I have had the flu for two days. My two nurses, Fudge and Vern, are very different in their approach. Fudge checks on me constantly to make sure I am ok. Vern runs in briefly, but doesn't want to be detained in any way. He is a busy boy. Luckily, my DH came home early from work to help me out. I told him I haven't eaten anything all day and still felt bad. However, when I told him I did not even have the energy to get on DK, he said, "Wow! Now I know you are really sick." From now on, that…

On January 10, 2011, our little Vern will be one year old. There was a time in my life that I declared that we were not getting any more dogs. It didn't take long for me to change my mind and I started searching for our next dog. Along came Fudge and we fell head over heels in love with her, but then I got it in my head that two dogs might be better than one. How very lucky we are that our second dog is Vern. He has filled our lives with joy and his antics never fail to leave a smile on our…

I have come upon a sure fire way to stop Vern from drinking from our toilet. Before Christmas, I bought a Talking Snowman holding a plunger. Hallmark makes them and the snowman is motion activated so if anyone goes into our bathroom it starts talking. It says stuff like, "Whatcha Doing In Here?...Pull up a seat and make yourself comfortable....Ho Ho Ho, Who has to go? etc." Well, various members of my family keep turning the little guy off, but today I turned him back on and Vern went into…

My daughter, her new husband, and their French Bulldog, Bonzai, came home to PA for the Christmas Holidays. Vern and Bonzai have become best friends. Fudge loves them both, but treats them like they are her annoying little brothers. My daughter says that Fudge is too smart for Vern and Bonzai and they just can't keep up with her smart games. She worded it a little differently. Vern and Bonzai prefer to wrestle and take turns pinning each other. Fudge jumps in from time to time to keep them…

On Christmas Day our Fudge has her second birthday. I cannot believe it was almost two years ago that my daughter and I drove 600 miles to pick her up in Indiana. She has brought a lot of joy and love to our household and we cannot imagine our life without her! Happy Birthday, sweet Fudge!…

This is Fudge checking in this week. My mom is having a cookie party this weekend and she has been doing nothing but cleaning and baking. We are fed up! Vern wasn't here last year for the last cookie party, so he doesn't know what it is all about yet. She says she loves this party, but she yells a lot the week before. Vern is pretty messy, so she seems even grumpier this year. We are bored, so we have been making our own fun and today, we figured out how to knock the gate (well, is it just a…

Last night, Vern had his last Basic Obedience class. The instructor had three games to play for prizes and Vern won two. I have been very busy lately and have not been as diligent as I should with his training, but still he did great. We had to put him in a sit/stay, go out of the room, behind a door, and see if he could maintain it for 60 seconds with no corrections. HE DID IT! You would have thought he won the Nobel Peace Prize and not a pack of poop bags, I was so excited. I told him I knew…

I tried to get some pictures today of Fudge and Vern wearing Reindeer antlers for the Holiday Card Exchange. Vern was very cooperative. Fudge, on the other hand, kept taking them off her head and running away with the antlers. She even pulled them off of Vern's head. I was able to get a couple of out takes.…

Well, I found a bee costume I bought last year on the clearance rack for Fudge. I did not have Vern yet, so I just bought one. Unfortunately, Vern has already outgrown a XL. I am going to have to start shopping at the Big and Tall Dog shop for him. Both Dogs were good sports. …

I knew some of you would like that title. My husband and I have a king size bed and it always seemed like enough room until we got our doodles. Now, I like sleeping with our dogs, but my DH does not like sharing his space. Every night, Vern and Fudge start out on our bed while I watch TV. I know I have said in previous posts that neither of my dogs will jump up on the bed or jump off the bed, so in order for them to start out on the bed with me, I have to put them up onto the bed. Fudge is no…

