Changing my home from blue to green!

I’ll bet you expected a Photoshop tutorial on how to change colors of an image. This has nothing to do with Photoshop or any other editing program. I changed the color of my home from blue to “GREEN” by switching TO SOLAR ELECTRIC GENERATION…

Since I live in an area that has ample sunshine (at least 260 sunny days per year), I generate plenty of solar power for my needs. I would expect that in areas in which sunny days are not so abundant, solar generation might not be as cost…

K&H Thermal Bowl Waterer

I just received this bowl.  It seems like it will work for us.  We keep the water outside because the puggle will drink then pee.  It was 22 degrees last night and there was a thin layer of ice on top.  I removed the ice and added a little warm water it has been OK all day.  The cord is wire wrapped.  Unfortunately the cord is only about 6 foot so we had to add an extension cord.  Seems to work.  4.5 * rating, $22 on Amazon.

The Perils of Traveling!

Lately, I don’t seem to know if I am coming or going.  In the past two weeks, I have been to North Carolina to help Megan and Doc unpack and to Indiana to see my mom.  John was along for the trip to North Carolina, but the Indiana trip was by myself.  The older I get the longer the drive seems and when you are by yourself the drive can be endless.  I used to be able to get up at 3 am and drive the 10 hours without missing a beat, but now my recovery time is longer and I stay with a sister…

Thanksgiving Guest

We will be doggie-sitting CoCo who was a DRCinc foster with us last year. CoCo will be with us over the Thanksgiving Holiday and will be able to renew her acquaintance with Holly and meet our new rescue dogs. CoCo is a darling dog and I am looking forward to shooting some follow-up pictures...…

Spay Day

Kate is nearly 8 months old and was supposed to be spayed a couple of weeks ago but threw up that morning.  She was spayed today.  We worried because 25 years ago we had a dog die during a spay.  She's home and clearly sore.  She threw up bile a little.  We have pain medicine for her but she needs to eat first.  Poor baby.  Seemed to take awhile to come totally out of sedative.  Usually they bounce back quickly.

This picture was Kate from a couple of weeks ago.  She was so…

Rough couple of weeks

There is a yearly two-day adoption event at Rancho Mirage, California in which we have traditionally had excellent results in finding adoptions for rescue dogs.  In fact, since we know that this event is so successful for our adoption efforts that we accept a larger number of dogs as fosters than we can normally handle.

Compounding this, one of our members passed away with no one to care for her three dogs and we accepted those dogs…

Love those Doodles.

I love looking at all the doodles.  They are similar but so unique. They are goofy, love to play, love hugs the most but each one is so individual.  Their color, fur, personality, size are so special.  We have had "pure bred" dogs but there is something special about the anticipation is how will they look.  We have a blue print but the ultimately we wait to see how special they turn out to be.  Love those doodles.

Is It True that Two Dogs Entertain Each Other?

I hear it said all the time that two dogs entertain each other, but that is not the case with Fudge and Vern.  I have never seen my two nudge each other to go play outside or work on a puzzle indoors.  Instead it seems, when they get bored, they might feed off the other’s energy, but mostly they double team me and follow me around like I am in charge of activities.  Most days, I don’t need a clock in the house to know it is getting around to walk time, because they box me in when I am moving…

Amos lost his first tooth!

This past Saturday, November 8, 2014, Amos turned 5 months old! I can't believe we have only had him for 6 weeks. It feels like we've had him forever--not sure if that's a good thing or not? That week he had slept in until my alarm at 6:15am, not once but TWICE--it was a great birthday present for me.

I had been just waiting for the first tooth to fall out. I was expecting one of the front teeth to fall out, as I can tell they have "descended?" I was getting Fitz, our 23…

PUPPY STRANGLES

I am posting this to inform any members of this supposedly rare condition.

We had not encountered Puppy Strangles in our years of working with dogs until just recently. Puppy Strangles is described in Wikipedia, "Puppy strangles is a disease of puppies, also referred to as puppy head gland disease, juvenile pyoderma and juvenile cellulitis." We recently have had…

Sweet Smelling Terrier

I have a bank on my property that is covered in sweet smelling prostrate Rosemary plants.  Rabbits had taken over this large Rosemary patch and were over-running my yard.  They had developed rabbit run tunnels through the Rosemary and Holly couldn't chase them through these tunnels...

The rabbits had free reign, until we got Sasha…

The Third Annual Doodle Trip!

Well, we are back and I think we would all say the trip was a rousing success.  I still don’t know quite how it happened last year, but I was assigned the job of planning this year’s trip and I have no problems admitting Jane did a better job.  I did not want to pick the location and have all the Doodlers show up at the location and give their best imitation of Jeff Probst and say, “we hate this place and we are voting you off the island!”…

Hunter's Progress

I just wanted to share how much progress Hunter has made. This guy is truly the love of my life except for my dh...lol. Hunter has made major improvements when walking on the leash and I definitely owe that success to doodle kisses members you guys are always so helpful and I for one appreciate it so much. For the last 3 days he has almost completely stopped pulling which make our walks something I really look forward too, I just love them. So Hunter is now 6 months 3 weeks old and the… Continue

Update on Cooper

Hello all.   It seems that I am always here when I have medical news to report about Cooper, but somehow I just feel it is important to share his story and if it helps convince others who might be on the fence about getting pet insurance to take that step, then it is worth it.

Cooper had surgery today.  He tore his ACL.  We are now calling him our million dollar dog.   He hasn't really reached that much in expenses, but it seems that way.  :-)   Poor dog has been through so much with…

Dog DNA Testing

We flunked out as a foster for Sasha.  We cannot part with this darling dog and have adopted her...

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

We "think" that she may be a Jack Russel Terrier - Papillion cross.  I am curious as to just how accurate our guess as to her ancestry is and I would like to know for certain (not that it really matters).

There are quite a few…
