The Adventures of Rua

Well, Rua decided that she was going to climb the stairs yesterday. DH didn't think that would happen yet, but, where there is a well, there is a way. It is really cute watching her short little legs take her from stair to stair. The top stair (bringing her to the main level of a ranch) is wood, so she slipped and slided just a bit.

Last night she went to her crate at around 10PM for the night...not a peep out of her when she went down (tired her out first). I got up at 5AM,…

My World Is Getting Rocked???

Hi friends, Whopper here. I overheard my mom telling someone today that my world is about to get rocked...I didn't quite understand what she meant and didn't think it could be that bad since I sometimes play in some cool rocky areas. I decided to go with the flow until I heard the words that so many of you have warned the rest of us about.

I'm getting a little BROTHER!

My mom says he is coming on Friday from Texas and I'm not sure where that is but I guess it…

Foster Dog Blog #5 - My final chapter, but the story continues

ONE week ago today Gus left for his new home. I tried to blog about it then, but words just weren’t there; only an emptiness inside me and a quietness in our home. We were amazed at how much of a presence Gus was in our family. But mixed with our loss was a joy to have met Gus’s new family and to be able to feel so good about where he is going.

He has a ten-year old boy to play with and learn with. Every boy should have a dog, and Gus was the…

Vern and Fudge at the Movies!

Last night the DH and I decided to watch a movie called "Best In Show". It is an old movie and sort of spoofs dog shows. Anyway, Vern and Fudge were laying on the bed with us and the first time they showed a dog on screen, Vern started barking his mean bark. Well, then Fudge joined in, but she quickly figured out it was Vern being silly and quit. Vern, on the other hand, watched the ENTIRE movie with us emitting low growls whenever a new dog came on the TV. There is a bloodhound in the movie… Continue

I survived a week with my foster sister

Hey everyone, I made it through more than a week with my foster sister Latte. I'm trying to teach her how to play my favorite game but she just gets in the way. She does know how to play chase though - I heard someone call that fox and hound and she is the hound and I'm the fox cuz I run faster than her. Sometimes she tricks me and takes a short cut but I'm getting wise to her. She coughs a lot and Dad says we should have called her Coffee instead of Latte - she's taking medicine to get better,… Continue

The Nerd

Today I did a practice of sorts for Darwin's Halloween costume. I parted his hair down the center and gelled it but his hair is so curly it didn't really stay slicked down. I was really worried he would be uncomfortable when I put the stuff on him because I want him to wear it all night on Halloween. Luckily, he didn't mind the costume except for the glasses (not sure how to keep those on him) so it was at least possible to get some photos. It wasn't easy though! He made sure of that, ha ha. He… Continue

Rua's First Adventure!

After much anticipation, we FINALLY picked Rua up yesterday. We arrived at our breeder, Whispering Pines Kennel in Hull IA around 3:30pm (2-3/4 hour drive from Omaha). She was in their house and ready for us (freshly bathed and smelling puppy fresh). I brought a small towel to rub over Rua's puppy mommy, Mary Ann, and her littermates, so we took care of that before we hit the road.

After lot's of reading, I decided I would start out by sitting in the backseat with her while my…

Learning to be a dog...

Yesterday F Scott took his first real walk on a leash. I just took Scott and Harlow (I think he would have been traumatized by the beagles’ constant stops to mark). I used the brace lead so Scott would be close to Harlow. At first he wasn’t too sure about the leash, but since Harlow seemed to be enjoying herself Scott walked along beside her. We just did a walk around our block. A long the way we met…

MY GOOD BOY

Jackdoodle's been a little neglected lately. It's been raining a lot, so our walks are shorter, and many days we can't play ball in the yard. I've been spending a lot of time on the phone and computer, too; lots of rescue doodles in need of homes, and well, Jackdoodle has a home. So he doesn't get much attention some days. But he never acts out, or gets destructive. He just waits until I have a little time to play with…

Hurricane Igor Update

This is just one of the many road washouts that happened

on Tuesday when Hurricane Igor tore through the eastern portion of Newfoundland, there was major flooding and wind damage. Three days later and many roads are washed outt leaving many communities totally isolated. Many people are still without electricity and running water. For two days the main highway was closed due to a 60 ft wide washout. The damage and devastation is so wide spread that…

Oy, Such A Day

My day so far? Funny you should ask. (I know, you didn't ask, but you're gonna hear about it anyway because I don't have anyone else to vent to who'd understand):

1. We awaken to a back yard filled with water and the pool down about 7 inches. At some point during the night, the top of the pool filter cracked and apparently we had fountains of water shooting out to rival those at the Bellagio. Turns out the filter just went off warranty THREE MONTHS ago, and the company is unwilling to… Continue

Annual Vet Check Up

Today Abel went for his annual vet check up/vaccines. Last time he had been to the vet he had only been four months so a lot has changed. We had a pool going around for people to guess Abel's weight. The guesses ranged from 60 - 89 pounds. The real weight? 66 pounds! I had guessed 72. I knew he couldn't be terriblly heavy because I was on the one who had to lift him on the vet table.

All is good. His maloclusion is all gone and his teeth line up perfectly :) The only problem is that…

Cheap Potty Bells $10 including S&H

The trainer I use sells "Piddle Bells" she makes and only charges $10 a set - including shipping and handling, an instruction sheet on how to use and her card for "training support" if you have questions. For other non-crafty people like myself it's a nice option for a bell set that isn't $20. You can request colors and she will do her best to find a ribbon that is durable enough to be on the bells and meets your color preferences. I didn't post until I got mine, I wanted…

Update on Bentley

First of all, thank you so much for all of the support on our last post regarding our accident. It brought me to tears to see all the support, and had my DH amazed at the outpouring of prayers, etc for us. You all truly have helped us through this.

Bentley had his surgery on Wednesday morning. The surgeon called us afterwards and told us the surgery went perfect and Bentley was just waking up from the anesthesia..and kinda funny- Bentley was wagging his tail before he even woke… Continue

Justin Bieber wishes he had my hair cut.

The past couple of weeks have been slow.

Mom hasn't been able to take me to the Dog Park. And we've only been on one walk, which makes me sad. Lots of car rides, though. I think Mom tries to make up for the no Dogy Park and no walks.

Mom says sometimes moms get busy, but that it doesn't mean they don't love their doodles. She works a lot, with that little computer in her lap. When I come over to put my head in her lap, she rubs my head and apologizes. She says she… Continue

Little friends

The door bell rang and it was the 7 year old from next door wanton to know if Teddy could come out and play. Teddy has become the neighbors kids dog too. Teddy just loves them as much as they love him. So glad we have kids so close, because ours are all grown. I wondered if all goldendoodles love children?p

F. Scottie - the first week...

It has been a full week since Scottie has been fostered with us. He doesn’t have the self-confidence of his big brother Harvey, but he has come a long way in a week. Amazingly, he has had only 1 accident in the house and that was the morning after he arrived. He hadn’t figured out the stair-thingy yet and was afraid to go down the stairs. But fear of the stairs is ancient history (at least in a dog’s…
