Harvey Foster Doodle - what a difference a week makes! (cross posted from DRC site)

It SHOCKS me to realize that I've only been fostering this sweet boy for a week, because he has made SO much progress...progress that I didn't expect to see for several weeks.

Harvey now prances. Words fail me when I see him trotting alongside Callie and they both have their heads and tails raised high, gazing confidently about. He's letting down his guard enough to be a little goofy sometimes. He completely eviscerated a stuffed toy - he was so proud you would have thought…

"doodle and me" vacation PART 2

Duncan and I went to the beach again today. He still wasn't interested in the water but enjoyed digging deep into the sand. Then we came across 1 other dog and IT WAS ANOTHER LABRADOODLE!!!! The dood's name was Seaweed. AWWW. He was jumping waves to fetch a stick. I was hoping Duncan might get a little more interested this time. But he watched comfortably from the sand and decided it's still not for him. So he went back to diggin in the sand and trying to bury a… Continue

Poor Pup

Well it's been forever since I've been on DK...as life has been quite hectic...just needed to get this out and get some DK support.

Last night, my husband was driving my pup (15 months) to PetSmart as Bentley loves to roam the aisles at PetSmart. A car in front of him rearended the car in front of it...and he slammed on the brakes to prevent getting our brand new SUV in an accident as well....well Bentley fell off his seat... (We don't have a riding holster...but are now…

Quints by Surprise - Doodle puppies??

I don't know if anyone else is into watching these reality series family shows on TLC like I am. I watch them all Kate Plus 8, 19 Kids & Counting, the Little Couple, etc. It brings me to this new show called "Quints by Surprise". Quints by Surprise is about the Jones family from Texas. They have a 7ish year old daughter and 22ish month quints (5 Babies! Holy Cow!). Let me just say I cannnot EVEN imagine!!

On the episode, I think it was Monday night, the family has to move…

BDK

I joined Doodle Kisses last Monday, 9/13. I have come to realize that there was never a BDK in my life (Before Doodle Kisses). I am slowly becoming aware that all of my previous connections in life have been meaningless. I have found the place that I belong. I will try to make sure I feed my husband, keep the house somewhat picked up and keep clean underwear in our dresser drawers. Oh how my life has changed. BTW...picking up my little girl this Friday afternoon! SO EXCITED!

Picture of Harvey Foster Doodle

Hi all - Harvey is coming right along and I'll write a longer update this week. Mostly, I just wanted y'all to see how cute he is! He has an incredibly handsome face and is just brimming with sweetness. He's still scared of some things, but is making great progress! He's getting groomed tomorrow, so I'll post new pictures after that!

Hurricane Igor

We are currently being pounded by Hurricane Igor, tons of rain and lots of wind. There has been a lot of flooding and some roads are washed out. Several communities have declared states of emergency. The main highway across Newfoundland is closed due to washout conditions. So far we have not lost power but that is likely to change. We are totally ok where we are and the only problem we have is minor. I always take Quincy out on a leash to potty and today I tried sending him out on a long…

day 1 of my "doodle and me" fall equinox getaway

OK so here i am at this quaint little cottage in Cape May, NJ (the Jersey Shore). Just me and Duncan.
The cottage was advertised and "more than dog friendly" and boy were they right! There were food and water bowls, a dog bed, toys, leashes and a pooper scooper when i arrived. And the house is decorated with the cutest dog accent photos and books. And a lamp that is filled with milkbones!!! (see pic).
It's so lovely and Duncan is enjoying an evening snooze now as the crickets…

Uh oh, Clifford is in T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

Clifford has been an absolute angel since the day he was adopted but apparently he decided to try living on the wild side today while we were away. Latte was at the vet getting spayed (supposedly) so he was completely alone - nothing new during the school year. He spends the day chewing his kong or napping (I assume). Imagine my son's surprise today when he arrived home to find a Netflix DVD and return envelope chewed up and the door to the office nudged open. His new ball was in the office so… Continue

