Christopher

I knew I'd have a lovely time with Christopher ... I was out nearly all day. We had a great game of football, he does need to brush up on his defending, its too easy to get the ball off of him. We then went to pick his girlfriend up and she was looking after a little doggie, called Bel. She was great fun. We ran round and round for ages, Christopher got quite dizzy I think. Bel wasn't that keen on playing football, so we decided we would run in and out of the ditches at the edge of the park,…

Ignorance Is Bliss...

When I retired a couple of years ago, I decided it was time to fulfill a life-long desire to get a dog. My previous experience with dogs consisted mostly of wonderful child-hood memories of ranch dogs in Montana–loveable, smart, working dogs. If those dogs had any issues with food, fleas, ticks, illnesses or grooming, I’d certainly never heard about them.

It didn’t take too long (okay, several weeks of poring over pictures and descriptions) to settle on either a goldendoodle…

Little ink splotches!

Ollie loves everybody. This was his first introduction to our neighbor's (very friendly) cat. He just wants to play with her. She on the other hand, looks at him like he is a pesky little boy. She is really very sweet so apart from a little swat with no claws she puts up with his sniffy little face. This was the first time so I kept the door closed. They are both so dark that on a phone camera they just look like ink splotches,…

Jealous of my abs...kind of.

I have to tell you guys, Bernie gets extremely excited every time I decide to buckle down and do my ab exercises on my work out ball.

Now I know some people read 'ball' and think "oh, big bouncy ball, of course he gets excited!" But the ab ball is always out (unless we're having company over) because I tend to use it more often if it stares at me.

I wish I had a video! He barks, jumps, climbs on me, mouths me, runs a lap around the room and then uses me as a launching bad!… Continue

Standing Guard

The other night I let Riley out for his nightly duties. We have a spot light that lights up most of the deck and yard. He went to the back edge of our deck and detected a critter in the unlit area behind the garage. There was about a distance of 15 feet between where he was and the unknown assailant lurked. He stopped in his tracks, and growled at the unknown critter. I was in the house, but watching his moves thru the French doors. It was a standoff. I don't know if it was a cat, raccoon or… Continue

Interesting ideas...

At the end of the day, dogs may rely on humans, but they also use their skills to manipulate their owners and the world they live in. And even though dog owners like to think they're in command, the professor says it may actually be Fido who is really in charge.

Intelligence Testing

DH and I were bored last night, and after looking at that hilarious blog post that was linked to last night, I started wondering if Darwin was "simple minded". I was looking up some tests you could do and decided to try them out on Darwin. These probably aren't legitimate tests... but it was fun anyways.

first, I used my "Darwin come" voice but instead said random words. "Pancake" "Doorknob" etc. He wasn't fooled. Check 1

Second, I put a blanket…

For the love of squirrels

Lyric's pregnancy?!

I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that my 2 1/2 year old ALD Lyric is pregnant. She was bred two weeks ago and so far all signs point towards a successful breeding. However, we won't know until the middle of December when we do an ultrasound. I just thought it would be fun to keep a record of her pregnancy and the whelping, especially for people who have never bred a dog and are curious about it. I have never done this before either, so I am learning as I go along also. Luckily, I… Continue

Yesterday

Had a lovely day yesterday with my dad. I thought he was going to be doing is "mending the house stuff" all day, but............... he took me to the woods. We had a great time, chasing the squirrels (well I did, dad just watched) running in and out of the streams, and we ended up at the lake so I could have a splash about. Such heaven. Dad said when we went out he had a black dog, but came home with a muddy brown one. I had to have a bath when we got back, but I don;t mind the bath…

Kona is not to be outdone, Buddy earned his Rally Excellent Title too :)

Congratulations finally to Buddy CGC TDI RE :) It may have taken him a little longer, but he finally completed his Rally Excellent Title this last weekend. On Saturday he finished with a 92, but on Sunday with an 82 I was happy he qualified! Dog "almost" in heat in the ring right before him, not a fun time had by me, he had a blast LOL When Buddy reacted to the dog at 5 feet…

Bad Doodle Mom...:(

A couple of evenings ago Trav was sound asleep and I was deeply involved in a project. I sort of registered that I was hearing him whining, but thought he was having a dream. Finally realized that the whining was still going on, and found the poor little guy practically dancing by the door, wanting OUT!! Once the door was open, he bolted and barely made it to the grass before having a diarrhetic episode. I felt so bad for making him wait when his need was so urgent! The next morning he was…

playing 'find the fox'....

Traveler got a new toy, a plush fox, and just for fun I put it under his blanket. He dug it out, dropped it on top of the blanket and looked expectantly at me. So I did it again. And again. He loved digging around in the blanket and finding the fox! So I expanded the game. Had him wait in one room and put the fox in another room. He could see where I put it. Then I told him to 'find the fox,' which he did. Next I put it just a little bit out of his sight-line. Then he was finding the fox…

Vets

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Had a visit to the vets. Mum tricked me this morning, we had our usual walk and came home for breakfast. Mum then put her coat back on and picked up my lead. Wow, I thought two walks in a morning snd off we went. As we walked down the road, I thought, we going a different way, and then horrors of horrors, we turn up at the vets door. Why are we going here I thought, I've been OK. Anyway I went in and the vet was actually quite a nice man and made an…

I'm in love!!

It has been a week since my last update and I have to say...I'm in love!!! Oliver is turning out to be the biggest sweetheart doodle. No more growling when picked up! Seems like it was insecurity on his part about getting to know us. He loves people, other dogs, cats and basically everybody. He is also our dining area vacuum cleaner. he goes on sniffing expeditions under the table to look for crumbs that I may have missed cleaning after the kids' dinner. He gives the sweetest kisses (or… Continue

Why was Sheila PINK all over???????

OWWIEEE Guys! I just had my second rotator cuff/labrum surgery done last Fri. It hurts so much more than the other one I had done six years ago. I'm older and dr. said joint just about worn out. He showed me all these pretty pictures of his work (he was so proud of himself) and I must have looked 1/2 dazed (yes, I did have to succomb to hydrocordone) so he said, basically you had bone removed, spurs removed and a shave and a haircut!! This is first time i've typed so forgive…

Sunday

Wow, Phoebe what is that white stuff everywhere? Did you burst the pillows? Had another fun day today, although it was raining but the puddles are great.

Mum said that she was fed up with the wet weather, but I quite like it, especially when mum dries me with the towel, mmmmmm feels great.

I didn't get to see Winston today mum and I went out quite early and I know that Winston likes a lie in at the weekend, such a lightweight - the longer you're awake the more fun you…

Rua's Continued Adventures!

Rua here! Momma thinks I am taking a nap while she is downstairs with Papa watching the Minnesota Vikings). Life is going pretty well for me. My Momma keeps buying me new toys and clothes. Yesterday she came home with a rain coat and a pink t-shirt that says "social butterfly". Papa rolled is eyes and gave Momma that look. He did laugh when he saw me in my new t-shirt, though, and said I looked cute. She also bought me 3 new chew toys - something about that being better that the dining room…
