F Scott Fitzdoodle week two and a half update

Has it really been over 2 weeks since F Scott joined us? Time flies when you’re having fun. Scottie loves to play in the backyard with Harlow. There are endless games of Fox and Hound. They run and run and run; then they collapse for a long nap. Scott has turned into a cuddle bug. He loves to put his front paws on our lap, lay his head on our chests and give our chins doodle kisses.

We continue to work at walking around the neighborhood. Scott is still very, very shy. We are…

Learning to be a dog...

Yesterday F Scott took his first real walk on a leash. I just took Scott and Harlow (I think he would have been traumatized by the beagles’ constant stops to mark). I used the brace lead so Scott would be close to Harlow. At first he wasn’t too sure about the leash, but since Harlow seemed to be enjoying herself Scott walked along beside her. We just did a walk around our block. A long the way we met…

F. Scottie - the first week...

It has been a full week since Scottie has been fostered with us. He doesn’t have the self-confidence of his big brother Harvey, but he has come a long way in a week. Amazingly, he has had only 1 accident in the house and that was the morning after he arrived. He hadn’t figured out the stair-thingy yet and was afraid to go down the stairs. But fear of the stairs is ancient history (at least in a dog’s…

F. Scottie - the first few days

Yep, Scottie too, was part of Operation Three Caballeros. He is such a skinny, frightened boy but he is slowly coming out of his shell. Wednesday evening when we got home from the doodle train excursion Scottie wasn’t too sure about his new…

Outside my window this morning

I have my office set up in what use to be our living room. My computer table is situated so I can look out the window to my front yard. This morning I was surfing DK (just like I do every morning) when a large fluttering object caught my eye. I was able to grab my camera and got a picture of ...

a Red Tail Hawk sitting in a small dogwood tree. As I was focusing my camera to get…

Coco Chanel has a new forever family.

I have been holding off posting this but then I saw that Coco is showing adopted on Petfinder. And it is true, she has a wonderful forever family that is driving from upstate New York to Atlanta to pick her up. They will be here next week. Coco will have both a doggie sister and brother. She will be able to romp and play with them on 3 acres filled with lots of good smells.

Coco's new family says that their other dogs ration their kisses so they are excited that Coco…

Coco knee injury update.

Great news on Coco's injured knee. She is doing much much better. She is able to put more weight on her leg every day. She is feeling so much better that she jumped up on my bed for the first time since her injury. When I first walked into my room I just noticed a doodle laying on the bed. I really didn't take in which doodle was it was until Harlow pushed her head in my hand for a scratch. That is when I realized it was Coco in the bed. She was so proud of herself and excited that she could…

Miss Coco is recovering from her banged knee.

Whew! We got the good word from the vet today... No knee surgery for Coco.

Two weeks ago on a Saturday it was pouring down rain and poor Coco had to go "do her business". When she came running back inside she slipped on a wet porch step and bumped her left knee on the step (of course this was the foot I had yet to trim). She came in the house limping. The next Monday she was still limping so off to the vet we went. X-Rays revealed she has a pulled ligament and needs to stay…

Webber and Seda came for a visit.

I am sneaking onto mommy’s computer while she is baking cookies. I keep asking her to tell everyone about the great time I had when Webber and Seda came to play earlier this week. She keeps saying “I will, just let me finish baking cookies” or “give me a few more minutes to finish this web page”. Whatever! I am not waiting on her anymore.

Baxter, Sherlock, Coco and I were stretched out on the living floor just like every other…

One year ago Harlow joined our family

Wow time flies when you're having fun. It is hard to believe it has been a year since Harlow joined our family. We had already picked out a name, Lauren Bacall, and let the breeder know. We were referring to our new girl by Bacall when we went to pick up puppy supplies and setting up her first visit with our vet.

