Remington ate my CROCS!

Today has been a trying day! UHHHGGG! Remington discovered the love for shoes today and how enjoyable it can be to chew them! I went downstairs in the afternoon to find my CROCS chewed to bits! SERIOUSLY! GRRR! He has becoming a trying teenager! I am at my wits end!!!!!!!!!!! What happened to my perfect angel of a puppy??? Please tell me this is just a phase and he'll grow out of it!

Some other things he has learned to enjoy are the following...

And how does he repay me?

I just gave Porter the pan filled with gelatin from a baked chicken--all for him to lick. And how does he repay me, by cleaning his face on my leather (thank God) couch. He slithered his face along the cushions and around the sides. Ew. Maybe the fat will condition the leather...

Can I decrease his barking in a week?

Just some background info. I have a 4yr old doodle and 2 of her pups, both 15wks old, one of which I am keeping and the other has finally found his forever home and will be leaving Sept 1st. I have to get control of the barking before Henry, the 15wk old puppy, leaves my home and goes to his forever home next week. Henry is a barker, barks at people walking by the fence, barks at the neighbour walking out of his house, and last week, barked like a mad man at the little dog at the vets. It has… Continue

She did it! (or engineer needed).

Well, what to do on a rainy, hot and humid day. Play indoors with your dogs and write about it. Much better than doing paperwork or other chores. Luca loves to catch balls and he started to do this when he was about a year old, I think. He always loved to chase them. Calla, now 7 months just ran after him. She never attempted to catch a ball when I threw it to Luca. Well, today i gently lobbed balls from a short distance practically into her mouth and, by jove, she caught the ball several… Continue

Visiting Grandview

Today my oldest daughter Brittany and I finally took our "road trip" to visit Grandview Labradoodles, and owner/breeder (and former classmate) Jennifer Bartlett, and all her wonderful little puppies! It was so much fun, and very educational. I have to admit that I had never met a labradoodle bfore today, other than through the internet. Her dogs, of all ages and sizes were all so beautiful and sweet! One,… Continue

Attention Former Couch Potatoes and Human Paperweights

I would love to hear how welcoming a doodle into your life has positively impacted your exercise regimen. I am walking daily and doing some light stretching, for instance, so that I can be ready to meet my soon-to-be-born doodle's exercise needs. How has having a doodle helped you? What do you do exercise-wise that you didn't do before? Let's help one another! ;)
Hugs, Kathy

Have I created a MONSTER?!?!

It has been a rough week for our family. Dan's uncle passed away Sunday of a massive heart attack at age 56 leaving behind 3 beautiful children and his wife. This was so hard on our family as everyone was extremely close. Then I also found out this past week that 2 of my close friends who recently got pregnant lost their babies... so it has been very sad and hectic around our home as we have been running around trying to help our family get things in order and be with the… Continue

Ouch! Harlow looks more like a Poodle than a Doodle!

Harlow went to the groomer today. Same groomer, third visit, but a totally different doodle came home today. Not sure what the groomer was thinking, maybe she forgot that Harlow wasn’t a poodle. From the top of Harlow’s head to the just-about pomp of her tail, she looks like a poodle. So much like one in fact, I could probably get an ILP from the AKC. I am going to have to find a good picture of a good doodle clip and keep it with me!

If I didn't love this dog....

Toby was one this month. He has been house trained for quite some time. And yet - occasionally he pees on the rec room carpet. Stupid dog. Why? I have no idea. There is no rhyme or reason - no pattern - no nothing. It's just once in a while. He may have been outside recently even. It is just so darn frustrating. I'm almost at the point where he is going to be banned. That would be a shame, as we are currently re-doing the basement, and will do most of our t.v. watching down there. But the re-do… Continue

Snuggle Puppy!

There is a Sandra Boynton board book that we have called, "Snuggle Puppy". My kids (and husband) all know that Mommy loves to snuggle. But....They get to a certain age, and start (the nerve!) refusing to snuggle with me! My baby Laila has reached that age, at 13 months unbelievabley... My puppy, Sable, a large mini, chocolate ALD; comes home in two weeks and one day... Two nights ago I wanted to cuddle so bad I went and got my 13 months old out of her crib, (she was soulnd asleep, curled up in… Continue

High Maintenance

Just realized the Doodle is a high maintenance dog. I can hardly keep up with his eye boogers in the morning. I think I have his eyes clean, and then I realize I just moved them down to his whiskers. I am glad I have my sister in law, the ex groomer to help me with nails, ears and the like. I am thinking I should offer to pay her, for all the work. I may have to rethink that. It has been so hot here the last few days, Riley does his thing and wants right back into the air conditioned house. As… Continue

ARGH! Some people are just so ignorant.

Today I was speaking with an associate. He was complaining how he has been so busy trying to find a doodle for his kids. I told him I hoped that he would consider getting a rescue, as I know there is one available in Fargo (which is a 3 hour drive, and within his territory). Well, me and my big mouth! That just opened the floodgates to his little brain. It went something like this:

Are you kidding? I'm not paying $300 for a "rescue" dog! blah, blah, blah! Then I tried to explain that… Continue

18 weeks old, and 10 weeks in!

Hi everyone, and a special "Hi" to all Penny's fans who were dismayed at my announcement to discontinue the weekly blogs. So as I like to make people happy (to quote an American phrase: "I'm such a suck up"), I will continue as long as I can come up with enough subject matter to entertain you all...."Yay!" I hear you all cry...I hope so anyway!

Penny is a little over 4 months old now and we visited the vets on Tuesday for her last kennel cough shot, she weighed in at 32lbs, so from… Continue

Ugh! I am too old to be up this late...

Oh, the thrill of working in IT. Here it is, almost 1:00 AM EST and I have been sitting on the phone for over an hour facilitating a production outage call. We are at the point in the call where the only sound is that of mad tapping of fingers on keyboards and muttered expletives of frustrated programmers

So I thought I would use the opportunity to surf DK. =)

Harlow and I have signed up for an intermediate obedience class that starts on 9/20. And joy of joys, the… Continue

Two hours of intimacy

Even thougth Charlie will comply with grooming as long as she has her Kong with favorite stuffing, she was never a fond of being groomed. I always have to hurry up and rush through while the supplies ( Kong stuffing ) lasted.

Now she is 8 months old, matting stage has started... I even thought about sending her to Roxanne - groomer - since she is really good with her. But that will not be good for my finance!

During this dilema, my son told me this....

" Ma, you just don't… Continue
