I used to wonder what people were talking about when they asked me if Gingy matted? Matted? I only need to brush him maybe once a week! Never any mats, never any problems. Until his big boy fur came in! Wow was I unprepared for that! In a matter of a week, the poor thing had a major matting problem. So on-line I went and found DoodleKisses. I found some very helpful information on how to brush him, the proper brushes and combs that I need and a recommendation to use Cowboy Magic. I wasn't able…

We just had two Direct TV technicians come to our house to troubleshoot our TV picture, they worked until well after dark. We kept Holly and her Maltese buddies in my office so that they wouldn't bother the repair guys and to enable the techs to leave the bedroom door open (we live in Southern California and it isn't cold) so they easily could walk in and out of the house.
Holly was O.K. in the office until a technician placed a ladder outside the bay window of the office and climbed…

Someone had suggested I try giving Rosco diluted broth to encourage him to drink more earlier in the day.
Today after I had used up a can of tuna for me and Clark...I had an idea! Since there was a smidgen of tuna left in the can (just enough to make a dog want to lick out the can) I rinsed the can into a doggy water bowl and then added more water and after some re-assurance that YES the tuna water was for HIM... Rosco drank that up with glee!
So tomorrow I will buy some…

Normally I walk Gingy when it's dark...either before the kids are up in the morning, or after they are in bed at night. My husband was on vacation over the Holidays so I got to sleep in (yeah!) and walk the dog during daylight hours. The 1st time, I thought there was something wrong with us and kept checking to see what everyone was staring at. I don't know why it took me so long to figure out it was Gingy they were staring at. There were kids and adults with their faces pressed against the…

I started cutting off Rosco's water supply at 7pm (give or take 10-15 min) 4 days ago:
Day 1 (New Year's Eve) -- last potty break at midnight -- no potty in the middle of the night -- success!
Day 2 -- last potty break around 10pm -- He woke us up in the middle of the night for potty -- fail!
Day 3 -- last potty break...10-11? -- We were up VERY late and when something else woke him up we sent him out so don't know if he would have gotten up or…

Holly graduated from Puppy Obedience Training at about six months. She learned all the basic commands, sit, down, come and stay (well - maybe not so great at staying). She also learned to walk on a loose lead.
However, Judy and I decided that Holly was not really ready for serious training because her attention span was not long enough. We decided, that since she was a pretty darn well behaved dog due to the puppy training; we would wait until her first birthday before we did any…

Holly is an extremely intelligent dog and trains very easily. However, she takes no interest in fetching. She will not fetch a ball; even when her best buddy (Shadow, our daughter's Labrador who has a fetch fetish) runs after the ball for hours to fetch.
I'd like Holly to fetch since it would give her a lot of structured exercise. Actually, it is not really a big deal that she doesn't fetch because she runs all over our one-acre fenced property. I probably would like her to fetch…

I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures of my little loved ones and I don't have the talent, time or patience to do normal scrapbooking. Does anyone out there have a free (preferably simple to use) online scrapbooking site? I really want to record my memories of my pups...

Oliver is officially 4 months old today! Using the doodle equation, he should be ~66-76lbs. as an adult! He also graduates from puppy class next week!
I've been trying to teach Oliver to play fetch with a frisbee since he was about 8 weeks old. However, when he was that young it was nothing more than a chew toy to him...and fetch? No way. He'd much rather keep it to himself thankyouverymuch. He'd carry it around the house with him....but it was only today that he actually brought it…

Lots of discussions about rescuing Doodles and in time, I will be doing this. But I want Hudson (almost 7 months old) to get the time he needs with me and to get the training that he needs to be a great dog - in my opinion he already is, but I've owned dogs all my life and know the difference between the dog that is good at home and the one that is great out in public AND when visitors come over. Anyway, I think he deserves me time for a while yet. However, my cat of 22 years passed away about…

I had the occasion to be waiting with Holly outside a local supermarket while Judy, my wife, did some last minute 2008 purchases. As I waited, I reflected on how wonderful it is to have a Doodle and to have one like Holly in particular.
Virtually every person who entered or left the store either came over and petted Holly or smiled at her as they passed us. She has a seemingly magical quality about her that brings the same smiles to stranger's faces as she brings to our…

Today was Sophie's follow up apointment with the Opthamologist. The Dr. said that everthing looks good. he said that the redness in her eyes will come and go for about another month but should be completly gone in about a month or so. The scars that are slightly visible will fade. She only needs one type of eye drop twice a day instead of two different ones 4xper day.. which is soooo nice. Great news is that I can bring her around other dogs and she is free to play however she chooses.…

This is what I found when I came home today:
PINE NEEDLES from our tree!!! I assume it was Thule as usual. They are sooo poky...how could they feel good to munch on?
That was mess #1
Later tonight I smelled something ghastly! Was it the pizza? No way...it smelled too much like dog butt
Clark lifted Cass' tail and took a wiff...nope not Cass.
I reached for Rosco's tail and the underside of his tail…

After catching yet another stray dog near my house(AGAIN) a couple of days ago, Clark suggested that I get myself a catch pole ;-)
What do you think? Can you see me running around the neighborhood with one of these???
The local dog catcher was in line ahead of me at the cafeteria today... I gave him my number and he's going to find a catalog for me! tee hee hee…

With next weeks slide show "Home", I went through my old pictures to find the early ones of Jordan. Oh! what fun it was! She was so little. I have some videos, we were watching them this is what I found out...
1: Jordan was smaller than my cats
2: Payton was really good to her
3: I am so glad I got rid of the flowing water dish..Jordan went to town playing with the water.
4: Jordan WAS a nipper! I have the video. I had completely forgotten she would nip.
5:The first…

Some of you already know this but….
I’m going to try and be brief here. Stella the Wonder dog ate 5 pieces of gum over the Christmas vacation. No big deal right? Well, Xylitol is an ingredient in most sugarless gum now and it can kill your dog if it’s ingested. The new Ice Breakers, Ice Cubes made by the Hershey Co. has some of the highest levels of Xylitol out there. But, it is in all sorts of “sugarless” products. However, one of them, Wrigley’s new “5” gum does NOT contain…

Hello friends! This is a long one....
I sit here with a ball of fluff lying next to me. I apologize for not writing sooner. It has been a busy three weeks for us.
It's a wonderful life for Sophie girl! Seven weeks ago Don and I brought home Sophie to foster. As many of you know, her surgery was December 1st. the surgery was a success (as of her last appointment when they allowed the cone to come off). We quickly fell in love with her and became "failed foster parents".…
