Vet Fees

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead," replied the vet.

"How can you be so sure?" she protested... "I mean you haven't done any testing on him…

More random pictures...

On the way home from Puppy Class (on graduation day!) wearing his doggie seat belt:

Being accosted by my 2 year old son in his crate... the two year old LOVES Sammy dog... but I am pretty sure that Sammy simply tolerates my son Teagan and the love fest is not mutual at this point...…

Gave in to the cute puppy dog...

So we have had Sammy for about 7 weeks now. Seems like he has been ours for longer than that though. Can't quite image not having him! He is our first family pet and first dog and it has been a whole new experience for our family. I have 4 boys ages 11, 7, 7, and 2. One of the twin boys prompted the purchase of Sammy --he has been asking for a puppy or dog for well over a year but I was waiting until the baby got bigger and I felt ready and could make a time commitment to a puppy. I liked the… Continue

finally ready to deal with some old pictures in camera of my baby Houdini

Before I knew we had to put Houdini to sleep this summer I had taken some pictures of him. I have not been able to look at them, or develop them. I was just looking at some new pictures of Achilles and kept going to the pictures of my other boy. The only place I thought to share this traumatic event was here on DK. I know all of you would understand and appreciate it. So here is a picture of one of the loves of my life. Houdini was smart, sensitive, hysterically funny just a joy to have in my… Continue

She Bolted!

Last night, my youngest was walking Phoebe around our front yard--think super tiny yard with me beside him and Phoebe in her head collar which makes her a super listener..usually). My daughter decided to try to upset my son by racing in front of him...can you imagine what happened next? Phoebe took off after her like a shot and my son tripped and fell letting go of the leash. I remained 'eerily calm' as my DH told me and followed her into the back to see where she was headed while I sent DH…

Happy 1st Birthday, Hershey!!!

I can't believe Hershey is 1 years old today! It seems like we just brought him home. I still feel like like we are going through crazy Puppydom, in fact we still are. Hershey is a goofy as ever. He can run by the coffee table and steal something right off, without skipping a beat! His walk looks more like a "Poodle Prance" and a "Labrador Walk" Hershey thinks he's a "LAPradoodle" rather than a "Labradoodle" at 86 lbs, that can be a bit… Continue

Happy Happy 1st Birthday to Lady Peri!

It seems only yesterday I got the call from our breeder - she said "I am sorry, the litter was smaller than anticipated and we do not have enough males for you". Yes, I was on the list for a male. A few days later, she emailed me asking if I wanted a female - the people ahead of me on the waitlist wanted males only and decided to wait for another litter. I said "ABSOLUTELY YES!", called DH and he said "I secretly wanted a girl!".

Done deal, rest is history. I am in love with…

Who are you and what have you done with Wilbur??

Wilbur got neutered this past Thursday, and was pretty mopey until Saturday morning (evidently, me making him a bunch of chicken didn't really make up for me having his testicles removed!). We had a pretty normal weekend, with one exception...Wilbur figured out how to break out of the kitchen. To be fair, it is closed with french doors and a few good solid jumps will open it. Wilbs had just not attempted this previously. He's been such a good boy, that I really didn't fret over it too much.…

BostonTerrier not liking Wilson

I have a big huge question and was wondering if any of my friends have a answer. We went to Chicago to visit family this past weekend, and Wilson came along. My niece has a Boston Terrier cute dog , but when wilson saw him he turned to me and put his head in my lap, He was telling me please do not make me visit with this dog around. We kept Wilson outside and was playing with him, Kelly took Murphy out on his leash I kicked a soccer ball, toward Wilson but unfortunately to ball rolled near… Continue

Puff Balls Everywhere

Oh my. . . for the past couple of months--after virtually no shedding at all--Chervil has started dropping big clumps of hair. She has a very thick, soft wavy-curly coat--and it takes considerable grooming to keep it in good shape. I brush her every night, and now I'm getting brush-fulls of hair. It's a bit like the worst of both worlds: lots of maintenance, and shedding, too. I just got a furminator, which pulled out a freaking' ton of hair. I'm hoping this is her baby coat (although she's 15… Continue

Im officially doodle crazy..... watch out for the signs - it could happen to you!