I am a proud doodle mama tonight and it is because of Fudge. My niece came over tonight with her husband and two children (5 and under). They have never met Vern and last Christmas were deathly afraid of Fudge. I mean standing on the chair screaming kind of scared. Vern is more cautious than Fudge so I was worried about his reaction. Well, it started out badly with both kids clinging to their parents. We leashed the dogs and just kept talking to the kids. Vern was as afraid of these panicking…

Last night the DH and I decided to watch a movie called "Best In Show". It is an old movie and sort of spoofs dog shows. Anyway, Vern and Fudge were laying on the bed with us and the first time they showed a dog on screen, Vern started barking his mean bark. Well, then Fudge joined in, but she quickly figured out it was Vern being silly and quit. Vern, on the other hand, watched the ENTIRE movie with us emitting low growls whenever a new dog came on the TV. There is a bloodhound in the movie…

The longer we have Vern the more we are discovering he is a night owl. He has things he wants to get done every night and bedtime is not one of them. There are bones to chew, a yard to explore, a cat to bug, and you get the picture. Last night, he finally fell asleep and then my husband came to bed and he woke up ready to go. While I was trying to get him back in the sleepy mode by petting him, I could feel burrs up near his mouth and under his chin. Burrs that did not want to come out, so back…

Today, our mom said she had to clean the house because she is going to Ohio for a shower this weekend. She said she doesn't know why she is bothering since dad is as messy as Vern. Anyway, she told us dad was going to be watching us this weekend and she said, "God help you!" whatever that means. Well, we decided since she had so much to do before Friday that we would help. After she mopped all the floors, Fudge tried to help dry the floor by walking back and forth through all the wet spots. Mom…

Last Wednesday evening, we had a terrible rain storm and our power went out for five hours. During this blackout, we noticed water pouring in from our basement window and the window well filling with water. We actually had about 12 inches of water that we could see, almost like a porthole in a ship, just rising and rising in that window well and several frogs swimming on top. My husband was out in the storm bailing frogs and water most of the evening. He said he…

Vern is now bigger than Fudge. He outweighs her by about 20 pounds. He gets neutered on Wednesday, so I will get his weight then. I know he is heavy, because I pulled something in my back lifting him down from our very high bed. He likes to catapult himself into your arms from the bed and I guess I was not prepared for his dismount. He can't jump onto the bed just yet, but he jumps up excitedly and puts his two front paws on the bed and then dances around until someone can hoist him up. Vern…

My daughter is getting married in one week. For the last two years, I have been planning this wedding. The bride is in school and in her own words, "just wants to show up." My next daughter, I am paying her to elope, because I would like to retire as a wedding planner. What does this have to do with Vern, our 5 month old labradoodle? Well, the last few months have been hectic and what have I been letting slide......hmmn, home cooked meals, biking, exercise, and Vern's training. No where was…

We brought Vern home on 3/27/10 and he is such a good puppy. He is, however, not a watchdog. Today, he spent half the morning growling and barking at his reflection in our fireplace window. If Fudge barks at something out the window, he runs in the opposite direction and only goes to investigate when he thinks the coast is clear. In puppy class, when they allow the puppies to play, he runs all around trying to find someone with treats in his or her pockets. Quite often, I have to wake him up in…

I think I am spending too much time on Doodle Kisses. Last night, in the middle of the night, I was taking Vern and Fudge out and Vern bolted out the door. Luckily, he is a little velcro guy and just stood there, but I could not remember his name. I was yelling "here Banjo". I have also called him Murphy, Norm, and what's his name. I am hoping I am just sleep deprived and not losing my mind.

On Friday, my friend and I left for a 350 mile trip to Rhode Island to pick up my Labradoodle puppy. I was only back from Indiana two days before this trip. We figured we have been in nine states in less than one week. The 350 mile trip took over eleven hours due to the traffic...whew!
Anyway, I picked up our puppy on Saturday and what a cutie he turned out to be. If I can get my daughter to send me the pictures, I will be posting them soon. He was a joy on the ride home, no car…
