Our new group has been created! Many of you, DK friends, may remember our postings on Friday night about how much fun it would be to have a group where we could get together to have a "DK happy hour". The thought was that we could share recommendations on our favorite wines (or any other beverage of choice) and possibly even have a "live chat". Well, Adina has set our new group up. She's working to get me administrative access so that I can add a description and our logo (which was provided…

Today is Murphy's first birthday. In some ways it feels like he has been with us for so much longer than that. I took a trip through "memory lane" this morning, and I can't even believe how much this guy has changed. It's been such a wonderful journey watching this puppy grow and develop his own "big personality". I will never forget the Friday night that we got our call from DRC that they had a puppy named "Murphy" who needed to be rehomed. I had applied to adopt a little poodle mix…

I decided I should probably add this as a separate blog because I'm really feeling like I may have hijacked Cheryl's Hanukkah discussion, and I don't want to do that. It all started with Karen telling us about the great new PJs she got as a Hanukkah gift, and me saying that I should think about trading my t-shirt and sweat pants nightware for "real PJs". Anyway I just went out and looked for "doggie" PJs. I can't find any Doodle "jamies" online, but I did find these. There is one "Doodley…

Hey Jack, Murphy and I wanted to wish you a really happy birthday today! I can't believe you're SIX years old now....Mom says that's like 40 or 50 in "people years". I think that's why you're so much smarter than most of us here on DK. We're just kids....but you've "been around"...and you know "stuff". You're kind of our hero, Jack. Mom always tells us how good you are....it's "Jack does....", "Jack's such a good boy", "Jack wouldn't do that", "Why can't you be more like Jack", "I'm going to…

So for everyone who knows my two Doods you've probably already answered this question. Guess what, you've probably guessed wrong. Yes, Murphy is "Nice", while his brother, Guinness, is the "Naughty" one. Here's what happened today with "the boys". It was a bit of a frantic day with all the Thanksgiving shopping, cooking and cleaning. While I was in the shower I apparently didn't close my closet door all the way. When I finished with the shower, I noticed there were NO Doods laying there at the…

I just dropped Guinness at the Vet, and they decided to admit him at least for the day to run some tests. I feel like these guys are always sick, and it's making me crazy. I try so hard to do everything I can to keep them healthy, but it doesn't seem to be working. Guinness had an upset stomach on Tuesday, some vomiting and refusing food. I thought it was an IBS flare up, so I didn't worry to much. On Wednesday he seemed fine and wanted to eat again, so I gave him plain chicken and rice, and he…

Hi Doodle friends, Murphy here. Yes, I'm baaack!!! My Mom has been telling me all about your "get well" thoughts and prayers these past few days when I was so sick. You all ROCK! I love you all! Yesterday afternoon I started to feel just like my "old self". Yup, you guessed it guys....my old "naughty" self. Being really sick was a "bummer", but at least I got to postpone the "tough love" that Mom had planned for me. She was feeling very sorry for me, and she was petting me and kissing me all…

So here I am, posting a really "happy blog" about my big goofball, Murph. Apparently he has Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (or some very similar tick borne illness). The alternative was really a very bad thing, so I'm thrilled to death. The Vet said that if he started to show some signs of improvement by tonight, that was "the story". He is definitely showing some signs of 'turning the corner". He's barking at his brother and trying to take his toys, so I guess those are great signs. It has been…

I hardly know where to start. Today was our marathon training day with the two boys. It all started with Guinness's "Nose Class". My trainer gave me a "lecture" (and that's an understatement), because I continue to expect Guinness to comply with his obedience commands. She tells me I have to leave ANY expectations at the door. It's so hard...it's "hard wired" into my brain. So, he wanted to go "nuts" finding the designated scent, but he kept looking back at me for the okay. She says "He's not…

I'm on my very last nerve with my Murph, and he's going to "boot camp". To all Murphy's wonderful "fairy godmothers" (yes, that means you, Karen), don't worry....the boot camp is right here at home. I will not be sending him off to some unknown trainer (although I'm not saying I'm opposed to that in some situations). My Murph has been "feeling his oats" for the past couple of weeks...challenging, testing, and just plain "misbehaving". So, I've been reading like crazy (because that's what I do).…

Tonight while I was downstairs cooking dinner I kept hearing lots of noise coming from upstairs. I didn't think that much about it because DH was up there, and there was no barking or growling.....just a lot of "banging". After a while I got curious, so I went up to investigate. There was DH calmly sitting at his computer....I walked across the hall to our bedroom, and that's when I figured it all out. Mr. Murphy had decided he was sick of the bedding ensemble. Yes, he stripped the bed. Here's…

I'm feeling like a "blog hog", so please forgive me. Today was a traumatic day for Murph (and me too). I could no longer handle the mats from the "coat change", and he could no longer handle me trying to remove them. We were both on our last nerve, and there was no way I could keep up with them. So his gorgeous coat is now in the trash at Petco. I knew this would be difficult for him, so I made poor Guinness go with him....poor guy didn't even need a grooming. The groomer was really sweet, and…

We had the boys at the Vet today which is always a real fun time...they love it there (really). The Vet was with us for quite a while, and most of that time she was playing, hugging, and kissing them (yes, that's why they love it). She made a comment that made me laugh and got me thinking. She said "these guys are so different....Murphy is like the big, goofy Jock, and Guinness is like the little Nerd". She's absolutely right...she "nailed it".
Guinness is so serious about EVERYTHING. He…

Yes, today is a special day for all of our dogs. Guinness and Murphy are planning to milk this for all it's worth. They're saying...remember Mothers' Day when you got all that special attention, Mom - well, today it's our turn! They have compiled the following list of things they would like in celebration of "their day". Check with your Doodles and add to the list..
-Treats every hour, regardless of how we are behaving....and no "fresh veggies". They aren't "real" treats.
-A…

Well we're back from our two weeks at the beach, and the Doods have lots to tell. Overall they were great....although we did have a few "fresh episodes" the first week and we had to join the Naughty Doodles group. By the second week they had adjusted and were able to go out and play in the water off leash in the morning and later in the day when most people had left for the day. There were some grouchy beach people that didn't seem to be very happy with wet Doodles shaking sand all over their…

You've all been hearing that our Murph is getting to be a BIG boy. Well he could no longer fit in any of our dog beds without either his head or his "fanny" hanging off the side. So, when we were in Newport last week we headed for the Black Dog store. They had just what we needed....a huge bed for Murph that actually matched the bedroom. We brought it home thinking he would love it...NOPE, not so much. Here it…

It really is true...Murph has had a bit of a "naughty day", but he is just so darn cute all I can do is laugh. What's up with that? I think it's a "second dog" thing. Why do I always have such high expectations of Guinness, but not Murph. It's just WRONG! Murph just has this way of looking at me with a goofy "cocked head" and I melt. I can't get upset with this dog. Soon he'll be walking me on a leash. Today's examples (in addition to eating the tick)....
I went to pick up some things…