I've had dogs before..... big ones, small ones, scruffy ones and gruffy ones.... but never have I joined forums about dogs.

Never before have I spent more time looking for doggie collars and doggie beds than looking for anything for myself. He even has a jumper (for when he gets his hair cut and its cold!).... and a dressing gown (for when he's wet!).

I even have a sweatshirt with my favourite picture of my… Continue

Meet Zeke

DK members, Barbara, Lee and Lexi Seidman & I drove last Monday to a kill shelter in Naples, Florida to pick up their first foster for the DRC. Zeke is a 3 year old, 85 lb, aprioct and blond F1 LD. He is the most sweet, loving, quiet, polite, ball obsessed, well trained boy. He comes when called - even in the park! He sits when asked & walks beautifully on the leash. Zeke is not the typical 'silly' Doodle like my Charli, but he is more serious like my Samantha. They actually look…

The ups and downs of Spring in Atlanta...

Spring has officially sprung here in the ATL. Here are some highlights of the good: It is truly gorgeous...bright green grass, flowering trees, and brilliant yellow forsythia (a favorite of mine) everywhere you look. Thirsty Dog Tavern (a bar where you can bring your dog) has at long last opened and I can't wait to take Callie...they will have milkbone hunts and a kibble menu (how cute is that?). The weather has been lovely, and Callie, Wilbur, and I have been going on marathon walks…

F. Brogan's first 2 weeks...

Brogan is doing well and settling into life being an indoor dog and getting fed on a regular basis.

Two weeks ago he weighed 52 lbs; on Friday at the vet he weighed in at 56.7 lbs. That is almost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. But he still looks so skinny. You can still see his bony hips, every vertebra and his ribs. Brogan is a talker and leaner. When you scratch him he leans his head into you and groans with pleasure. He loves rough housing with…

What's in a name........

OK, so the name I keep coming back to is Hines Ward, after my favorite Pittsburgh Steeler. Here is a comparison between Hines Ward (Steeler's wide receiver) and (possibly) Hines Ward (doodle):

I see Doodles everywhere!

Is it my imagination but as soon as I get a Labradoodle...everyone I see has one??? How is that possible??? I pick the most awesomest dog breed mix in the whole wide world....and everyone follows me?? How is that possible...again I ask?? LOL!

I have a few comments: 1. Why is it that when Samson does not eat his food, and I sprinkle it with parmesan cheese, he gobbles it up...and 2. How I love love love the front page picture slide show. I…

Quinn's first appointment with an allergy specialist

*Copied from the Atopic Dermatits Support Group. Join us if you're having allergy issues!*

I could kick myself for not doing this sooner.

We had our first appointment with the specialist today, and what a great fit. He's super nice, and seems extremely knowledgeable about seizures in addition to allergies, which is very important for us. (Quinn is epileptic.) In a very nice way, he explained all the things our general vet has done wrong so far. First off, of course, he said… Continue

Brief Doodle Update.....pictures to follow soon!!!

Yay! The Doodle has arrived. Yesterday was a BIG day for me and the Dood. After we left Dixie's, it took about 5 minutes for the puppy to get out of his harness and seat belt. SIGH. So I am driving on I-35 and trying to stuff my face with a Chick-Fil-A Wrap at 3 pm in Friday before Easter traffic, north of Austin TX, while a chocolate Doodle is climbing over the console of my car and trying to get in my lap. Let the puppy shenanigans begin!!! So, we pull over, re-adjust harness, and get back on… Continue

Spring Days at Sunset Beach

The Two Doodles have had a good time at Sunset Beach this week! But Java Joe has been demonstrating some bad behaviors! This will have to be corrected immediately!

Joe is hyper. Super smart, but hyperactive to the max! I have known this since I took him to puppy class expecting him to be a star. Joe knew everything Capp knew when he was just 6 months, and Capp who is 6 months older had been… Continue

Puppy Class Graduate!!

So proud of our little Sammy! He is now officially a puppy class graduate. We will even send off for the AKC STAR Puppy training medal because I know my 7 year old will like it. I am really proud of my son too. Class has been on Friday nights and I know some times he would rather have stayed home to play with friends but he never complained and he is really quite a shy kid but he clearly and loudly will call his dog in front of a group of people. He does really well with Sammy. We will… Continue
