Well, Rua decided that she was going to climb the stairs yesterday. DH didn't think that would happen yet, but, where there is a well, there is a way. It is really cute watching her short little legs take her from stair to stair. The top stair (bringing her to the main level of a ranch) is wood, so she slipped and slided just a bit.
Last night she went to her crate at around 10PM for the night...not a peep out of her when she went down (tired her out first). I got up at 5AM,…

Hi friends, Whopper here. I overheard my mom telling someone today that my world is about to get rocked...I didn't quite understand what she meant and didn't think it could be that bad since I sometimes play in some cool rocky areas. I decided to go with the flow until I heard the words that so many of you have warned the rest of us about.
I'm getting a little BROTHER!
My mom says he is coming on Friday from Texas and I'm not sure where that is but I guess it…

ONE week ago today Gus left for his new home. I tried to blog about it then, but words just weren’t there; only an emptiness inside me and a quietness in our home. We were amazed at how much of a presence Gus was in our family. But mixed with our loss was a joy to have met Gus’s new family and to be able to feel so good about where he is going.
He has a ten-year old boy to play with and learn with. Every boy should have a dog, and Gus was the…

After much anticipation, we FINALLY picked Rua up yesterday. We arrived at our breeder, Whispering Pines Kennel in Hull IA around 3:30pm (2-3/4 hour drive from Omaha). She was in their house and ready for us (freshly bathed and smelling puppy fresh). I brought a small towel to rub over Rua's puppy mommy, Mary Ann, and her littermates, so we took care of that before we hit the road.
After lot's of reading, I decided I would start out by sitting in the backseat with her while my…

Yesterday F Scott took his first real walk on a leash. I just took Scott and Harlow (I think he would have been traumatized by the beagles’ constant stops to mark). I used the brace lead so Scott would be close to Harlow. At first he wasn’t too sure about the leash, but since Harlow seemed to be enjoying herself Scott walked along beside her. We just did a walk around our block. A long the way we met…

Jackdoodle's been a little neglected lately. It's been raining a lot, so our walks are shorter, and many days we can't play ball in the yard. I've been spending a lot of time on the phone and computer, too; lots of rescue doodles in need of homes, and well, Jackdoodle has a home. So he doesn't get much attention some days. But he never acts out, or gets destructive. He just waits until I have a little time to play with…

This is just one of the many road washouts that happened
on Tuesday when Hurricane Igor tore through the eastern portion of Newfoundland, there was major flooding and wind damage. Three days later and many roads are washed outt leaving many communities totally isolated. Many people are still without electricity and running water. For two days the main highway was closed due to a 60 ft wide washout. The damage and devastation is so wide spread that…

Today Abel went for his annual vet check up/vaccines. Last time he had been to the vet he had only been four months so a lot has changed. We had a pool going around for people to guess Abel's weight. The guesses ranged from 60 - 89 pounds. The real weight? 66 pounds! I had guessed 72. I knew he couldn't be terriblly heavy because I was on the one who had to lift him on the vet table.
All is good. His maloclusion is all gone and his teeth line up perfectly :) The only problem is that…

It has been a full week since Scottie has been fostered with us. He doesn’t have the self-confidence of his big brother Harvey, but he has come a long way in a week. Amazingly, he has had only 1 accident in the house and that was the morning after he arrived. He hadn’t figured out the stair-thingy yet and was afraid to go down the stairs. But fear of the stairs is ancient history (at least in a dog’s…
