I can't believe I've had Ludo for going on 8 weeks and he'll be four months old this week. He had his last set of shots and did great (no nipping!) and the vet said he was super charming :) I remember seeing this particular vet with Ricky and not really liking her. Well this time... she was AWESOME! She interacted with him and brought good treats in her pocket (compared to the…

So I swear my dogs are the biggest chickens or they are just screwing with me. I love them and would never trade them for any other dog, but they are the the worst guard dogs in the history of EVER! At least to my knowledge (this is how it is on TV so it has to be true, right?), when there is a knock at the door or the doorbell rings, the normal dog will go and see what's up. Um, not today. Not sure why but today Loki and Moose have decided that they don't want any visitors and…

Hi Friends!
So couple things about me: I LOVE holidays and get childishly excited about them. Also I am a "camera sergeant" as my brother calls me. I have to take pictures of everything and that includes my dogs which means they are subjected to pictures that I'm sure they would rather not do, but we now have a great routine and they know this means many treats followed but bully sticks (the only time they get them).
Having black/dark colored dogs is…

Dear Jack….
I don't want to forget a minute of the last several weeks that I have had you all to myself. I don't know what it is about you, or how you know, but you just know exactly how to melt me.
I can't believe in four months you are going to be seven years old…. My sweet little puppy I remember the first time I heard your tail thumping against the crate.
Since we are on the count down until you go back to Grammies and I go back to Boston…

This was, again, a really low-key week of just working from home, but more like playing-with-Ludo-from-home, really. I am lucky to have automated a lot of what I do so I can do all this playing without falling behind on anything else.
It turns out that I'm kind of spineless when it comes to extending how long Ludo goes between potty breaks. He's Poochie Bell trained and rings the bells every time now (plus some) and we have not had any accidents in several…

We are lucky in that we don't have a flea problem. However, we have just received four rescue puppies several months old that were absolutely crawling with fleas. Of course we will use Frontline and also Capstar pills.
However, for immediate control using flea spray or flea soap is problematic when intending to use Frontline.
We were advised by a pet supply store owner (who is also a rescue dog person) that she initially bathes her rescue dogs in a solution of Blue Dawn dish…

Hello everyone,
So I decided for the Christmas Card exchange I would dress the boys up and let me tell you they are not thrilled at the idea.... Loki just sat there and seemed confused and Moose looked so miserable and finally just flopped over. So I haven't looked through my pictures on my camera yet to see if there are any good ones to use- hopefully! At least…

We microchip all of our rescue dogs and register the microchip with Free Pet Chip Registry https://freepetchipregistry.com/
We use this service because it is (as the name indicates) free. We register the rescue dog in our Maltese Rescue California name, rather that just advise the adopter to register the dog. That way, the new owner can transfer registry to his/her name or if the owner neglects to register the dog, that dog is still…

Ludo's been home for about four and a half weeks now and I love him more every day.
The last two weeks have been busy but low key. Ludo graduated from puppy preschool on Saturday. This class was mostly just for learning appropriate socialization and let me tell you... with Ludo, it was necessary. He had such a hard time starting out first with being nervous and then with being a bully. He finally caught his stride in the third week when he met his match in a Wheaton…

This question ‘pups’ up all the time in Facebook groups and the Labradoodle forums: what coat do you think my pup will get?
Will it grow to look Doodle-ish?
And I assume that when the owner says 'Doodle-ish', he/she refers to a fluffy fleece or curly fleece coat.
Now, with all those different Labradoodle types being bred, it's hard to determine beforehand what the coat will look like
(unless you have an Australian Doodle, in which case…

Hi all!
Part of this past week I was in Florida visiting my family and my doodles went to stay with my friend who has dogs herself and a nice fenced in yard for them to run around in. Well.... apparently two boys (mine!) had decided that they grass was greener on the other side and dug out under her fence. Thankfully- I was on a plane home, so I came home in time for them to be rescued and I didn't even know they had ran away until they were found. Now both of these guys are…

As most of you know, I have been grooming my doodles their whole lives. Murphy is 7 and Bella is 5 and neither have ever been to a groomer. I started mostly because Murphy is such a nervous Nellie and we just knew he would be so upset, so I didn't want to stress him with the whole experience.
I've always enjoyed my time with them and since I was a hairdresser, years and years ago, it was never that intimidating. Hair always grows back and besides, they are both pretty forgiving when I…

Hello all, haven't been very active as of late, my grandmother passed away and I've been adjusting to that. I will say Brisco has been amazing during this time, sensing my emotions and really comforting me.
But he needed some comforting himself here recently bc he got very ill, very fast. It started on a Friday, we woke up to find he had vomited Thursday's dinner up completely undigested. He had eaten around 7 pm on Thursday and around 8 am Friday morning it all came up. At first…

Ludo has been home for two weeks now. I can really tell that he's grown.
It's funny because since we spend so much time together, he's never really that excited to see me. I'm just the one stopping him from doing all the rascally things he tries to do. He wags his tail and gets excited when everyone else walks in and I seemed to be just left sitting around with no one to get excited about me. Well a few days ago, I left him with my mom to meet my sister for a shopping trip.…

Belle seems to be fine - her usual lively, hungry self. Hopefully the next two days will be as symptom free. This morning Belle and I went straight to Bed, Bath and Beyond and used one of my many coupons to purchase a small trash can with a secure lid for the bathroom. What puzzles me is that right next to the open trash can yesterday was an enclosed receptacle for dirty diapers that I bought last winter when I got tired of falling on ice taking animal poop to the garbage (my terrier uses…

More adventures of Belle the labradoodle (it's a good thing she's so cute). This afternoon a friend visited with her brand new granddaughter. The baby was adorable, and Belle was very gentle with her during their brief introduction to one another. As my friend and I admired the baby and chatted, Belle lay on her mat chewing on a bully stick. Shortly after my friend left, I discovered that the bully stick had morphed into a tiny, pee-soaked diaper. Apparently my friend had left one in…
