I had quite the experience last Tuesday. My Daisy has had a reputation for getting into things she's not supposed to. I had posted not too far back how she literally ate 1/2 of my sandal and we had a little fun with "who done it" when I didn't know if it was Hunter or Daisy.
Well, last week, I came home and there was a huge mess all over the living room. I had accidently left the storage bin with my hair accessories open. There were scrunchies, hair ties, and bits and pieces of a…

Holly barks at strangers entering our property; until we let her know that the strangers are welcome. However, her bark has always just been sort of a warning. It is simply a "Here I am and this is my house!" bark. Enough to warn off strangers but, certainly not ferocious.
Last night after midnight, Holly perceived something or someone on or near our property and she reacted quite differently. Her bark was not a warning but, an "I want to tear your head off!" bark; combined…

We all know that Doodles are among the best breeds of dogs. And we all know that the American Kennel Club considers our Doodles as "mixed breeds". However, the AKC allows some mixed breeds in selected competitions and among these are agility and obedience.

Even though the AKC relaxed its "purebred only" criteria when its…

At the end of the last summer,we took a short trip to Ohiopyle state park with Charlie and Butter - our old Chow Chow - now 15 1/2 years old. I did not think he would make it back there this year again, but there he was!! He even went in the water this year...
I love you Butter. Stick around for few more years, please?

We are co-owners of Sara Marie who is the very first female Maltese ever to achieve an American Kennel Club (AKC) Master Agility Championship. She is now known as Master Agility Champion Jule's Catch Me If You Can - of course, she's still Sara Marie to us. We don't want her to get a big head about this. It's bad enough with us having a big heads.…

Tara has been, from the beginning, a very sensitive girl when it comes to grooming. I started brushing her when she was tiny but it never went well. She squirmed and fought me and I had to play her into exhaustion so I could brush her after she fell asleep. We were both miserable and I kept thinking about how many years ahead we were facing as this issue loomed over us. Even after she started visiting the groomer it didn't improve. But at least I wasn't laying awake at night in tears…

Dexter was born here but is my Aunt's dog. I've blogged about him a few times... (Pictures of his whole litter climbing on my little cousin and then a couple months later the mud mess in my kitchen.)
So, Dexter use to come here 3x's a week for doggie daycare. Now that he is a big boy he can be trusted home alone so stays home on the days my aunt works. Today she asked if he could come and play. It's been lots of fun to have him again!
When he was a puppy he use…

Last Wednesday evening, we had a terrible rain storm and our power went out for five hours. During this blackout, we noticed water pouring in from our basement window and the window well filling with water. We actually had about 12 inches of water that we could see, almost like a porthole in a ship, just rising and rising in that window well and several frogs swimming on top. My husband was out in the storm bailing frogs and water most of the evening. He said he…

Bixby Foster Doodle is leaving today on the first leg of his journey to his forever home. He will be transported to New England, where Liz Syring from the DRC will be fostering him for about 10 days until his wonderful new forever family comes back from vacation. The reason for this is two-fold...first - Bixby is so super attached to me and to Callie that we worried about the bond continuing to strengthen over time. Then, I loved having him around so much that I worried less about that (yes,…

I have been doing so well with my loose leash walking that mom said it was time to “up the ante.” You see I think it is my personal, civic responsibility to meet and greet every man, woman, child and dog that I pass. I have done a lot of work on this, but still have a hard time resisting children and dogs. Mom says this is bad manners, but I don’t understand how being friendly is…

A few weeks ago, I had Callie's portrait professionally taken (a local pet photographer had a fundraiser and reduced her cost greatly and had you bring in a large bag of dog food for the Atlanta Humane Society). Today Callie is the pet of the day on her blog! I am posting this so you can see how cute the photos came out!! Callie was a very good girl (once we got the treat thing worked out - the photographer's dog handler was using peanut butter treats. I'm allergic peanuts, so Callie just…

Yesterday afternoon I was taking the dogs on their daily afternoon walk. It was HOT, I was tired and we were walking along the start of our greenway, which is adjacent to a very busy road. Two lanes, but still very busy. Peri's collar just came unsnapped - I had the leash and collar in my hand. 5 seconds felt like 5 minutes. My heart was about to leap out of my chest.
I couldn't think of what to do so I just said "Peri WAIT". (why not SIT??) She just stood there…

Whew! We got the good word from the vet today... No knee surgery for Coco.
Two weeks ago on a Saturday it was pouring down rain and poor Coco had to go "do her business". When she came running back inside she slipped on a wet porch step and bumped her left knee on the step (of course this was the foot I had yet to trim). She came in the house limping. The next Monday she was still limping so off to the vet we went. X-Rays revealed she has a pulled ligament and needs to stay…
