When I read about the DK logo competition I thought about trying my hand at it, then quickly dismissed it. I had never taken any kind of graphic design class, or even used Adobe Illustrator that often. The only thing I had going for me was that I enjoy using Photoshop CS5. Then, as the day wore on I started to think that maybe I did want to enter after all. Knowing that many of the entrants were professional designers kind of scared me, and I was worried that my entries would be…

It seems wrong to post a blog THIS long unless it's as funny as Laurie's (Fudge and Vern), but I had to share anyway.
I had been wanting to meet with my trainer for a while for help in fine tuning my handling skills of Boca. However, my trainer lives about 4-5 hours away (depending on driving speed) in Portland OR and, well, it's not the easiest trip for a Mommy to make!
I finally decided it needed to be done and this past weekend was the chosen weekend. I…

In yappy hour Friday I was talking about a big family reunion I was attending today. There were 950 direct descendents on the invite list and there were nearly 350 attendees. I spoke of the cousin's quilt that had been made prior. The pattern is called the Irish Chain. Each of the original first cousins came up with an idea of how they wished to be represented and a square of the quilt was made for them. The other squares were filled with things that represented the family as a whole…

It seemed like the wait was a long one and you were all there with me while I posted a myriad of questions, chipped in with comments when I couldn't keep quiet, stressed about size of crates, brushes, combs, potty and clicker training...the list was endless and in fact is only starting.
The story of my epic journey to bring Riley home is well known by now and is paling into the distant past already. Riley has been part of our family for four whole days now! My house looks like a bomb…

*** OMG I totally forgot to include the worst thing that happened to me this week! My Visa Number got stolen and someone in the UK took a very expensive trip to Spain. After hours of haggling on the phone about it they finally sorted it out. But Sheesh. The thief could have at least taken me with him!!!***
Ok, I'm sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but I am feeling pretty low at the moment and need some DK love. This has been The. Worst. Week.…

Duncan just wanted to say thanks to Nina for the delicious fresh baked goodies he received. The tote bag with his pictures on it was a total surprise and so lovely. The sentiment is just so perfect! We got so excited when the doorbell rang. I let him have one of each and he devoured them. He's currently still sniffing the priority mail cardboard box!

Forgive this post if it has the hallmarks of a rambling oddball but I'm putting it down to happy exhaustion. I crept out during partner snore pauses) of the cottage at 2.30 am to make the 7 am sailing from Northern Ireland which is a three and a half hour drive from home. The sailing was calm and I slept for a half hour. Then I drove and drove and drove, through Glasgow and Edinburgh and high up to the north of Scotland very near the Famous St Andrews Golf Course. I poured a whole…

We leave for our annual summer vacation soon and Fudge and Vern are not going with us. My sister in law has a beach house, and most of my husband’s family meets there once a year. To call it a vacation, might be a slight reach, since about 20 people pile into one house, we still cook, do dishes, and laundry, and in the morning when you want to go for a walk, you have to maneuver through the bodies of sleeping nieces and nephews on the living room floor in order to get out the door.…

Clark told me a cute Natalie story today (there are a dozen of these daily...I'd be a blog hog if I shared them all!).
Natalie was playing outside, hanging out in one half of Boca's crate (which she refers to as a 'boat') that was drying in the sun (I had washed it out before work). All of a sudden Natalie rushes inside repeating "Boca crazy! Boca crazy!"
Clark goes to see what this 'crazy' is all about and sure enough Boca's all hyped up, rolling her…

On Saturday I baked a batch of my grandma's famous homemade chocolate chip cookies for my dad.
As you can see from the below photo, Peri knew exactly where to position herself - directly below my feet! She was anxiously awaiting drops of cookie dough, but lucky for us both, I kept the chocolate away from her :)
Do your doodles do this while you cook?

I took Trav to my daughter’s new house this afternoon, and it’s a good thing there wasn’t a video of this train wreck. First, this daughter is on Trav’s list of Most Beloved People, which means the best way for them to meet would include her wearing a suit of armour and holding a chair and whip to keep him at bay while he does the doggie equivalent of joyful back flips, somersaults and flying-Wallenda-like stunts involving available furniture. There are sound effects too–tiny whining…
