirt for me that says "My name is Banjo. I am a Goldendoodle. That's a cross between

a Golden Retriever and a… Continue

I Had A Fun Day!

Hi, It's me Quincy, I want to tell you about my fun day and how I made my mom and dad proud. Today we went to a Pet Expo, it was a fundraiser for our local shelters that help the animals. Yipeee! Dogs were allowed inside. There are not many places in our town that allow pets inside. First we watched the agility demo outside and I thought that looked like a lot of fun to try but the lady said they have a really long waiting list. It started to rain a little and my mom said she didn't want me…
