Week Two with Ember

Wow, she sure settled in quickly. Ember is an absolute delight to me and everyone who meets her (and she knows it!).

After our first week with some weird digestion issues, all has cleared up and she is happy as can be. All looks good at the vet and she also got her 2nd set of shots. She was such a trooper while I managed to contain my anxiety at the sight of the needles.

Highlights:

- We started a puppy class at a local doggie daycare/boarding…

Cancer, Surgery, Floods, 2 Doods, 2 DSs and 2 Girlfriends

It's been an interesting week, to say the least. Murphy's biopsy came back positive for melanoma, confirmed by the vet school, and he will have radiation in the near future. He had surgery to remove what I hope is a hemangioma on his ankle Wednesday. We are waiting on those results.I am having trouble with him chewing the sutures out. Any suggestions appreciated.

The DSs and girlfriends flew in on Friday. By Saturday morning, we were flooded in with the water rising. (Quite a…

This is Child's Play

Just hanging out today enjoying a chance to read my US Weekly and a cup of coffee while Zoey took a snooze and the phone rings.  My BFF is on the line saying that she is out this way running errands and wanted to know if she could come by for a little bit. Sure...of course.  What she did not tell me was that she had her two little ones with her (5 and 2 1/2 yrs. old).  Zoey has had no experience yet around little kids.  My niece and nephew were around when she first came home, but they are…

The dog park was a blast!

We have a fabulous dog park here in Jax.  It is 42 acres of fenced in areas that are seperated into play areas for small dogs, senior dogs, kids and dogs, agility nature trails and then the mack daddy area with walking trails and open play areas with a pond.

I was really apprehensive about taking Bailey to the park because of some of the horror stories I have heard about dog parks.  But I thought I would at least give it a good try.  We started off meeting the nicest couple…

Lily & the Water Park

Lily & I attended a fund raiser for a local adoption center today.  "Doggie Paddle Pool Party" was a great success!  Lots of dogs, all shapes & sizes.  Availabe for use was an olympic size pool, 3ft kiddie pool, 1ft kiddie pool and a sprinkle park.

This was Lily's first experience in acutally having an opportunity to swim  where she couldn't touch bottom.  She didn't like it much.  We spent most of our time in the 1ft pool and the sprinkle park.  She loved the water slide in…

Good- bye Mojo...

So here is the updated story on our attempt at life with two doodles...

Our first doodle was brought home at 4 months of age...

sort of a second-hand / wouldn't sell right away pup from a breeder.  He is a medium ALD.  We got him Feb 2010.  One year later I was so enjoying this whole dog owning adventure that I really liked the idea of a second…

Poor Perry- Attacked by burrs

Perry is now 4 1/2 months and this morning was attacked by burrs.  He's had the random burr every once in a while that we were able to get out, but now he has hundreds.  They are around his face, around his eyes, in between his pads, the poor guy.

Brian and I worked on it for an hour and have finally relented.  He's going to a groomer in a half hour.  To get shaved.  We've been careful with brushing and getting him used to it and now his first experience at the groomer is…

The Worst of Man Brings out the Best in Man

On a sunny September day 10 years ago, I was at work going about the day just like any other when I passed by a patient,s room to see everyone gathered around the television with looks of horror on their face. I joined them and watched a plane fly in to the first of the Twin Towers. I could not believe what I was seeing and thought what a terrible, terrible accident, but within minutes my sense of horror was multiplied beyond belief as another plane flew into the second tower. It…

Life's lesson in the flood!

My son and I took a one day trip ( was supposed to be one day) to NYC, left Pittsburgh 8 am on Wednesday( about 6 hours drive ).  I do not own  a GPS, but we do this quite often, so we were OK. On the way to NYC, we encountered some heavy rain, and high level of water by Susquehanna river. There were a couple of serious accidents along the way as well...However, we did not think… Continue

Poor Hercules ... Another Vet Visit

I saw a 2” scab on Hercules’ chest and small ones on his back. Diagnosis: staph infection. So, now he has raw boo-boos and is taking 10 pills/day (instead of 6). After returning home from the vet, I put puppy Zeus in the bathroom, went to school, came back home and Zeus had chewed up my brand new bathroom window blinds. How he got his teeth clamped onto anything that's 51" from the floor is beyond me. The joys of Doodle puppyhood, lol!

I was speechless!!

I couldn't decide where to post this - since it's a teacher AND a doodle thing so here goes.  I have a wonderful student teacher who is able to finish my sentences, pick up where I leave off, we often say the same thing at the same time etc.  We are just in sync!!!  I also have co-workers who love their dogs as much as I love Bodi.  Today at lunch during a grooming discussion, my student teacher very meekly said, "I just don't really like dogs. . .I didn't know how to tell you."  We ALL… Continue

The results are in!

Ok folks, are you ready? Now, let me just say first - Huskins is not a doodle of any kind! I know, I know, this is shocking! Yes, that's right, ABSOLUTELY NO POODLE! I am still in disbelief! I never questioned that there was something other than poodle. He just looks like he has it in him somewhere.

Anyway, I think one of the breeds detected in Huskins is pretty obvious. Many of you had already guessed correctly. The second, I actually suspicioned here  just lately. I am totally…

Oh, momma!

After three weeks of a poor appetite and the blahs, Lyric is gearing up for the whelping on October 1--she is ALWAYS hungry now and is feeling much better, although still sleeping a lot. She seems so big to me already that I did a few comparisons to her photos from Litter one. She is much bigger this time--but I don't know if that means she has more puppies (she had 6 last time) or is just "stretched out" from the first litter. Here are some comparisons:

Lyric at 7 weeks with first…

It's Raining Cats and Dogs!!

Here in Pennsylvania it has been raining non-stop since Friday.  I don’t mean look at the lovely sprinkles kind of rain either, but torrential downpours.

Yesterday, I woke up to water in the basement and spent the next couple of hours mopping up the water, moving stuff around, and cleaning downspouts. I might have also called my husband at…

Confessions of a Foster Failure

Yup, that would be me. I know you must be thinking “OMD! It can’t be true!” Ah, but I am happy to say that it is. Miss Lacey (formerly Lucy) has officially become one of the Whitefield Pack.

This poor, stoic girl has gone through so much in her short 3.5 years. First to be born in a puppy mill and then being bred every single time she came into heat just to line this a##&)*e’s pockets. Then to add insult to injury, once the puppy miller was done with her, he/she dumped this poor,… Continue

crazy 5 day's ...what next...maybe some well needed doodle hugs and kisses!

Today was the first time I actually questioned myself about ..why did I put myself through this again... well, I'll start by saying our morning started out with water pouring in our basement because of all the rain we are getting. My son came over to help my poor DH try to figure out how go slow it down. While he was here the Hospice Nurse came to see my dad and my one year old grandson was crawling all over playing with Sophie. Everyone leaves, I put Levi down for his nap and call Sophie to… Continue

Update" Say it ain't so, no more weather events!

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/09/dauphin_officials_advise_harri.html

Good grief, more miserable weather headed our way.  We braced for the earthquake and the hurricane the past week.  And lo and behold here we go again.  It has been raining steadily since ......I dunno, sometime Monday.  By early morning at my home we have had at least 9 inches of…
