This is another awesome slide show. What totally blows my mind is how many of our dogs look alike. I kept seeing other Doods that I would swear were Guinness...but I knew they couldn't be because I didn't take the picture.

Guinness and I finally had a quiet day alone today. For the past several days, his life has been very full...lots of excitement and company. He was a bit "needy" today, probably because he was feeling a little bored. I noticed that he has a total hierarchy of "moves" to get me to pay attention to him. First, he sits by me and stares directly at me. If that doesn't work, he puts his head on my lap. If that doesn't work, he jumps up on the side of the chair. If that doesn't work, he starts…

We've been talking this week about indestructible toys, and I was thinking that with Guinness nothing is indestructible (except the heavy duty Kong). I thought I'd share the toys he's managed to destroy in the past two weeks. It usually only takes a couple of hours before I have to take the toy away...he gets so mad when he sees me throw in in the garbage when there's still stuffing left to be eaten. Here's the picture of the latest round of ruined toys...…

I really hope I'm not "overblogging", but Guinness has been going through a really funny stage, and I feel compelled to share with fellow Doodle Nuts. Twice in the past two days Houdini has escaped from his crate while we were out. It's a soft sided crate with a zipper in the front. Both times he was tightly zipped in. Somehow he figured out how to unzip from the inside. It's freakng us out because we can't understand how he does it. The zipper "handles" are on the outside. It's crazy. So,…

This morning, I woke up & kissed my dad's head.
I peed on the carpet, then went back to bed.
"The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great."
Then I thought about breakfast," I hope it's not late."
Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.
This never fails to make Mama smile.
I sniffed of everything, that we did pass,
I ate something weird - it gave me gas.
I'm sure God loves me, I know that is true.
He gave me so many great things to…

I've been trying to be so conscientious with Guinness's diet lately. He's getting Blue Buffalo chicken which I supplement with home cooking (chicken, a little rice, and some vegies). Last night I gave him some green beans with his dinner. Oh, he was not a happy camper. He kept looking at me like I had lost my mind. I ignored his reaction, and then I noticed he was picking them all out (and they were totally mixed in with the "good stuff"). As he picked each one out he gave me a really dirty,…

With this week's slideshow on Doodles with their friends I thought this would be cute (although not a Doodle, so not as cute as it could be). "Sometimes when you're angry with someone, it helps to take some time to cool off and think about the problem". LOL

Guinness just completed Basic Agility, and he is being "Held Back". No moving on the next level for him. The Trainer was telling all the other Moms to be sure and get their dogs signed up for Intermediate. Then she mentioned to me that Guinness probably needed to redo "Basic". She was really nice, and said "he's just a puppy" and it would really be helpful to him to go through it again. Kind of the same story my Kindergarten Teacher daughter gives parents when she doesn't think the child is…

I keep reading that dogs only live in the moment, and they really don't remember what's happened in the past. I've often wondered about that. Here's a video of a dog welcoming home his soldier "Dad" from Afghanistan. Certainly appropriate for the day after Veterns Day. Clearly, this dog remembered! This video brought tears to my eyes. Here's the link....

Guinness goes to Doggie Daycare once a week. He loves it. Now he knows where he is as we pull into the driveway and his whole "bum" shakes (tail wagging like crazy) because he's so excited. When I pick him up they always give me a "report" about how his day went....sort of like when you pick up your kids from daycare. It's pretty funny, but they take it all seriously. Usually I hear things like "he had such a great time and ran and played so well with the other dogs". Not today. I knew from the…

After reading the cockapoo discussion I looked back at Guinness's " registration family tree, and he actually does have cockapoos in his breeding background. Going back five generations Rutland Manor ALDs were bred with Rutland Cockapoos. This actually occurred in the fourth and fifth generation back. I'm really curious about why this would have been done. I'm assuming there would have to be some characteristics that the breeder was looking for. Does anyone have any thoughts on why a breeder…

I was thinking this morning about how different life is with Guinness now that he's through the young puppy stage. I thought it might give hope to all the new puppy moms and dads who are wondering when they'll get their lives back. I remember times a few months ago when I felt like taking care of our doodle pup was a full time job...and it seemed like I was always worried about something. Things are different now, and in many ways I'm different too. At seven months, we have him on a great potty…

Guinness is 6 months now and still only weighs 13.5 pounds. He is supposed to be a small/medium ALD. Sometimes I worry about him, especially when I read about how big others in this category are. He isn't a huge eater, but he does eat well. The last time he was at the vet (4wks ago for shots) she said he was healthy. At this rate, I don't think he'll ever even get to 20 pounds. His mom was a small medium and his dad was a medium...both larger than Guinness.

I should also have added that over the past two days he is licking himself much more frequently than he had been. Could be related?

For the past few days Guinness has been very thirsty..and it's not even hot here. He drains his water dish and then looks for more. As a result, he's having to Pee often (at least every one to two hours) and has started having little accidents (very unusual). Any thoughts on why he would be this thirsty?

I've got the first puppy grooming blues....Went to Pet Smart for trim around his face, bath, ears, etc. He hated it...cried through the whole thing. They blew him dry which made him have "big hair". My husband thought I had the wrong dog. And, he really smells like a girl wearing very cheap perfume. Looks like I'll be learning how to do this myself for the future.

It's been raining non-stop for days in CT, and we are expecting it will be another six days before we see any sun. Indoor play is now getting really boring for our puppy. Any thoughts out there on fun things for them to do inside to blow off steam when it's pouring out?
