I'm just a proud Mom. My 31 year old daughter just crossed the finish line in the Panama City Beach Ironman Triathalon with a time of 10:54. Started this morning with a 2.4 miles swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and finished with a 26 mile run. I got to watch the coverage live online.....just saw her smiling face cross the finish! Go Shaina!!!!!!
OK.....I'm done. Thanks for letting me show my pride : )

I sought advice recently in a discussion about Traveler protecting the bed (or me) from his visiting 'brother,' Grendel. Here's a picture of the two of them sharing the bed. Of course, there's no room for ME, but they're happy. In fact, in the last 3-4 days I've discovered that Trav gets protective only when I'm actually IN the bed, and he's maybe very subtly protective at other times, like possibly trying to get between Gren and me when both dogs are milling around and I'm petting both…

I hate (not really) to keep writing blogs about my mom, but something happened recently and I can’t help myself. First of all, if you do not like inappropriate mom humor, you should stop right here and move on to another blog. I have said before my mom is 85 and has a great sense of humor. First, I have to give you a little background. My mom loves to read and I recently recommended the Bride Quartet series to her by Nora Roberts. My mother is a mature…

My inlaws always had dogs. Often 2 dogs at the same time. They have had a collie, a black lab and an eskimo. All rescue. Their last dog passed a few years ago, and it wasnt until earlier this year they started thinking about getting another dog. Of course, I tried to persuade them to get a doodle - they love Cooper to pieces, and even my FIL said Cooper was the best dog he ever met!. But they arent prepared to spend the money to get one from a good breeder, and they dont come into rescues…

A month ago, DH and I packed up our bags and took a long trip east!
Some background info for those of you unaware
Im an ecologist, and moved from England to Canada a few years ago. Ive been unable to get ecology work and so ended up working in a pet food store. DH was unable to get a marketing job once her graduated, so also worked in the pet food store (good for Cooper and the cats, not so great for us!).
I was planning on going to school part…

We usually spend Halloween at our daughters house since living in a semi-rural area, we don't get any goblins coming to our home for trick or treat.
Holly will usually get a bit excited when someone comes to our door and will often bark. I really don't mind this because she is always in control and her actions seem to be a bit of a safety feature, Not many intruders would come into my home with a barking 65-pound pooch challenging them.
However, it is night…

I am really starting to think that there really is such a thing as the "doodle fever". We laugh and tease about it in my family, and we now proudly have a total of 6 doodles in the family. I am beginning to wonder, is the fever real?? My first doodle, Magnet, who turned 2 on Aug 2nd, is the culprit who started this whole "fever" thing. It's all her fault :) I knew for years that a doodle would be my next dog. When the time was right, I found her and now…

Some of you may not know that we are restoring an 1870 house in Brownville, NE. population 120. located 70 miles south of Lincoln. When I told my daughter that we bought a fixer upper in Nebraska, she asked if we had started smoking crack. I told her that if we had, I would be much thinner. We hired a local guy as a contractor to restore it last year. Scott finally had enough and fired him the end of September. We are at the dry wall, paint, floor and move in is scheduled for December. We…

It was so nice finding birthday wishes from this board. I remember a little less than a year ago when I lost my pup Neko, how kind you are were to me. I now have a wonderful 11 month old dweezil. what is a dweezil you ask? it is a beautiful animal friends rescue puppy. he was found with his siblings under a porch in the city during a fridgidly cold period. they were tiny newborns that were being nursed by a stray dog and kept warm by another adult female. he has much border collie in…

Today our Miss Lilly is 5 months old. I bought her a fancy rain coat a few months ago and waited for the rain. It came today. I was so excited that we were going to be in our matching raincoats walking down Main St. I took the coat out of the package and then showed it to Lilly who mistook it for a new yellow toy. I explained to her that it was her brand new raincoat and we were going to go on a WALK. I am an idiot. she does not know many words, but W>A>L>K is one that she knows…

When I last left off, we were in the middle of a snowstorm in October, my husband was out of town, and a possible power outage was looming. We also established that my husband knows I cannot operate anything with gauges, primers, hoses, safety locks, and leaf and/or snow blowers and is really the one at fault for what I am about to tell you, because he left me at home defenseless and clueless. We also clarified that in the house was my daughter, who…

This past weekend we went to a event that was being sponsored by the Dog Fancier's of Jax, FL. While we were there we met up with a couple that owned Yappy Place in Palm Harbor. Michael Howard is a professional photographer for a magazine for Florida dog owners called "The New Barker". They approached us to see if we would mind if he took pictures of Bailey and possibly use them in their magazine. Don't know if the are magazine quality but they made their FB page. I think they turned…