Ring My Bell

So, I finally taught Roxy to ring a bell to go outside. It took several months, but she has caught on with a vengeance. I decided to try the bell because I couldn't figure out her signals. She had been in foster care when I got her, so she'd been shifted around a bit. I figured maybe she didn't know anymore how to communicate her needs. I finally learned to read her particularly gentle signals. She jumps up and gives me hugs when she wants to go out or if I'm seated gets in my lap and basically… Continue

Rain Soaked but Happy

I am a fair weather kinda gal and thus a fair weather trainer...and I almost always HATE rain. Give me clear skies and sunshine, please!

But today I had a friend commit to meeting me out in the park and if SHE was willing to brave wetness (as long as it wasn't pouring) no way was I going to wimp out!

When we got there the rain was bearable...but it quickly became a torrential storm!

Luckily for me, and… Continue

I'll just have a salad, thanks.

My girls are a source of constant amusement. It was a very busy Saturday for our human kids. Today we had soccer and dance (2 soccer games and a dance class) so dinner was quick and simple - hot dogs and raw carrots. Violet and Veruca came barreling into the living room fighting over something. I assumed one of the kids must have dropped a hot dog - they were treating it like fillet. Low and behold.. it was a carrot. Veruca broke off a piece and while she worked on what…

Single doodle female seeking loving family

Hi, I am a single doodle female fresh from the streets of small-town Ohio seeking a loving family. I love romps in the yard, food left on the counter, a good ball to chase and a warm safe home. Evenings curled up by the fireplace with another doodle friend are optional as long as someone is nearby so I can snuggle by your feet. My ideal family will accept that I'm not always perfect (although I'm darn close) and let me love them with all my heart. My name is Latte, give me a call!… Continue

Murph's Going To Boot Camp

I'm on my very last nerve with my Murph, and he's going to "boot camp". To all Murphy's wonderful "fairy godmothers" (yes, that means you, Karen), don't worry....the boot camp is right here at home. I will not be sending him off to some unknown trainer (although I'm not saying I'm opposed to that in some situations). My Murph has been "feeling his oats" for the past couple of weeks...challenging, testing, and just plain "misbehaving". So, I've been reading like crazy (because that's what I do).… Continue

Sad follow up to my friends Golden Retriever with bloat..

A few weeks back some of you may remember that I had posted about my close friends golden retriever, Holly, that had bloat. They actually thought she had completely recovered. In the last week my friend said Holly had been back to her normal, playful, sweet self, and didn't show any evidence of the trauma she had been through.

I am so sad to say that this morning Holly took a very hard turn for the worse and they had to have her put to sleep to stop her suffering. It all happened so… Continue

Meet the newest foster girl - Latte

After a three hour trip (sounds like the start of Gilligan's Island), Latte arrived safe from her stint in the Richland County lockup in Mansfield, Ohio. She settled well on the car ride, after giving her opinion on the route we were taking - she thought she knew a better way but we stayed on the GPS route, much to her dismay.

When she arrived in Michigan she met her foster brother, Clifford. They tolerated each other in the front yard and then moved to the back to play chase.… Continue

CharlieMarley, StairMaster!!

Last night, CharlieMarley again refused my invitation to come upstairs to bed. He whined a bit at the foot of the stairs.

I went up to get ready for bed. Then I heard more whining...louder...closer.

He was 3 steps from the top! He came the rest of the way and got to sleep on the bed. He was soo good. All night.

He does the stairs like a pro now. Yay CharlieMarley!…

Having Puppy Deja Vu

We have decided to add another doodle to our family and Bella will be arriving in 2 weeks from today. I find myself feeling and doing some very familiar things and thinking that “ I have been here before”. I am pulling out all the “Puppy Training” books I read so diligently just 2 years ago, waiting anxiously for any post or picture update from our fantastic breeder, (Yes, same one again, of…