We are not sure how it happened, but somewhere between picking her up at the airport and home, DH and I realized that our girl was really a Jean Harlow. And Harlow is who she… Continue

Brogan begins his new life with his forever family

This morning started out as every other morning; let the dogs out, let them back in and then feed everyone. Brogan and Harlow get fed in the dinning room. Baxter and Sherlock in the kitchen. Black cat, Moonshine got his morning can of cat food in the garage and Cleo had her dish on top of the frig. After that the morning routine changed. Brogan got his going away bath and while he was drying I gathered up the stuff we would be sending with him to his forever home... his paperwork, his blanket,… Continue

Its Official - Brogan has a new forever family

Brogan's forever family is driving up from Florida this Sunday. The dad has already gotten Brogan a new leash, collar, and blanket. Their hearts are ready to fill the empty spot left by the passing of their German Short-haired Pointer. They are big roller-bladers so Brogan will be getting lots of exercise. They have signed him up for obedience classes and will continue to work with him to overcome his digging habit.

Brogan has been a great foster and I know one young doodle who is… Continue

Brogan's first visit to the dog park

Yesterday we took the pack to our local dog park. I was not sure how Brogan would react to all the other dogs at the park. He was a bit reluctant to climb into the car; I had to pick him up and put him in the back seat (Let me tell you, he's no light weight). But who could blame him, the only other car rides he has had probably weren't great experiences. To the shelter in Dothan, AL where his previous owners had dumped him, then a tag team of car rides across Alabama and Georgia to join us; and… Continue

First Opossum Encounter of the Season...

But this was very different than the usual opossum encounters we have every spring & summer. DD went to the garage to get something out of my car. She came back in the house to tell me there was a baby opossum in the garage. Because we have a cat door installed we always get young opossums this time of year taking advantage of an easy dinner of cat food. But this time it truly was a baby opossum. I could hold it in one gloved hand. It was pretty obvious that the little guy was too young to… Continue

F. Brogan's first 2 weeks...

Brogan is doing well and settling into life being an indoor dog and getting fed on a regular basis.

Two weeks ago he weighed 52 lbs; on Friday at the vet he weighed in at 56.7 lbs. That is almost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. But he still looks so skinny. You can still see his bony hips, every vertebra and his ribs. Brogan is a talker and leaner. When you scratch him he leans his head into you and groans with pleasure. He loves rough housing with…

Brogan's first couple days...

Brogan has been with our pack for 1 day and he is already settling in. Based upon how awful he smelled and how matted he was I doubt he ever spent a single day indoors until he joined our pack. But they have been teaching him the potty rules. We have had no accidents. Brogan is very shy around people and tries to avoid them.

We basically let him have his space Saturday and let just sniff and explore. Both Saturday and Sunday nights

he slept…

Meet our new foster Brogan, the digging doodle from Dothan.

Yesterday DH and I took a road trip to Columbus, about 2.5 hours southeast from north side of Atlanta (where we live) to meet a wonderful volunteer from the Dothan Animal Shelter and our new foster boy Brogan. Brogan was owner surrendered because the owner said he digs. Poor guy was a big black smelly mass of mats. Fortunately, the shelter HW tested him and wonders of wonders the test came back negative. After 2 hours of riding with the back windows partially down to counteract the stench we…

Two dog parks in two days... Talk about pooped pooches.

My guys are still sacked out. On Sunday we met up with Frannie/Callie, Judi/Timbow, Krista/Angel and Sue/DH/Finley for a play date at Lewis Park in Marietta. A great time was had by all. We kinda-sorta met another Goldendoodle, but I think all of us gossiping women scared off Kody's (?) dad. It was a very enjoyable 2 hours of convivial conversation and lots of doodle romping.

On Monday I was suffering from cabin fever big time; so I grabbed the pack and headed to the Leita Thompson… Continue

Met 3 doodles in Gulfport, FL this weekend

This weekend I flew down to visit my dad in Tampa. I stayed with my sister who lives in Gulfport. My visit coincided while Gulfport's semi-annual pet rescue festival. The city had closed off one of its main streets to traffic and there were loads of rescue groups (including 1 parrot and 1 rabbit rescue) and vendors. We had a great time walking up and down the street checking out all the pavilions. My sister had her Westie with her so we got to meet a lot of dogs. I met 2 LDs and 1 GD. They were… Continue

Contemplations on being unemployed...

There are some upsides of being unemployed. I have taken the last 2 weeks to savor some well deserved down time. I have to admit that it was a bit of a transition to go from working 55 to 60 hours a week with 24/7 oncall to loads of time on my hands. But I have figured out how to…
