Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello all,
Loki had his second observation today and it went really well! There were so many nice people that we got to meet and it really made me even more excited for him to be doing work as a Therapy Dog. We went to a nursing home that was part assisted living and part Alzheimer's assisted living. We did our usually mini-walk around the grounds first, I use this time to get Loki used to walking with me and this isn't "a run or the dog walk type thing" and met the observers…

Just like clothes make the man, the coat makes the dog.
And in the case of Doodles that is saying a lot, as every owner who’s ever seen his dog after it decided to go for a swim is well aware.
The natural purpose of a dog’s coat is to protect its skin and organs, and thick long coats are generally intended to prevent hypothermia and therefore serve a practical purpose, even though there is nothing wrong with it from an aesthetic point of view either. In…

The week is finally here! After almost a year, selection for the puppies is just a few days away! It starts on September 17!
Truth be told, I'd been feeling a little *something* lately. It wasn't at ALL that I wasn't excited about a puppy or anything like that, but I think I was expecting the process to be a little bit different. I've only had two videos and a few sets of photos since the puppies were born. Maybe that really is totally sufficient since in their first few…

Ruby is usually game for anything as long as she is with her people.
Right now I am trying to teach her to read.

The Frenchies came back on Labor Day weekend! They arrived with my grandson and his parents and are the price we have to pay if we want to see our grandson. I love these little guys, but can honestly say that people who have four dogs are nuts. It seems to me as if everyone in the house is free to move around freely, except me. If I so much as move to get a drink, I have four dogs following me into the kitchen to see what I am doing. We are also the people voted most likely to sleep…

Loki wow-ed me today. He had his therapy dog exam which he passed with flying colors and to be perfectly honest he did sooo much better than I would have expected. I was debating not even testing him and waiting until January, when they would be testing again. I spoke to an evaluator and she vey plainly asked me some questions and I said I think the two things he could get hung up on would be leave it and passing another team with a dog. She simply said "why not test him? If you fail, you…

Today I discovered that Brisco doesn't care for rain... Well, lets start from the beginning. Yesterday (or today depending on where you are) was my volunteer day at my sons school so Brisco had to hang out at home for a bit on his own. Normally rain, volunteer day ect would be just another day but I have had a tooth ache for 2 days and can't get into the dentist until tomorrow; needless to say I dont feel great. But being a mom you know sometimes you just have to suck it up. U…

I am a little shy about blogging but I also want to share my stories so here goes nothing...
It has been exactly 3 weeks since we brought our wonderful boy Brisco home in case you didn't know he is a 10 month old black goldendoodle. We knew pretty quickly that he was now where he was suppose to be. I'm not going to lie though I was nervous, he was a BIG puppy and a rehome, already having 2 owners before us. This is…

Her name was Mama Mia and she was my constant and loyal companion for over 13-years who developed a brain lesion very suddenly. She could not stand, foamed at the mouth and did not recognize me! Thankfully she didn't have to suffer long. Judy and I were with her as our vet put her out of her misery.
It's a great loss but, I look around and our rescue dogs and think about all the…

I often get dog owners commenting that their Doodle puts up a fight when he gets brushed.
That 'fight' can vary from not wanting to sit still, to downright growling or even biting the brush, especially when still a puppy.
If a dog doesn't want to be brushed, it's not the dog that's to blame, but the owner!
His negative energy, the wrong habituation, the wrong method of brushing, the wrong bush, or all of it combined.
Brushing should be a pleasant experience.…

It's not rare for me to receive emails from dog owners whose Labradoodle of 7 to 12 months old has felted.
Some will then claim that the fur was tangle-free to start with, until the moment they left their Doodle with someone else for a few days where suddenly the fur coat ended up felted.
Now, that's impossible.
A coat will never just go fully felted within a day, so when I inquire as to what kind of brush and grooming materials the dog owner uses, the answer is more…

We went to our favorite beach last night. We got lucky and it was low tide which means they didn't have to run around the rocks. Lots of room to run and play. Sorry, some of the pics are dark. It was evening and there was a storm blowing in.…

Here is a link the Hope For Paws Flicker Album on saving Pepsi and Cola. They are two young poodles who were heroically rescued by Eldad Hagar of Hope For Paws. Pepsi and his sister, Cola, were living in a sewer tunnel under 14 lanes of Los Angeles freeway traffic.

My puppy's litter was born on Thursday. They are Australian Labradoodles and are 2 boys and 4 girls.
I am the third in line to pick and had kind of been freaking out because I've always been dead set on getting a boy, not for any real reason- just what I've always had. After allowing myself to settle down, I realized that I'd be totally happy with a girl and have gotten myself settled and excited about the opportunity to have a puppy of either…

So I'm beginning to think I may be going through "empty nest" syndrome!
We have had Sophie now for 10 months and I love her to pieces! She has brought such happiness and joy to the everyday, that I can't seem to remember what it was like without her in the house. She is smart, inquisitive, sensitive and social like no other animal I have met.
My current problem right now is I "think" I would like to add another Australian Labradoodle to our household. With the kids all gone…

My niece and great nephew made another visit to see and interact with the puppies, who are now 4 weeks old. What a difference just one week makes! Wow! This post shows the growth of lime boy. (If interested, I posted pictures of all the puppies on my page yesterday) I live 4 hours away and my niece is within a few miles of the puppies. My breeder welcomes them at any time. We face timed for about 20 minutes. Oh, I love technology. Could someone please invent a way to touch through a…

When I first got Fudge and then Vern, I thought I was just getting two dogs. I had no idea that these two Doodles would open up a whole new world to us and help us make friends from all around the world. I seriously think I have a Doodle friend in almost every state in the US and I know I have a wonderful friend from Ireland. Well, I am now here to tell you that I have two wonderful friends in Newfoundland, Canada, and there is a dog there that I dearly love.
A pretty…

We have been experiencing massive puddles in our bedroom. We ruled out our Maltese Rescues because the size of the puddle was too large for such a little dog.
The blame fell on Holly who was the only dog large enough to make such a large puddle.
Holly has been completely house trained for over seven years and we couldn't figure out why she reverted to this puppy type behavior. We brought her to our vet for a complete physical work-up with no physical problems…
